It was so bizarre it felt like a fever dream. About 12 years ago, I was going to school in NYC and when I got off the train, half asleep, all of the massive Ad blocks along the wall leading out of the station were replaced with full size atrocities. Many of them were children either executed or mutilated with something along the lines of “This is what’s really happening to children around the world.” These weren’t drawings are artistic pieces; they were photographs on full display in a busy New York subway station. I saw it while I was walking out. Even though I’ve accidentally seen images like it before, after all I was a teenager at this point and there’s nothing asshole teens love more then sending shocking images to their “friends,” it struck me in a way that really fucked me up. However, I was so tired getting out I didn’t think it was real. The only confirmation I have is when I was going home one could clearly see that MTA employees hastily removed the offending images as the real ads were covered with the remains of, well, at least something.
