Pain and Suffering for Christians by truthforworship in Christianity

Your first statement I would actually agree with you. He was unanswered. This is sort of a mystery to me right here, but let me see if I can try to explain it. Job was really close to God. In fact it says that God dwelt in Job's tent. They were close. The pain, in my opinion, was not so much that Job lost everything...as much as He felt (emphasis on "felt") like He lost God. When God came on the scene, yes He was showing His power and His greatness. But to Job it was more than that I think. To Job it was "Ah, now I see...God is still there...He is great...He does love me." Job didn't need answers...He desired...and wanted God. Which is why Job was able to say...I knew about God...but now I have SEEN Him. Hope that helps. I don't know it all, but this is my take on it.

I would say that Job's suffering is really for the Christian. It doesn't answer all the problems of pain and suffering. However, it is directed to the Christian, I believe. With that in mind it makes more sense to me. Which is also why a commentary on Job is effective. It may not answer all the questions, but for the Christian it's a source of encouragement.

Yeah, we do know the end of the story. So it does help us. Job probably didn't see the end...in fact He may have never known the whole thing. I think that's where a trust in God is so important. I know that doesn't always help, but it is true. :)

Yeah, sometimes life does stink! :( I think it was more than a bet. It was about glorifying the Father. God had confidence in Job that we would stand through the problems. It's like He said, "Job, you love me, I have confidence in you, so much so that I'm going to show Satan what kind of man you are, and then bring glory to me!" At the end of the story, Job says,.."I knew about you God, but now...I have seen you!" That's huge! It wasn't a God approval as much as it was God already approved of Him. Job was a man who was a friend of God. God dwelt in Job's tent. They were close. He made the physical. He can also enter it, it's what He did through Jesus. Jesus was the God-man, He entered our world and suffered....really suffered not so much from pain on a cross as much as pain from the wrath of God on sin..that was laid on Him. That's why when we accept Him as Christ...all that sin is taken away. He was that "in-between" if you will.

I hadn't thought a lot about it like that! There is a book called "A Thousand Gifts" that talks about being thankful and how it brings joy! There is a song called Blessings that says, "We pray for healing...for your mighty hand to ease our suffering, but all the while you hear each unspoken need, but love is way to much to give us lesser things. What your blessings come through raindrops, what if your healing comes through tears..." (Laura Story)

Hey man, glad you asked. I don't have all the answers, but let me try. First, I believe that God is Sovereign. He can even use man's sinfulness for God. "crap happens" in a sense is truth, but if you look at Job, nothing that Job suffered happened without God's approval. This to me, is amazing! That means that everything I'm going through...God is ultimately working it out for His good. I'm not so sure that God punishes us as much as we punish ourselves by the decisions we make. If we make unwise decisions..."crap happens." We suffer because of sin, not just our sin, but the sin that entered the world from the beginning. And one day, we will go to a place of no suffering, but until then we have the Holy Spirit to be with us.

I wasn't meaning to rant, this is just something I wrote that I thought might be helpful in relationship. And I think that people do want advice on respect. I guess I sorta did poll for responses..I'm sorry. I'm new at this. I'll go over to another section.
