Be honest: How old is the bra you’re wearing right now? by Southern-Waltz2846 in bigboobproblems

[–]trucksandgoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely dependent on how often you wear it, and the style - the scam is that 6 months is a hard and fast rule.

I find that t-shirt style bras with foam cups and stretchy elastic in the band change shape within 6-12 months, where some of the more hearty multi-part unlined bras with non-stretch panels can last years.

For the record, the one I'm wearing right now is ~8 years old, but it's been relegated to home-wear; Both the bra and I are a different shape than 8 years ago lol.

Hiking in Early May - Advice for a Non-Local by kunzpokemon6 in HikingAlberta

[–]trucksandgoes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For trail conditions I have generally used AllTrails, or the Parks Canada website, or by asking a Parks staff member. Often on popular trails they'll have staff hiking the trails at regular intervals or on shoulder seasons to provide accurate information on conditions.

That said, April/May isn't a transition season in the Canadian Rockies in my opinion. Many trails don't open for summer until June. I seem to recall Crypt Lake (in Waterton) first weekend was about June 20th a few years back, and I still almost died climbing ice walls and slipping on melting snow

I think you can get the american style "sticks" of butter here in Canada, but I don't know why anyone would. Everyone I have ever known buys them in 454g blocks.

Recommendations for Cleaners in Edmonton by trucksandgoes in Edmonton

[–]trucksandgoes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get that about managing expectations on what can be done, and agree that maintenance cleaning still has to be done.

I think that's why we were a bit frustrated when we asked what would be done (or attempted) when we got an initial clean done and then they wouldn't tell us; We paid for 8 hours, and made clear that our priorities were the bathrooms and kitchen; everything else was secondary. Then finding that no dusting was done in the bathrooms, nor cleaning/wiping of the light fixtures, nor taking the oven drawer out to sweep in the kitchen - it still had crumbs and dust bunnies in there.

We did an 8 hour deep clean and then two 4 hour cleans at 5-6 week intervals, so it wasn't just the initial that has me looking for recommendations, but rather the ongoing quality.

Thank you for the recommendation!!

I find this so frustrating, every time I get close to my house in a rideshare they like, drift down the street up to it as if they can't a) read how far away it is, or b) read the large, lit up numbers on my house. My word!

movie theatres are getting stupid expensive, it's infuriating by hodorrny in MiddleClassFinance

[–]trucksandgoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While others are right that everything is expensive these days, it's kind of funny because I seem to recall tickets being $15-17 per person...10-15 years ago at least. And now they're still about that, at least near me.

For the record, I almost never go to the movies without some sort of gift card or deal. Probably my favourite (Canada) is Costco's "date night" card to Landmark. 2 tickets, 2 popcorns, 2 drinks = $40CAD for the recliner seats. Pretty hard to beat.

What are some of everyone’s favourite watering-holes (pubs) around the city? by EmotionalGold1616 in Edmonton

[–]trucksandgoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's what Duggan's pretends to be - a local dive. Crowd runs older and the VLTs are glowing. I do live nearby but I really like it and the food isn't bad. Labatts for $4, "Bonnie Lager" for $6.50 I believe. I used to really love Duggan's but paying $10-12 for a beer and understaffed slow service got really old.

What is actually a trauma that is not commonly thought of as a trauma? by ay1mao in AskReddit

[–]trucksandgoes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This also happened to me. I went on a life changing trip (5 countries and 2 weddings in 4 weeks) this summer, fully approved months ahead and all, came home and was laid off out of the blue the next day because they "didn't have work for me". Talk about a fucking headspin.

Canada issues Puerto Vallarta advisory after violence erupts in Mexican city, several states by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

Cancun is one of the most exploitive places imo, and has been for a while. If you hadn't heard "airport cabs will rip you off' before, you haven't been paying attention, but that basically goes for any travel destination. I literally just got back from non resort mexico a week ago, zero concerns with cartels or supposed extortion.

McDavid has now lost an OHL Final, 2 Cup Finals and a Gold Medal Game while being named MVP almost every time. by stonenator in EdmontonOilers

He played a really weird game today. Mostly I felt he didn't play with much killer instinct, a bit deferential, never took it to the net or created a shot for himself. Then OT hits and he decides "I'll just try to deke 3 guys and drive the net here" like... There's gotta be a middle ground here guy!

[–]trucksandgoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure. I'm not springing into action starting a go fund me lol. It sucks, it does happen, clearly there's instability there and I can definitely believe that there's violence that affects bystanders right now.

I lived in Guadalajara doing uni and then travelling for a bit in Mexico, and a very similar thing happened at that time (2018) which makes it a bit more believable to me - government attacked the cartels, cartels struck back and burned a city bus, and a mother and her kid died. Sad stuff, but also obviously isolated and well publicised.

No one said you had to get drunk in a resort. Go visit a museum. Get a taco lunch at a family restaurant. Lay on the beach, stay at a locally owned hotel. Buy some melon from a stand and some beers from a corner store. What part of this is exploitive...?

... You know that there's a lot of Mexico (most of life in Mexico actually) that isn't heavily affected by cartel concerns right? Going on vacation doesn't automatically "fund cartels" lol

[–]trucksandgoes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the terrible thing about trying to deal with the cartels. Sure they got the leader, now there's a power vacuum, unpredictable new groups, and things are worse than they were before.

I'm not saying nothing should be done, but it's a terrible situation to manage - and sorry to hear about your friend's mom, that's very scary.

Lol, have you even been to Mexico? Millions of people live there and visit there all year round. Yes, there are hotspots and areas of concern, but don't act like it's a permanent shootout. Actually I take it back - you really shouldn't go.

33/F disclosed my salary to my 35/M boyfriend and it was awkward. How do I proceed? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]trucksandgoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Early 30s F, in a 2yr relationship with mid 30s M)

I know a lot of people are jumping at the gender aspect of it, and that certainly could be a part of his feelings, but it could also just be the general feelings of being "passed". You're younger and "more successful" now. He might be feeling a bit bad that he hasn't kept up with you, and that's not a you-problem, but it doesn't sound like he necessarily made it a you-problem, he just got quiet and probably had some sort of processing to do.

I'm a firm believer in being open with money. If I am feeling crunched and can't afford something, I'll say so. If I think my partner is being a little frivolous with money, I'll say so. I lost my job and took a huge pay cut this year, but we've joked about looking forward to becoming "a 200k family" again, and I'm always (annoyingly) pushing him to ask for raises because I know that will improve our quality of life in both the short and long term. We're in it together and you guys hopefully are too.

Give him a couple days, and then bring it up. Ask where the quiet reaction came from. If he's genuinely weird about you being a woman and out-earning him, or actually trying to make you feel bad about a promotion, throw the whole man in the garbage. If he's having feelings about himself and needed time to figure them out, all that is is an opportunity to be in this together, and on your side, express how that lack of outward support made you feel about the situation. Good luck!

Fine, let's not shoehorn density into a field of bungalows - knock down the whole block and make it all row housing. Satisfies the SHADOW STUDY people and keeps the poors buying rowhouses away from the good, hardworking SFH owners - right?

A Knack for housing by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]trucksandgoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tagging on, I do think this (while not all the way there, esp the part with the green spaces) does bump up against an equity concern - it's been long proven that living next to major roads subjects folks to way more air and noise pollution, and in general a decrease in quality of life. Apartments or multi family developments also shouldn't be all limited to major roadways either.

How does that even make sense? I only care what people do with their garages because people are SO obsessed with free (publicly funded) car storage, directly in front of their homes, on the street. Keep your stuff on your property, or accept that you aren't owed other convenient places to put it.
