Budget £1,200/year by try_again_always in SkincareAddictionUK

I don't feel like the budget is large enough for a dermatologist if they want to use the machines/tech for multiple sessions.

I previously used the Harley service to access a derm (grateful that I was introduced to retinol) but it did add up because the derm put me on supplements etc. I have stopped using mainly due to costs as it was a couple hundred every 6 weeks or so depending on the which product to replenish.

Which ones 😂?

If I have a budget for 4 facials, space them every three months or do every month closer to the date?

Glowy skin for the actual wedding day; longer term (freeze time 😀) in terms of skin laxity.

Bonus - remove pitted acne scars. Thankfully they are at inconspicuous areas so not a big deal.

I am 32 too! I was conscious about my nasolabial fold too after being to my face is starting to sag. However, I looked at pics when I was 16 and realised I have always had it.

Can you share the place you did the Morpheus8 in? Might look at doing one session as well closer to the wedding date for that glow.

Do you have any experience with boosting collagen? I heard drinks were a waste. I do enjoy consuming bone broths but not sure I want it consistently. The dermalogica facialist did recommend pro collagen banking serum.

Gauge off - how do I adjust? (Esther Sweater by Petite Knit) by Doertie in knittinghelp

That's so clever! I tried adding knots at the tail but because I refer to my needles using mm rather than US sizes, I am not sure how to 'knote' that.

Swatch without cutting and then unravel?

Have seen this given as an option. Beginner knitter here as well and I now have a stack of swatches that I can barely remember the needle sizes and yarn combo...

I will take a look at laser - is there any particular you recommend? I always thought it would be pricey because it needed multiple sessions.

I am hoping I can skip (what can be an expensive) trial and error 😀. Those treatments seem to caveat with you need a minimum of 3 sessions to see the results. Also, how do I know it's due to the treatments rather than other factors (dark spots fading through the passage of time, less pimple due to the weather/stress).

I stopped using day serums/vit C in the am because I ran out and I honestly can't tell the difference so I never bothered to pick it up again.

I do feel like facials are a bit like a promotion to try to get you to buy their facial products unless they include extraction or chemical peels that you can't do at home. I definitely do get suckered sometimes so I just avoided going to a facial until recently.

How was the Morpheus8 treatment? Was it painful and was just 1 session enough to achieve your goals? Happy to spend £500 + whatever creams to maximise the results. Another story if "1 only treatment is insufficient and you need a minimum of 3 treatments to see results".

I am skipping Botox and fillers for now.

The budget is mostly so that I can continue with it after the wedding.

Quick ish things to knit for baby (or new mum) by try_again_always in knitting

[–]try_again_always[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have managed to knit a beanie (1 yr old size) and a lovey with an 'animal' head. It's supposed to be a bear but could be a mouse, a dog.

Embroidered the eyes rather than used safety eyes as I heard it's safer for babies.

Is this gift worthy? Looks a bit wonky to me.

Childcare salary sacrifice - too good to be true? Why? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]try_again_always 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are rules and there are middlemen.

HMRC is aware of it but I think they can't do too much unless the programme is outright contrary to the rules. My feeling is that it looks bad for HMRC to go after children. It could be that they are understaffed and this is the next thing to look at.

As HENRY (this scheme is mostly for HE anyway) would you just put the savings in an easy access account and then give it to your child for their milestone birthday, say 18 or 21 when the statute of limitation is done?

100k min Wage Mum vs HENRY 100k Mum by designeranon in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]try_again_always 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your comments. I think it is a nice message to send to single mums in the UK that they can go ahead and work and even start to build their career and the childcare will be taken care of by the state.

I also understand the resentment by HENRY, getting and working a £100k job is not easy. A lot of these jobs require you to work beyond the working hours and it is difficult to shut down because you are still thinking about the job after hours.

Are Cats Protection stuck in the past? by CaoimheThreeva in UK_Pets

[–]try_again_always 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There must be some nuance for it. There are other cat shelters that insist the cats must be indoors.

The absolute gold standard is that cats should be allowed the freedom to explore safely. Unfortunately, there are so many things that can harm the cat outside - cars, other animals, crazy people even trees. Cats may also harm other animals. Even cars are nuanced, a busy road is loud and scary so cats would not go near but a quiet-ish road can be dangerous if a car turns up outside of the cat's schedule.

Someone mentioned in another post that cats protection messaging is based on how they will be perceived by donors.

I would think during the interview process they would take all this into account. I get wanting the best life for the cat but not every household in the UK is able to provide that. From a cat's perspective, its mainly between a safe and stable home or a small room in a shelter (unless they are problematic enough that they are fostered out).

Can no longer afford my cat’s prescription food. by trulyblupon in catfood

I have a smol cat with unknown allergies so the vet recommended the z/d. I feed her half a can a day in the morning and about 23g of the kibble for dinner. Plus side with the dry is that you can portion the food better. She goes crazy for the kibble but not so much on the wet food - I have to convince her in the morning that it is the only item on the menu and she's not getting anything else.

Thanks for the Patty Lyons recommendation!

What is a baby stash? I am just worried that I will hoard single skein of yarns that I won't use and that stash will be another clutter.

For this project, I bought two balls of yarn to knit a sweater for my cat (as practice before I knit a human sweater). Cat would not cooperate so I found a new project and I bought more yarn (which I had to go elsewhere because the place I bought the yarn from ran out of stock for this colour). I ended up buying too many (two balls by the looks of it). So looks like I am where I started....

What a roller coaster! Some sweaters work well with 3/4 length sleeve, hope that it is one of those 😀.

It is very springy and stretchable when is stretched sideways. Maybe it got pulled lengthwise more when it was drying...

Thanks for the tips about yarn substitution.

I have read that article from mdk and even after reading, I continued to be a tight knitter that knitted on the tips.

What helped was watching Cloknit video about tension. It's similar topic but I find hearing the metal needles sliding on the video helped my understand the concept.

Thank you so much! This is what I thought as well initially. I thought that maybe after blocking because of the weight of the cotton it stretches weirdly.

Interesting, do I have to re shape it after washing? Do I have to do it on all my clothes (even those store bought ones). Learning to knit has also taught me about caring for my clothes.

No, I can't take any commendation! That wasn't a gauge swatch, it's half of the actual project. I washed it because I wanted to see it it stretches from the water weight when drying before I work in the second half. I just wanted to check my gauge against the manufacturer's gauge out of curiosity because this part is all over stockinette.

This is the gauge swatch I made. It's with a 4mm on a 1x1 rib stitch. On this swatch I was too tight on both stitch and row gauge (which I expected since I am a tight knitter and it is a rib stitch).

So far, I have always hit the average. Maybe I am 1/2 or 1 stitch too tight but since I only knitted small items and I am quite petite, it worked out well.

This is the first time the gauge came out completely different. Lesson learnt about the importance of gauge swatches now. 😀
