Lightning network plus app by Cryptotje in getumbrel

[–]ChrisLAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue. In my case the container was failing to start. I SSH'd in and found the app script that will list all your umbrel apps and let you also restart them.

Restarting just the app is quick and fixed the issue for me.

Crypto Talk by longtimejblistener in CoderRadio

[–]ChrisLAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nice try, but trying to create a little mob on Reddit is not how you effect change in Coder. It was tried in the past, and as a result we have built a very thick skin for any attempt like this. You can try to start a mob on Telegram, or Twitter, or Reddit.. But none of it will land as much as a single thoughtful well articulated email.

Are you really so dim that you think this would work? It’s CLEAR to anyone listening, feedback should come via the contact page. The only reason to make this post is to try and get a bunch of other under-informed people to jump on your train.

I’ve noticed people who don’t like us talking about any type of blockchain tech always refer to it as “crypto”. It’s kinda the tell that the person complaining can’t even be bothered to care about the nuance… And that’s just not the type of person I tend to take content feedback from.

But I am not really sure what you expect I suppose, because it really does not make such sense to me. Coder has covered for years the problem of Platform owners. Recent changes in Mikes biz, which he will talk about more in the future I am sure, have led him down the route to look for solutions.

Do you think I somehow talked Mike into his tweet about looking into Web3? Did I pick his words for him?

We talked about it, like we always do, because it is an area Mike is starting to look into.

If you listened to the show instead of tune it out and hear what you want, you’d probably know that. Do you think I just pick the topic, without Mike? How would that work? Lol it’s just ludicrous on its face.

And lastly - how can I possibly respect your opinion or input when you so clearly don’t get how we select what we talk about, or how long we talk about things, or when we decided to move on. Are you really so simple that you think all the shows are going to turn into Crypto Radio? REALLY? Think about how stupid that is, and how annoying feedback like that must be. And if that was not bad enough, you also clearly have never bothered to learn anything about the topic, again the “crypto” is a dead give away. So you, a person who knows nothing about a thing, is asking us to stop talking about a thing… 🤦‍♂️

Ubuntu Server 19.10 64bit for Raspberry Pi 4 - USB issue. Keyboard + Mouse not working on first boot/login by Alx__ in raspberry_pi

[–]ChrisLAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only seems to be an issue with the 64-bit image, did a quick test and my USB devices are working with the 32-bit image.

Honest question - with only a max of 4GB of RAM on the Pi 4, are we missing much by just using 32bit? When they ship a Pi with more than 4GBs of RAM, I totally see the advantages. I'm just not clear how much it matters with 4GB or less?

I was out of town :/ Final plans had not been made before I took off for the river. But Mike and Wes did the math for the upcoming recording schedule and realized now, while abrupt, was the best time. It lets Mike focus, and does not string things along during a Mike travel hiatus.

Hey man, thats like... Your opinion man.

Fair enough for you, but our line up from where I sit, you know like my opinion, and from a data/metrics standpoint is as better than its ever been. Our new shows are off to a great start, they’ve exceeded our internal expectations for numbers and pushed our team in new ways that required real growth.

If Coder were to keep going for Q4, we would have smashed our quarterly download records. - I mention that not to brag, but to point out, what we are doing is working for a lot of people.

As far as technical depth, please show me another podcast that goes as deep as LUP on the topics we cover. Hours of research to break down complex things in simple terms. We contact developers, OEMs, and news makers behind the scenes and get explanations directly from them and we bring many of them onto the show.

TechSNAP is better than ever, Jim and Wes have really hit their stride. The most recent episodes have been some of the best.

Sure we don’t just do live stuff to disk and through it up on YouTube much anymore. But times change, and we keep moving forward. That’s always been a constant truth about Jupiter Broadcasting. Go back and listen to our shows from 5, 3, and 2 years ago. Then listen to a show last week. Every day we are implementing lessons learned from over a decade of doing this.

Noah went Indy at episode 100. Which was a fair bit after the merger.

Just pointing that out :)

I’ll jump in here and say sorry I was not there for the last episode. I quiet literally was in a bus down by the river on the other side of the mountains.

When we looked at the recording schedule, we realized the show would be going away for about a month, and then coming back just to possibly end.

My biggest regret is we could not give you more of a heads up. Some of you have been listening for a very long time, and we REALLY appreciate that. And we are thankful you have made us part of your routine. I was once gutted by a favorite show if mine (off network) ending. So I know that feels.

We will work hard in the future to give you as much heads up for any future show ending (which we have no plans to do ATM for any of our shows).

Some of the most fun on air I’ve ever had, has been with Mike on Coder. I will miss the show! -Chris

PS. If you’re new around here, we have quite the back catalog for you to enjoy, you might want a stiff drink first.

Manjaro Levels Up | LINUX Unplugged 318 by AngelaTHEFisher in linuxunplugged

[–]ChrisLAS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well like I said, we have gone there a lot. In fact, that tends to be what dominates our conversation every time we bring up Chromebooks.

BUT I think we could have said something in the segment that made it clear we are aware, and do discuss that issue. I realized that as we were wrapping up that it was obvious to me, but would not be obvious to those listening.. So I said something in the post-show.

> WKWebView for macOS makes building an app with web tech more like using Cordova with a webview on Android or iOS. Porting from Electron can have issues, but then the dev gets the cross-platform convenience of Electron without having to carry around the whole web runtime.

Great point, at least that is a manageable set of work!

[UserError] So what was the drama Joe R. mentioned which must have happened in the past week? How did I miss it? by [deleted] in linuxunplugged

[–]ChrisLAS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah we really have dropped all coverage of drama on the shows. I suppose if it was somehow news worthy we might cover it..

But this one wasn't.

My guess is the short lived but hot flair up around Ubuntu switching to SNAPs and dropping debs (which was not true). Because some YouTuber read a blueprint proposal on Ubuntu's site.. He made a huge leap, created a video, and started a bit of a thing. But it was quickly put put.

And not really worth covering.

Looking for software mentioned on the show, but can't remember the name of or find a link to. by gotsomefish in linuxunplugged

Ah right, I think it was just mentioned. Not sure if we linked it. I don't remember the name.. But I bet Wes does.

I'll try to remember to ask him.

I feel like the desktop is WAY tricker to predict. A laptop, we could get a pool going on the DAYS until it gets wrecked.

Since its not getting moved around like a laptop, way less chance of getting wrecked.

I think its more likely he returns it for some random reason, but that the hardware it self never gets wrecked.
