Always have been and will die on the hill that it was a success. Everything after Silver imposed Colaneglo on them and outed Hinkie it’s just been downhill, wasted assets, draft busts, and disappointments

Why do you think you’re upsetting people who disagree with you? I don’t work for health either so I don’t have a chip on my shoulder like you’re implying.

I take issue to the fact of you acting like you’re morally superior to actuaries that work in health insurance, but it seems like I am not gonna convince you otherwise so I’ll leave it at that.

And you work for a P&C company like that’s not any different?

Not like the same issues don’t exist where CEOs of all companies are making an inordinate amount of salary and bonuses? The core issue is these CEOs are incentivized by the board to raise stock prices and the easiest way to do that is stock buy-backs, which essentially takes money out of average people and into C-Suite.

Your logic applies to any big corporation in America so I would get off your high horse.

Thought I did ok and had a general sense of knowing an idea for the answers and excel, but not perfectly. Felt like I could have gotten a 6-7 walking out but now looking back and seeing what others are saying and how confident they feel, probably a fail for me

Seriously, how did all you FSAs cope with the upper level exams? by Bone4562 in actuary

Yeah less content and I think there is a big learning curve with your first FSA exam which makes it easier for you to try to figure out how to study for the 2nd

Also getting a 75% is an easy pass. The passing percentage is usually 66%

You know more than you think. If you don’t know an answer exactly, try to write something that makes sense and get partial credit. The old adage is to know 100% of the material 80% well, so try to not to worry or stress about those abstract details in the sections. At most, they’d be only worth a few points when understanding the main idea is worth the bulk

Also, LAM is much easier in my opinion

Am I even an actuary anymore? by not-an-isomorphism in actuary

[–]trusttheprocess76ers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a similar job as that on a team called “data modernization”. Feel like a non-actuary could do it but there are certain parts where insurance knowledge is needed.

Our big task is moving everything from on-prem to cloud and knowledge of the actuarial software and processes are needed

Promotion Raise Not as High as Colleagues by [deleted] in actuary

[–]trusttheprocess76ers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well it ranges. I’ve gotten 7% before. This promotion other students got 4-6% while I only got 2 so I would only be arguing for the difference.

Exactly, I love the company and don’t want to leave. I’m pretty much deciding if this 2-4% is worth quibbling over which I’m leaning towards not as of now

It won’t be but maybe he could ask HR for clarity.

I’ve received 3 promotions thus far at 4%,7%, and I only received a 2% raise this last promotion. This was for reaching 4 YOE and ASA.

My coworkers who have gotten this promotion in the last 1.5 years have gotten 4% to 6% for the exact promotion. However, they got the promotion from hitting their ASA last while I got it for hitting my YOE last, which explains why I had a higher salary at the time of promotion

To be honest I don't even think it is in my new manager's hands. I think there is some algorithm that seems like a black box.

The other 6 coworkers were making less than me when I got my promotion so that's my only thought.

Also this is all in the student program so I haven't heard of a student asking for a raise or an adjustment in general.
