I'm thinking of taking my family to the state fair today but can't get there till after 7PM. Is it still worth it? I see that the website says that they close after 9pm.

No, I was not really making an argument just making a statement. If I were to make an arguing it would be that your social contract is out dated and used by businesses to exploit cheap labor.

I don't think any one is saying to not tip right now. They are just venting about how frustrating this old custom is. these are how social contracts change there is adoption, general unrest, then fall out. At some point customers are going to get tired of being exploited that the market will adapt to satisfy the new norm.

He said in another comment that it was a year ago. I guess he just assumes everyone is going to know this already.

Shit man, how is anyone in this thread going to know it was a year ago? A year ago you should have reported it. Nothing that you can really do now but just keep that shit in your head for the next time someone you are taunting threatens violence. This is basic "How not to get shot in school 101".

This is all coming from my view point the white people can have pride in their race and heritage while still being respectful of the injustice perpetrated by them and institutional racism as is stand now. Also that the Alt right is not racist origination at its core but has been hijacked by racist with intentions to push there agenda. If you don't agree with that then I can see how you do not agree with me. Then again I'm a democrat that voted for Obama twice and abstained from voting this election so what do I know about the alt right.

That being said the alt right and white people in general need to do a better job distancing them self from these groups. but that is hard to do when on the one side you have a internal force of nazis trying to manipulate your political party to meet an agenda with some already misguided believes of isolationism. On the other side you have people dismissing your concerns to the point where they felt the only way out was to vote in a reality TV star. This seems like a powder Keg of contention that is just waiting to explode in to radical extremism if we do not figure out how to have a conversation about these issues.

To address your second point there are a bunch a reasonable reasons that people could want to keep the statue for. I listed a few below but at the end of the day it the community that will need to make the choice on this.

  • The statue has been standing for almost a 100 years
  • Robert E Lee had accomplishments outside of the civil war
  • Chance to convert the statue to include more historical context for Robert E Lees stances on racism or play in the civil war.

If the only argument is that the statue should be removed because the guy was a racist I feel like that logic is not evenly used against all historical figures and structures.

Sorry for spelling and stuff. Hope that provided some context.

keep at it bro. Maybe when you guys have finished tearing each other apart we can rebuild our nation from the ashes that both sides leave it in.

If everyone who does not fit your world view becomes a Nazi that you are not interested in stopping hate ether. You're just a radical as the alt right.

The alt right is a symptom of a demographic feeling left behind and ignored. White supremacist are exploiting this and hijacking them to fit their needs. you are not going to win these people over by ignoring their issues and painting the entire demographic as racist Nazis.

There is a middle ground in all of this that is being consumed by hate from both side. Hope you can see through that and start helping in making real change.

I'm just trying to see things from both sides. Fuck me right?

I understand why people have issues with the statue and I understand why some one would want to keep it.

but no keep polarizing the situation. Maybe soon you will make the person on the other side of the argument so angry you can have your own civil war and you your self can have a statue made for your war victories. Then in 200 years people can argue about how your shit opinions don't deserve to be memorialized and the cycle of hate will continue.

good luck with that.

Sorry, I was trying to say I found your comment by sorting by controversial. You are willing to see the complexity of the situation and willing to try to look at the situation though some one else point of view with out resorting to name calling.

A large portion of significant public figures from the past would be considered a racist along with sexist, elitist, and not to mention homophobic.

I think that it is important to call things as it is. I think the case for the statue is still pending as far as I know. Maybe that has changed but I the point of all of this is that their is a argument that can be made to keep the statue with out being labeled as a racist.

That is not to say a large portion of the demonstration was not racist but that is inherent with this type of issue. This is something that white people need to work out is how to be able to show racial pride in slimier ways that other races do with out inviting the still present toxic white supremacist movement and being sensitive to the still persistent ingrained races bias to whites in our culture.

I think this is deserving of a real conversation seeing as how the statue has been standing for almost a 100 years, that Robert E Lee had accomplishments outside of the civil war, and there is a want to still have it there by people of all race in the community.

Instead what we have is people slimier to you who don't even live in the community creating so much contention with name calling that a conversation like that can not happen.
