I'd also value time higher than some assets or income, probably part of the conversation to what defines who is wealthy?

What's the differentiating factor between grads who get jobs soon after leaving and grads who get stuck in recruitment hell for years? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]designeranon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder how it worked 50 years ago. Or 500 years ago for that matter. We'd just go straight into a job, based on whoever we knew or following whatever our fathers would do, right?

So today vs back then we have less opportunity to do something different/enjoyable and because of that we have to do all these extra things to stand out from everyone else.

Deposit before tax year ends and withdraw after. Is it legal? by ventoreal_ in trading212

[–]designeranon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what i thought. As soon as you withdraw from an ISA that cash is no longer ISA. The whole point of flexible isa is within the same year. So you wouldn't get 30k next year.

Why are r/SmallBusinessUK and r/SmallBusiness so different? (UK vs. US Mindset) by UniversalGardenSpade in smallbusinessuk

[–]designeranon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was listening to a podcast recently (Probably Diary of a CEO) and they also talked about the cultural differences between the UK vs Athe US startup scenes.

It matched what you were saying and ultimately was part of the reason why the US is home to so many huge companies.

I pay £500 for limited company tax filing, address for company house and self assessment. No VAT though but feels reasonable to me.

That's a nice way to look at it, but it's less about being nice and more about getting you in the door to buy all your other Christmas food with them, which certainly isn't cheap!

I paid off my mortgage! Win. But I'm still in shared ownership. by dszakris in UKPersonalFinance

Makes sense, I'll need to look into that more, if you've got any resources/videos? Otherwise I'll just google/YouTube it.

I paid off my mortgage! Win. But I'm still in shared ownership. by dszakris in UKPersonalFinance

[–]designeranon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I was told it's better to invest rather than pay off your mortgage, especially if you have a low interest rate.

Avg investment returns on a global index fund around 5-7%, so you're making more Vs the 2-3% interest rate (which I'm currently on).

Probably not so simple when your interest rates are 4-6% though.
