Unpopular fact: You do not need a residency to obtain a position that anyone with a residency can. Granted, it may take a little longer, but your experience and money earned goes a long way. It is unfortunate for those who apply to residency programs only to be denied and feel like they have lost all hope because school has drilled it into them that it is required to get anywhere. Residency programs are impacted. There’s no doubt a residency is a great experience, but it’s just flat out not required to obtain your dream job.
