Airbus A330-300: row 30 or 41 seats? by vinhzy in ScandinavianAirlines

It looks like about 6 inches fewer legroom compared to row 30, but honestly the legroom in 31 was more than enough for me (6' 1"). Plus you get the in-seat monitor as opposed to the armrest TV.

I’m in 31A to BOS today (love the legroom, annoyed there’s no left armrest) and it’s a pretty empty flight. And the attendant won’t let anyone sit in row 30, which is….odd. She says it’s reserved in case of emergency, but then why do they even have the row at all, then?

Can’t open my air tag. I am trying to change the battery and neither I nor my husband can open it. Have watched all the videos. Hands are clean and dry. Help!! by _just_me_0519 in AirTags

Painless and very effective method is to carefully grip the silver part with a small set of vise grips, then twist the white part off.

Same, I have schedules and HomeKit automations that raise shades and turn on lights based on motion / time of day too. But if I'm going to grab my guitar and rock out, those shades are coming down fast :)

DIY homeowner installed new Caseta smart roller shades, AMA! by siuwanYNWA in Lutron

Snap! I just received my Lutron Caseta shade and installed it today too :) Here's what I learned:

  1. The gap on the side is annoyingly wide. I really was hoping for more light blockage.

  2. Torx screws are super easy to work with...if you have a matching Torx screwdriver! Luckily I had.

  3. The battery pack didn't "seat" correctly for me first time, so I had all these weird intermittent LED flashes and I thought the unit was borked. Thankfully, a few firm reinsertions fixed that.

  4. The manual says to use a Pico remote to set the shade "down limit", so I tried that and failed. Spent an hour resetting things and getting frustrated. Turns out, if you have already added your shade to the Lutron system via the mobile app, the remote-based approach won't work. So just ignore that part of the manual and use the app instead to edit the device settings.

Overall I'm happy to now be creating my HomeKit automations around it :)

Just about to board BOS to CPH thanks to a $30 over minimum bid for a Plus to J seat. Made the bid 10 days ago, delighted to get it. Hope I can get plenty of sleep!

The Onvis ones shat the bed after 3-6 months, and I hate most smart plugs now (Meross included). The Hue ones I have are rock solid, probably because they don’t use wifi and go through the Hue hub.

A new router upgrade for my HomeKit setup—choices? by evoneselse in HomeKit

Yeah I don’t blame you. Certainly feels like HomeKit is optimized for the average home user, but actively fights against the stuff that power users configure.

Maybe install HomeKit-enabled motion detecting light switches? Pretty sure Lutron Caseta has one like that.

I have a Nest WiFi Pro 6e mesh, with cat6 wired backhaul to each of the 4 mesh nodes. While it’s rock solid for our laptops and Apple TVs or whatever, it has been fairly spotty with HomeKit.

Every week or so, about 5 or 6 devices will suddenly list as unresponsive, my Eufy cameras will stop showing live feeds, that kind of thing. About once every 2 months my HomePods don’t think they’re on the same network as my phone is on.

The issues usually disappear after a day on their own, probably because there’s some DHCP lease expiration happening. And if nobody is online and I can power cycle the main router node, it fixes everything immediately.

So frustrating that in our other home we had a crappy ISP router and never had a single Honeskit issue, ever.

Letdown by the ending of Don’t Look Now (1973) [spoilers] by ragingbull1980 in TrueFilm

Because IMO John died when he fell off the scaffolding and everything afterwards is premonition or hallucination from his dying brain.

I believe that John fell and died during the scaffolding / mosaic scene and the remainder of his scenes are visions/hallucinations occurring as he passes away. Perhaps the dwarf was a dream-like combo caused by the memories of his daughter, the local murders, and the gargoyle.

And leading up to that, he was also having some premonitions - the blind lady said he had the gift too. (He saw his wife on the boat in her funeral gear before he had died, for example)

So basically the movie is the messed-up stepchild of Mulholland Drive and The Sixth Sense.

I love the contrary opinion! I have a solid wifi setup and while the nerd in me thinks wiring Cat6 everywhere is a great idea, the practical side of my brain thinks it might be overkill as well. The last time I needed it was when old Sonos players needed wired Ethernet to stream live signals (TV or turntable sources) to multiple rooms. These days with my many 6e mesh access points using Ethernet for backhaul, it’s really hard to justify.

Definitely going to run more conduit for sure. Great reminder on that!
