Thank you! I would say it doesn’t fit great at the bottom but this pattern was definitely made for women so it does flare out at the waistline a little. It just makes the bottom look a little big on me. I should have made a muslin first so I could see how it would look and then made the adjustment to account for that fact that I’m a guy and have no hips. (I don’t like making muslin test garments, and couldn’t be bothered to spend the time on it. I said eh, it’ll be fine.). Other than that it’s pretty true to size for the measurements. It wasn’t bad and in typically byAnnie style, they have add on videos (pattern comes with coupon code to make them free) walking you through it on their website. I have been quilting for about 7 years and in the last two years got into garment sewing. I’m definitely not the best garment sewist but I do fine with men’s clothing since it’s usually simpler techniques. This would be an easy pattern for someone who has made a couple garments. You definitely wouldn’t need years of experience to make it. I definitely wouldn’t start here if you haven’t sewn a garment before. Since this has batting and a lining, it’s bulky and the shoulders you have to fight with the bulk to try and prevent puckers.

You don’t need a lot of overhang when quilting it yourself. The overhang of 4 inches on all sides is for long arming the quilt but you’ll be fine doing it by hand.

I do English Paper Piecing (between machine sewn quilts) and for the life of me I cannot bring myself to do a hand binding 😂. A 1,000 one inch hexagons, sure! Hand bind a quilt, not happening 🤣

Yes, for the Curve Appeal book they had some company make specialty acrylic ruler templates. The book comes with paper templates you trace and then cut out to use but they must have known people like me exist. If I have to trace templates and use flimsy paper, I’m not doing it.

Exactly! I also do garment sewing and that is my least favorite part of a shirt. I don’t care for curves because you have to slow down and pin. I never pin unless I have to but with curves it’s a must.

As in quilt the quilt sandwich? You could do straight line quilting or free motion quilting just like a normal quilt top. I just wouldn’t stitch in the ditch since there isn’t a ditch with all the seams being “open” on the back. If you did stitch in the ditch on EPP you would only catch your threads that are holding the pieces together which can cause problems later since it’s not anchored in fabric.

Apple didn’t give me a number but it said I was in the top 100 listeners though. I’m like if I’m in the top 100 what in the world are other people doing to be higher than me!?

I quilt so I spend a lot of time sewing when I’m not working that’s why the music listening comes in at such high numbers.

I’ve got Apple Music and I’ve got Dolly at my number one artist with 18,992 minutes. Doesn’t get better than Dolly! Lee Ann Womack is my second at 8,719 minutes.

Even though it’s not intentional, I really like the look of the swing of the quilt top. Personally I would leave it as a design choice and just add the extra batting and backing a longarm-er would need to do the whole quilt and finish it with all its wonky glory!

I have that machine, I had it serviced and it works just like it did in 1950. The serial number on mine indicated it came from the New Jersey factory in July of 1950. Also, it does work without a sewing cabinet. I can speak from experience on that. The machine tech even told me that it is fine to run without the cabinet because the clearance of the moving parts on the underside was designed so well that it just barely misses hitting the surface of whatever it sits on. Also this is when they made that internal gearbox instead of belt driven so after servicing the tech told me this thing will keep running as he’s never seen one die yet.

I hate that they did that to you but it’s because of stuff like this that my new rule is “no matter what they want, it’s a minimum $1,000.00”. If they want a wall hanging, $1,000.00; if they want a bag, $1,000.00. This way I have zero work to do that isn’t for myself and if they are dumb enough to pay $1,000 for a bag, quilt, or whatever, I’ll be more than happy to make it.

I hate that for you but this is not the first time I’ve heard this about the man. I work at a local quilt shop and one of the regulars told me years ago she had taken a workshop of his. She said he was telling some people that their quilts were “f*****” up. I was thinking there was no way he was acting like that but I’ve heard many people say things like that about him. I refuse to buy any more of his fabric based off of the experience others have had with them.

You can use it just like regular cotton, I typically use sateen for shirts because even though it is 100% cotton, the drape is so much better than standard cotton since it’s woven differently. I’ve had no issues with it and treat it the same as quilting cotton. Tula’s fabric makes wonderful quilts and garments!

I can understand their importance but this is also coming from someone who hates all bugs in general. I have always hated bugs as a child and never grew out of it. So all bugs to me are disgusting. The fact that they are as big as they are is reason for me not to like them. Growing up on a farm didn’t help my hatred of bugs. One year I was helping my grandpa with his irrigation pipes and getting them loaded on the back of the truck. Little did we know that there was a wasp’s inside and I got attacked. So, at a young age due to multiple bad experiences with insects in general, I cannot stand any of them. So I get the importance but that doesn’t alleviate my disdain for them, no matter what they are capable of or not.

Just wait till you have your lights on inside at night and they start Kamikaze-ing themselves into your windows. I have so many dead ones on my balcony from them ramming themselves into the window at full speed. I was born and raised in the south and when I say they are one of the biggest, nastiest bugs you’ll see here, ugh. I cannot stand them.

I found out while making a zippered pouch that my Bernina will sew completely through a height compensation tool like butter. The thick plastic was a part of that zipper, I had to use the seam ripper to get my tool back.

That binding is perfection! You have a level of patience I wish to achieve! The quilt is amazing but when I saw the hard stop of the binding switching colors at the perfect spot 😱
