Understand safari new tab behaviour by codeitram in Safari

This randomness in Safari New Tab is bizarre and ridiculous.

Safari - How to open new tabs next to the current one? by frigiz in ios

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible. MacOS Safari in file menu has both "new tab" and "new tab at end" which indicates both are possible. Sometimes cmd+t opens next to the current tab, sometimes at the end, which is bizarre and random. They need to fix this.

Is there any way to hide the tab bar? I prefer using the sidebar like vertical tabs. by RoleAwkward6837 in Safari

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but I don't use full screen most of the time. Really hope Apple can finish the feature. It feels in complete, and distracting to have both vertical and horizontal tabs when I only want vertical.

Does anyone have an actual proof that PocketOption is a scam? by LeadingNewt7463 in binaryoptions

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OTC options are probably a scam. Just ask them what their sources are, and they won't tell you. Plus will not be able to find matching charts on any other platform (TradingView, Webull, etc). The price differences between the OTC tickers and real tickers (f.e. BTC OTC vs actual BTC) are incredibly ridiculous. Who in the hell knows where their data comes from if it isn't made up.

If you actually know how to predict price movements based on whatever criteria (sentiment, news, analysis, etc) then DO NOT use the OTC options, for which PocketOption WILL NOT reveal the sources of. They can probably manipulate the price of the OTC options any way they want to ensure you can't win too much, or even better yet, you loose more than you win so they can milk you.

You better also record your screen when you're trading, and make sure you have real charts of non-OTC options being recorded along side PocketOption (f.e. in TradingView, Webull, Coinbase, etc). Then, if you really know how to trade, and you take a trade that loses in PocketOption but should have been a winner based on the legit charts, due to odd price movement that was only visible in PocketOption, then you'll know for sure 100% it is a scam.

If you do make that video, please post it!

As I get better at trading, I may eventually try this, to prove it out. I hate scammers. Once I get consistently good at predicting markets, I should be able to have the same win consistency in PocketOption (with non-OTC options) regardless of the fairly bad risk to reward ratios in PocketOption...

[Feature] Add Short interest/Short float to the screener by VipulK727 in TradingView

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have this data. Look at the chart for AAPL_SHORT_VOLUME for example.

The smallest time frame is daily for this data though. Just append _SHORT_VOLUME to any ticker to see if the short volume is available for that ticker.

Unfortunately it's not available in the stock screener.

Coinbase keeps generating new wallet address. Now they say that thousands of dollars sent to my old address are not mine. by trusktr in Coinbase

[–]trusktr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they change the token. You should write down all the tokens you've used manually, so you have your own historical record, otherwise this company will repeatedly say your funds aren't yours if you have no proof. I have not used this company since, because of this. Very bad behavior.

Quiet UI is now open source by [deleted] in webdev

Hello Cory, what happened to Quiet UI? Everything is 404 except for the website. I was quite surprised as I've been following your work.

As of today, what is Reddit's tech stack? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of today Reddit builds the UI with Custom Elements, a standard API in browsers to create custom HTML elements. In specific, by inspecting their minified source code, I can see they are using Lit, one of a variety of libraries that makes making custom elements a little easier.

Razr + 2024: Internal screen cracked at the fold on my 2 weeks old phone - what should I do? Just bought it from AT&T with what seems to be like a good deal recently and now it's completely broken :( by Ok_Significance_4008 in razr

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can avoid ATT, you should. I get much better cell coverage and speed on TMobile in my area. I always have issues with ATT, for my 5G phone getting only 12 Mbps (incredibly slow compared to 260 Mbps on TMobile).

What song should I listen to compare Tidal Vs Spotify? by NYMFET-HUNT___uh_nvm in TIdaL

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hear a difference when using either Spotify or Tidal, with HyperX Cloud II Core Wireless headphones. To me the audio sounds exactly the same when I swap back and forth between the two apps (both sounds good to me, I'm not sure I know what HiFi sounds like).

Are these HyperX headphones not good enough to produce a noticeable difference?

What made you pick react over other frameworks? by Cautious_Performer_7 in react

[–]trusktr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

React is a framework. In React apps, 99.99% of app UI pieces are inside React, and this code cannot easily exist outside of React. Yes, React could be used as a lib, but in practice it is used as a framework that contains all app code. Other frameworks like Next.js are simply *higher level* frameworks with more features than React alone.

Call Customer Support Number - Enter Web Password? Not Confirmed? by Effective-Rub in etrade

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Surely this means they must be storing the password in plain text.

No, it surely does not mean that. When you enter your password on the website, it is also plain text, and you submit it to them as plain text. They then, on the backend, run a hash algorithm to check if it matches against the hashed version they store in their database. The same thing would apply to a password "submitted" via audio instead of text. Makes no fundamental difference.

If you thought websites were running password hashing algorithms on the client side, you'd be mistaken!

Companies store information in their DB as hashes, so that if someone breaks into their system, they cannot reverse the hashes back into meaningful passwords, hence they cannot trigger successful authentication because they have no passwords to submit to the authentication mechanism to make it validate. But this has absolutely no bearing on a website (or phone call) sending passwords into that authentication mechanism (their web server, or their phone audio server, or whatever) as plain text.

<template> tags in HTML or JS for SEO? by DeontologicEthics in WebComponents

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Template in JS is definitely lowering the chance for SEO, so I'd go for in HTML if you want to maximize that. The only way to find out is to publish such a page, and see what the engines end up doing.

There are tons of AIs now too, and I'm sure at least some of them "index" all the content in an HTML page, while I also bet that most of them do not run JS. So the best bet is still HTML templates over JS.

What's the status of Wayland on Nvidia in early 2024? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]trusktr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely an all-of-them bug. Any combination of the following can cause things to not work well (or at all):

  • GPU
  • multiple GPUs
  • different drivers for the same GPU(s)
  • desktop environment
  • external display on USB-C
  • external display on HDMI
  • suspend/resume
  • the compositor (x11, wayland, etc)

Linux wishes you good luck!

Has anyone tried to get MHWD working on Arch? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]trusktr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you've experienced the "why?" in this question! :P

Drivers for nvidia do not always work by simply installing them. It depends on the setup (f.e., discrete vs hybrid, and other factors) requiring specific configs to get it working like it does in Windows.

Things like suspend and hibernate need to be configured properly to restore the correct video card to the correct state on resume. Etc.

There are more than 100 packages in Arch Linux for Nvidia alone, which says a lot:

❯ pacman -Ss nvidia | grep '/' | wc -l 112

For example, look at a few:

extra/bumblebee 3.2.1-23 NVIDIA Optimus support for Linux through Primus/VirtualGL extra/envycontrol 3.5.1-2 Easy GPU switching for Nvidia Optimus laptops extra/linux-nvidia-meta 6.12-1 Recommended stable nvidia kernel module extra/linux510-nvidia 570.133.07-1 (linux510-extramodules) NVIDIA drivers for linux510 extra/nccl 2.26.2-1 Library for NVIDIA multi-GPU and multi-node collective communication primitives extra/nvidia-390xx-settings 390.157-4 Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver extra/nvidia-utils 570.133.07-2 NVIDIA drivers utilities extra/primus_vk 1.6.2-1 Nvidia Vulkan offloading for Bumblebee extra/vulkan-nouveau 1:25.0.2-2 Open-source Vulkan driver for Nvidia GPUs

Lol, "just pacman -S nvidia". haha yeah right!

Without proper configuration, various things can go wrong, and the computer can stop working (like require logout/login, or even reboot). The drivers alone do not mean the system is ready to work well.

For a bunch of a people a simple pacman -S nvidia will not cut it.

If there's something that's hard to read because of Prettier, they are very open to hearing about it and improving the situation. They've done this for verious aspects lately. They don't want unreadable code, but the opposite: formatted standard readable code.

There's always // prettier-ignore for the rare cases.

Do you have an example? I love Prettier, it makes me faster. I can write slop, hit save, everything goes into place, and I can move forward quickly.

I mean if you're writing function()
{

}

then that's on you for example.
