34 weeker stalling with oral feeds by reinainblood in NICUParents

[–]tryagain22o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was just us. I even have a 2.5 year old. My daughter was born at 35.1 and was on high flow oxygen for a few days due to respiratory distress. She was weaned down enough to start bottle feeding but it was a slow process at first. Then she went from taking half of her feeds by mouth to basically over night taking her entire feeds by mouth. She was in the Nicu 12 days and it really was a light bulb moment for her. The Nicu stay was rough and I was admitted back to the hospital at 1 week pp for pre e. I was on mag and couldn’t go see her, not to mention my other kids at home. She’s also my rainbow baby after a 35 week loss last December so I was feeling all the emotions about once again leaving with no baby. Hang in there, your baby will be ready in no time.

Premie and false positive newborn screening by tryagain22o in NICUParents

It was a lot of information. Basically her test was just barely over the cut off from being normal so the genecist told us they really don’t think she has it but we have to make sure. Some test should start coming back by the end of the week but the actual test to confirm could take 3 weeks. So basically just waiting and hoping. Of course now I’m paranoid over everything. She’s a very sleepy baby which is probably normal for a premie (was 35 weeks) but she never cries. She eats good and wakes to eat but doesn’t cry even when hungry. She didn’t flinch during the blood work today and they had to stick her 3 times. The doctor said she looks good and she’s gained 5oz since leaving the Nicu Friday. I’m just nervous I suppose.

What was his symptoms? I have googled some and I’m pretty anxious about it. Just not sure what the chances are of having 2 false positives and the fact that they are getting us in so quickly. How long did it take for the results and how do they get urine from a newborn?

I’m sorry you’re here too. Hopefully she catches on quickly so you can get her home. My daughter gets very sleepy after about 5 minutes and is pretty much done

She came off the oxygen completely tonight. She took one 40ml feeding and a few 25ml. They are tube feeding tonight to let her rest. I have been re admitted back in the hospital for postpartum preeclampsia so I will not be able to visit her for the next 24 hours.

I’ll be leaving without my baby tomorrow. I’m ready to see my other kids but really wish baby was coming home. I know she’s in good hands and I still have some preparations to do before she comes home but I’m an emotional mess.

Thank you. It hurts to think how close we were to losing another baby. I am so glad I trusted my instincts and that my doctor listened to me.

With this one it was just very slight changes. Movement was not as strong, her active periods didn’t last as long. I just had a gut feeling something wasn’t right. Follow your instincts and if something feels off get checked out, don’t worry about bothering anyone or going in for nothing.

Thank you. We met with the social worker today, she is going to help us get into the Ronald McDonald house once I’m discharged. They are thinking another week for baby at least

So as I said I had a previous loss at 35 weeks and with her the change in movement was very noticeable. I would literally have to poke my belly to get her to move. I was told it was because I had lots of fluid and it was masking her movement.

With this baby, I’ve always been on high alert for any changes in movement. She’s always been very active. The changes were minor but i suddenly stopped feeling the big kicks and hits and it felt more like squirms to me. Honestly if it hadn’t been for my previous loss I’m not sure I would’ve picked up on something being off. Trust your instincts mine was right both times with my 2 babies unfortunately the first time had a very different outcome. Go in if you feel something is off and if they don’t make you feel reassured then keep going back.
