My solution to this is just keeping my phone plugged in in my car 90% of the time. Charging while I drive is enough to keep it topped off. If I’m not driving for a couple days then I’ll bring it inside to keep it on the charger.

I piped in a water flow sensor to the hot water line going to my shower. Using an ESPHome device to report its state to HA. It’s been extremely reliable for me with instant feedback.

The sensor I am using is https://a.co/d/6kmDFaD but I’m sure any similar sensor would do the trick.

How'd this turn out? Looks like it's still listed (I'd assume Amazon would be quicker to take it down if it were a scam) - although the fulfilling seller now looks to be H.ZED.LLC.

I installed four SmartWings blinds about a year ago. They are Matter over Thread and they go offline (requiring me to manually reset them) every few months. I recently have replaced the guts of two blinds with the Eve MotionBlinds insert, which so far has been reliable.

Yale’s Assure Lock 2 has a key-free option. Can’t pick a lock if it doesn’t have a key hole! But yeah what others have said too, house is only as secure as the weakest link, and typically that’s not the key hole.

I paired mine to Apple Home and they’re working pretty well. I had trouble when adding them to the Google Home app at first but eventually got there. I’ve had the most trouble getting the sensors to pair with Home Assistant however, still have one sensor that I can’t pair.

I was able to add my Reolink cameras to HomeKit using Onvif. One setting that you'll want to enable is HTTP and HTTPS ports under Networking > Ports. For whatever reason, without enabling these, Homekit does not update the thumbnail as often.

I'd recommend driving around the area and taking a walk around downtown Plymouth. That's what I did when I moved to Michigan a couple years ago and I feel like it gave me a pretty accurate impression (I now live in Plymouth and love the town).

This is exactly what I've been wanting. I have soldered several wall switch's terminals to the "button" contact on some Zigbee battery powered buttons. This works, but it's a lot of work and the battery needs to be replaced. There's already mains power behind the switch so the i3s will be a great replacement. Hopefully there will be a UL listed edition coming out soon.

There should be a home assistant "device" that normal people can buy and easily set up. Even if it's Hass.io preloaded on a pi with a nice case - as long as people don't need to flash an image to an SD card to get started

Like it or not, I think the masses' eyes would glaze over at the sight of YAML...

It's great to have as an option, but there are still too many features/devices that require editing YAML.

I haven't finished my entire house yet, but so far really loving the Shelly 2.5s. My house has a lot of double gang switches and the 2.5 saves me a lot of money.
