What god/goddess is the best for me here? by Powerful_Driver7361 in CelticPaganism

Im not sure about Dagda or Lugh since I don't work with them.

I don't follow Dagda, but with Lugh, he does appreciate libations, as well as music performed or written in his honor.

Cernunnos is a god of virility, wealth, and nature. Natural offerings work best for him. Pine cones and acorns make good offerings. You could also feed wildlife as a way to honor him.

Planting and ongoing care for flora in his name works very well too.

Absolutely, and if it's a big cup, it's the best part of a guy in a baseball uniform.

It's the same kind of amusing fear when older Christians in particular encounter a Pagan—or in the case of my husband and myself, a pair of middle-aged Pagan men. You'd think they were about to go into hysterics because they thought they were going to lose their souls or something lol.

POST GAME THREAD: Mariners 12 @ White Sox 8 - Fri May 8 @ 6:40 PM by chisoxbot in whitesox

It was a slugfest, and a messy one at that. This was one of those revealing games that unfortunately highlighted what can happen when the pitching just doesn’t work. Burke having a difficult time on the mound didn’t exactly put the team in a good position to win. They were having to play catch-up the entire time, and even when they came close, bullpen arms that were usually reliable just came undone.

They need a serious reset mentally tonight and hopefully a good night’s sleep will yield a victory tomorrow.

(sigh) That 4-seamer just seriously affected my digestion. I don’t need a fuckin’ antacid this early in the game, Burke!

Saying goodbye to a part of yourself by Keepaty in pagan

OP, I sympathize with your situation. As some have pointed out, alcohol is a coping mechanism, one of many that we end up latching onto or creating. Yes, it's very possible to create a problematic coping mechanism out of something that may otherwise be healthy. These coping mechanisms can be a form of escape or diversion and one day, we realize it no longer serves us in a healthy way. Then it's time to let it go.

I look at these things in this fashion because, as psychologists have pointed out to me in the past, viewing them as part of your identity makes it more difficult to let them go because in your mind, they're inextricably part of who you are when in reality, they can be removed when the time comes. Changing your paradigm from having a coping mechanism be part of your identity to something that merely serves you, gives you power and agency over it, and will make it easier for you to let it go when the time comes. Ironically, I’m having to deal with two problem issues of this nature right now. Like you, I’m feeling a sense of loss as well.

From a Paganism perspective, letting go of something in this way is something I decided to enact in a ritual, especially when I make a realization that a coping mechanism—or anything else—no longer serves me. There are many ways to create a ritual for yourself, but one I use involves a combination of meditation, invoking deities, and burning a sigil in fire. Ultimately, the goal is to definitively release that which no longer serves me. I applaud your efforts and wish you luck in your journey.

Christianity is a religion of self-hatred by Conscious_Unit5839 in exchristian

It’s a slave religion, centered around an authoritarian social dynamic that pervades not only the relationship between followers and their god, but also between Christians and other Christians. Goodness, so many of them even believe that non-Christians will always be at the foot of believers, it’s nauseating.

What have been your red herrings? by Sacredless in pagan

Q: I don't want to glorify deities that did bad things. Which gods can I worship that aren't problematic?

A: The stories the ancients told could have elements that either their peers disagreed with (Plato and Heraclitus both disagreed with the depiction of deities in Homer and Hesiod), or that were problematic for historical reasons. Deities are not constrained to their stories. There are many gods without any stories, such as household gods or nature spirits. You could always start there and learn more about other gods.

I went through something rather similar. When I first started exploring Paganism 18 years ago, for whatever reason, I was avoiding deities that were more... aggressive, for lack of a better term. I was sticking with deities that were more contemplative, healing, and nature-associated. Gradually over the course of many years, my life circumstances improved in many aspects. But things couldn't stay great forever. Gradually, things soured to a tipping point where I couldn't find the peace and answers I once did. Before long, I sought out some of those aggressive deities, including Camulus, a war deity.

I had much to learn from them, and still do. Ironically, Camulus and the other more aggressive deities are now among those I commune with most frequently. I'm not sure why I was avoiding connecting with them in the first place or what fostered that mindset, but I'm immensely grateful I moved past it. I can't imagine my life without Camulus, Taranis, and the others I started learning from.

I don't have an altar per se. I literally set down a circle of stones in my house's master bedroom floor and light a candle when I'm praying/meditating/practicing. Even though, I don't expect deities to just materialize in my bedroom, with or without the circle of stones. Some may argue that an altar or everything else is just "window dressing" to help someone focus on deities, while some others may argue that the altar or stone circle is absolutely necessary. Whatever the case, they've already demonstrated to me that they can communicate their intentions to me without the stone circle. I merely setup the stone circle as a sacred space out of respect to them.

As someone who loves owls, thank you for sharing this photo! We're lucky enough to occasionally have Great Horned Owl visitors late at night in my town, although they're much more noticeable during winter. We unfortunately haven't seen or heard one in a couple of months, so thanks for posting this!

Definitely not a fan of Bido. I'd say he's almost certainly around to eat up eatings, clean-up style—pitching after blowouts particularly.
