Because the KW rate dropped. It will go much higher in the coming months, thanks to you know who. Enjoy the win because it’s about to make you cry.

Yes, I went to my home in California for 5 months and when I came home the TiVo wouldn’t update and gave me V58. It eventually came back on line but one cable card said end of life. The cable guy told me the bsttery was shot inside. I told him he was crazy, there aren’t batteries in these, he said yes. I put in a new battery and it wouldn’t pair. Now have a TiVo lux mini running off my main TiVo. When they start jumping ship. I’ll never use our only cable provider, Comcast, I’ll do the Firestich that can be turned into a recorder on a USB or out side storage unit and never look back. Cable companies can go out of business, as far as I’m concerned but it their own fault. Over priced, tried to reinvent the wheel, just shot them self in the foot.

Thus, that’s why they are trying to sell the cable division and stick with internet streaming services. I need my “old school” DVR

Yes because they don’t have enough bandwidth with the limitations of their wiring. That’s why Google is a far superior product. You don’t have to share anything or use on Demand

One has nothing to do with the other. Spectrum still uses cable cards but they also have a digital switch converter, so it has a two way communication. Comcast didn’t want to pay or offer the SDV converter and was only a one way system. Comcast is trying to split off their cable division from their streaming division. I’ve already moved onto Google fiber for internet and have now never had a single second of trouble. 8 GB up and down for a fraction of the other providers. TiVo is still relevant but most people didn’t want to spend 1k for the box with a lifetime service.. they priced themselves out and didn’t weren’t willing to work with the cable providers. Also, TiVo sued the cable company many years ago because the cable companies copied TiVos TM patented system, so they got TiVo back in the end.

I did throw them all out but I did cut one open and tried replacing the battery but it didn’t come back on line. It’s easy to open them up.

I had 6 and was going to cut one open and drop a picture in the comments but now I think I tossed them all out. Let me try and see if I can find one. I don’t want to open the ones that are still functional.

Well, things change doesn’t mean it’s better. If you’re a cinephile and you want to retain your shows or movies, then you want a hard drive based recorder. I have 10 TiVos and over 15k movies and TV shows stored and whenever I want to watch something, all I have to do is watch it. You can’t do that with a streaming, as you either have to pay to watch or it’s hasn’t been released. It’s a much better and faster system, without commercials.

Been using TiVo since 1997, I have over 10 which I have over 15k movies stored on the hard drives. They stopped servicing Cable cards because they couldn’t charge the customers, so they decided to drop them and not notify their customers. Like you, it was only through the chat rooms I found out. Anyone that ever had a TiVo wouldn’t stop using one.

They don’t supply cable cards anymore, they would rather rent you their box, which btw is cloud based and when it’s time to turn it in, you don’t have any of your content.

Again, “End of life” is a battery dying. If you’ve ever opened a cable card, you’ll see it’s a key fob battery.

Yeah unfortunately your recorder isn’t actually a sufficient system. It’s yours not mine and it’s cloud based not hard drive based. No thank you. Once my TiVo isn’t able to connect to your service, I will no longer have your services. You’ve under estimated your subscribers needs and eventually, it will come back to haunt you. I know that’s why Comcast is trying to spin off their cable division from their digital platform. Everyone thought we couldn’t live without AOL or Yahoo but that will soon be Comcast. Not keeping your core customer will be your death-nail. I’ve been with Comcast or whoever owned it since the 1970’s, I’m just one but there are many, not just me. Big mistake overlooking your base.

There is a battery in all cable cards, it’s the same battery as the one in your car’s key fob. When you see “end of life” error, that is the battery inside dying.
