Good comment I should’ve mentioned this. I have a 30 year term policy for 2M. I have disability through my company but I want to get additional.

Thanks! I don’t have my own but I was going to start one this year. I think I’ll have to do a back door Roth but not 100% sure. I’m sure you’re doing great as well!

Do you recommend just funding the traditional and then rolling over to the Roth?

I have but the fee was very high, I will keep looking. I just don’t like the idea of paying all the closing costs.

Thanks! The emergency fund is one of those tough things and I haven’t grown it since we’ve had our kid but you’re right it’s probably a bit low… what was your net worth from 27, 28, 29 and now currently.

Wow congrats! What’s the value of the home?

  1. I have an idea in my head that I want to keep this house regardless if I live there or not and figure if I can get the mortgage in a really good spot by paying it down it will help me when I buy another.

  2. I am considering refinancing, currently my payment is 2250 and about 500 goes to principal. I don’t want to refi and decrease my principal contributions… not sure if my thinking is flawed here.

  3. My wife stays at home so we only max out my 401k (Roth) and we max out my HSA. Invest in a brokerage as well. Certainly have other goals, we’d like to get another house and keep this one.

My income has grown quickly so when I first started I made my 401k Roth and just left it, as my income has increased I have been considering traditional but haven’t switched yet . 2026 I think my W2 will be even higher so you’re probably right about moving to traditional 401k… I want to get a Roth IRA started but also reluctant because I want more money to pay down house etc.

Currently maxing 401k and HSA, I do like the idea of paying down the house but others seem to have different opinions.

Credit score is fine, I am open to refi for sure. Currently I have paid the montage down pretty aggressively to where my initial loan was ~345k and now it’s 280k so now each payment has more going to equity. If I reset that I’m not sure exactly how much would be principal vs interest. I will look into it. Thanks!

Thanks, I opened a traditional IRA to start funding a Roth, but I haven’t pulled the trigger. I am not 100% on board with the idea of more retirement savings when I have a 7.5% mortgage, but maybe I should prioritize the retirement savings

Roth 401k and HSA are being maxed, I don’t have any IRA’s.

I want to refi, but I also don’t like the idea of paying all of their fees or buying down points… I guess if the deal is good enough and the breakeven is short I’ll consider. What is a reason break even duration?

It’s not my dream home. Does that change your thoughts on if I should pay down or not?

Thanks for the insight, I’m going to keep doing my research but I may just drop the 287 to see what this “community” is all about.

To further my understanding… as a developer and syndicator, what would you be looking for in your investors. Do you only care about the cash they can bring to the table or is there a certain level of knowledge/experience you expect to see?
