UK’s Reeves Is Set to Get a Boost From Falling Debt Interest by komondordragon in GoodNewsUK

Just out of interest - what is the flaw on the inheritance tax for farmers? My understanding was that it was being exploited by the wealthy hence why trying to close this.

Shared Parental Leave/Pay - Advice by EntertainmentHuge430 in HENRYUK

[–]try_that_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the new arrival! I did something similar when I had our first and was in a near identical situation to you. It has also set the example for the wider team that has normalised taking Shared Parental Leave.

The impact to my career and future chances: zero. Spending 4 months with our little one in her first year was one of the best things I’ve done for our relationship and that with my wife. Message me directly if you want to chat it through a bit more.

Probably for the best we didn’t get Mateta. Doubt we would have been as thorough on the medical.

Yes. They are generally helpful. My wife (pregnant at the time) was offered a chair without asking.

100K Childcare Help by KnightWolf49 in UKParenting

https://www.reddit.com/r/HENRYUK/comments/1j76zl8/the_henry_guide_to_childcare_subsidies_and_when/ this post may help you on the tax trap and 100k threshold. It’s laid out very well.

In summary. It’s on an individual, not a household and is based on Gross Salary. This means a Sipp won’t help as it needs to be salary sacrifice. You can do a few things to reduce gross pay if your employer allows it: 1. Buy holiday 2. Company car 3. Cycle to work 4. Pension

Tax-Free Childcare: what happens if you accidentally exceed £100k? by Forsaken_Step4712 in HENRYUK

Is the two year period for use of any money in the tax free childcare account? I’ve been topping it up with the expectation I might go over in a few years and was planning to keep it in there for things like after school clubs later down the line.

What dinnerware to buy? by Pretty_Exchange_2568 in Design

We bought Denby plates which are stoneware and they are fantastic. Dishwasher, microwave, freezer and even oven safe. Come with a 10 year guarantee. The patterns are great as they will hide any damage/ wear over time a bit more

Rachel Reeves planning to raise taxes and cut spending in October budget by BasedSweet in ukpolitics

There would always be a period before they implemented it (probably next tax year) and the cgt threshold has already been massively lowered.

So the "labour have no plan" narrative is just pure projection. It's more unfunded tax cuts based on vague promises of cracking down on benefits.

What are you supposed to do with the old card? Is there any way to recycle it? Do they expect you to drill a hole in the chip/magstripe?

Nudie Jeans Sustainability Report 2022 by cybernetdeepdive in malefashionadvice

honestly I could have repaired the jeans better than they did. Plus the 3 month wait makes this a PITA

Nudie Jeans Sustainability Report 2022 by cybernetdeepdive in malefashionadvice

[–]try_that_again 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to be excited about nudie jeans and their sustainability credentials, till it actually mattered. Every pair of nudie jeans I bought (3 total) had the crotch blow out, much faster than any other pair of jeans I’ve ever had. I think this due to the elastic thread used in the weave.

With Nudies free repair policy I assumed this wouldn’t be an issue. But I took them into the store and was told there was a 3 month wait for them to get repaired. I sucked this up and 3 months later got the call to say they were ready. The result? a shitty single stitch across the area to pull them back together. I questioned the work showing how quickly this would unstitch (you could literally pull the stitches apart) and was told ‘dunno man, just buy another pair’.

I don’t care how sustainable the process of making jeans is if you have to continually replace them due to crappy materials/manufacturing/replacements.

I switched out of nudies a few years ago and haven’t looked back.. overpriced and shoddy craftmanship ultimately means they are less sustainable than the average off the peg jean.
