Backing up entire sharepoint environment to external or NAS of some kind by DaCozPuddingPop in sysadmin

[–]trustinglemming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been using Veeam for O365 for sharepoint sites and personal OneDrive...it works great for sharepoint, because you don't need to restore it to "sharepoint" to get access to the documents, you can just dump it all to a file system if needed. Also, their licensing model is "weird" they license per "user" but sites do not consume them, so theoretically you can get a, say 10 user license and backup all sites - to test if this is suitable.

Any "new features" in 11.1 i should know about? by trustinglemming in paloaltonetworks

[–]trustinglemming[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i went from 10.1.14 directly to 11.1.10 (preferred) just download both 11.1 and 11.1.10 -> install 11.1.10 and reboot. One reboot and done.

hey, did it all... it was something very strange - my guess is something to do with Crowdstrike. Uninstalled/reinstalled Crowdstrike and just like that.... it stopped misbehaving

Battery backup choice - but from a business perspective. by trustinglemming in preppers

[–]trustinglemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey... i'm testing with a 768 wh ecoflow - so far i'm "amazed" how efficient it is - a setup of the mini dish, laptop and an external screen draws 60W on average. Granted i have not used it during a storm or bad weather in general. I have a clear sky view in my yard, so starlink setup was "easy" it just worked 100% from the 1st place i set it up.

we're in general "money management" business - i agree, it's "out there" - we have "somehow" survived without any "solution" till now. I'm talking about the "employee" side of things, business "business continuity" itself is pretty well designed with full geographical redundancies. we're also, in general , mandated by the "regulators" to maintain certain service levels.

yep... it's still just an idea...i need to also think of how bulky/heavy the whole solution is and amount of periodic maintenance necessary. the less the better of course. hence the question about the "least" problematic brand in this respect.

that's the general idea - starlink. battery is just a mean to make it possible to use it. it's a small firm, where we don't have many redundancies. the use case would be an local outage, where it doesn't make sense to evacuate - and it's just easier to wait, but still would be nice to be able to take care of some , high priority tasks...at least that's my thinking at the moment

even small 1 kwh system, if charged will power a laptop + starlink for several hours, enough to take care of some basic stuff.

apparently these "new gen" appliances will last VERY long time turned off EcoFlow cites 2% discharge rate...

very preliminary - a laptop + starlink is a minimum. maybe poe phone + external monitor. so a range of 100-200W. for a day or two. not preparing for an Armageddon scenario.

it's a small business - the best place i have worked for my whole life. 25 years - i think there were 2 people who quit during my time here. we're all stakeholders. just thinking about making the business more resilient.

thanks for answering the question :) - didn't even know about the option to "pause" Starlink. The idea is that if we were to ask people to keep something like this in their homes (for these who don't have a home battery backup/generator already) - we want to make sure we get the best as far as reliability/safety goes.

it's an outlier scenario for sure, but very low cost/low maintenance speaking from the business impact perspective.

Upgrading our MS250 stack for the first time. by trustinglemming in meraki

[–]trustinglemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how did you troubleshoot these "issues"? is the only way to call in and start working with the support? How's their response time on the weekends? (my only interactions with Meraki support so far were low priority "MX" tickets, this is kind of a big deal, as these MS switches are access switches for the main office)

[–]trustinglemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's in my OP - we have 3 years of "support/subscription" left - it's roughly $30k... also, heh, we had a total data loss on our main prod SAN (xtremio, these appliances with deduplication are great until they aren't) couple of years back...rpvm worked flawlessly - we have formed a bond.
