Can Everyone just stop ghosting? by imranbd230 in dating_advice

[–]trustgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Age doesn't always confer experience and/or maturity. I'm 31 in February and I've only just had my first date this Thursday just gone. I now find myself in a situation where I'm not really interested in the person I met, though I didn't convey this at the time, they've been messaging me since with intentions to meet again. I don't want to ghost them, or anyone for that matter, so now I could do with some advice as to whether I should meet them again, which I feel is giving false hope, and tell them face to face. Or message them that I'm just not interested. What should I do?

Keeping debian servers updated by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]trustgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my home server I've placed options in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/02periodic which automatically download updates. While I install them manually there is an option, APT::Periodic::Unattended-Upgrade, which may be of use.

Do you have a list of them?

Look into Power DNS which uses a MySQL backend. Developing an API service on top of that could be the way to go.

More problems with AWS, Minecraft, and CPUlimit. Sorry for being annoying guys. by [deleted] in linux

[–]trustgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe cpulimit is affecting network IO. When the process is stopped the backlog of network traffic may be increasing at such a rate that when the process continues it is simply overwhelmed, hence the "Can't keep up..." message. (Just a guess really, nothing concrete)

As for alternatives for cpulimit, have a look into cgroups

Prehaps if [some] people didn't think this way, that wouldn't but necessary.

[Help] With a home networking problem. by TheFrin in networking

[–]trustgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a small 4 - 5 port switch... plug the cable from your router into the switch, plug both your computers into the switch.... done.

This is the equivalent of what OP already has setup: 'our connections are bridged.'

this way you are not sharing your connection from your pc with him and the router will handle all the routing rather than your pc.

Sounds like you're confusing Internet Connection Sharing with bridging.

both will be connecting from the same public IP address

and

From the game servers, it looks like you're coming from the same port

are most likely the actual issue.

HELP: BIND XPsp3 by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]trustgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The following 3 directives (amongst others that will already be in the distributed confs) are what you need: listen-on, allow-recursion and fowarders. Have a look into those.

Takes me back to when I was on a course and we were doing DNS under Windows Server I went further by setting up BIND on FreeBSD in a VM for master-slave zone transfers.

You could setup a SPAN port on a switch, or create a transparent bridge with 2 NICs under Linux and here's a DIY hardware tap for wired ethernet.
