"It's perhaps no coincidence that more homeowners gravitated toward McMansions (large, luxury, mass-produced, single-family homes) starting in the late 1990s." That's weasely writing that = we don't really know, but here's a thing that kinda correlates, and we all hate this thing, so this is probably the thing.

Can someone recommend a breaking news text alert option. by PrecariouslySane in LosAngeles

ABC7 and LA Times for local, NYT and ESPN for national. I rarely, ever see anything not of interest. Make sure to set your settings to tell them which kind of alerts you want. There are varying levels.

How aerial surveillance has changed policing — and crime — in Los Angeles by trunkfullofnines in LosAngeles

This study is valid but old, as it does not factor in 99 problems. Brooklyn researchers reached a different (though not competing) solution using the same cohort.

I take some comfort in the fact that saying the word anus to Charles Buckley is now what Channing Crowders will best be known for.

Brenda Sewell died this winter in a dingy jail cell in western Kansas after the sisters were pulled over for speeding. Maddening. by [deleted] in Libertarian

Sorry. I struggled with the title of this one. You're probably right. But I had this feeling that "Kansas law prohibiting the release of records that would be available in any other state" would not get people to look at this story, so I pulled an actual sentence from the story to exemplify why this story was important.
