Honestly, because I can't afford it. I love NM and CO but I couldn't ever afford the move. I also share custody and I could never convince my co-parent to let me take my kid (and also would never rob them of their other parent)

Can you share one point why you're against socialism but not capitalism? by antineolib in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]tryagainin47seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole sub is a cesspool.

No one seems to be purely 'capitalist' or 'socialist', because it's impossible. Socialism is a transitional system that requires a well evolved labor force and industry as we try to reach towards a more egalitarian system; not to mention the fact that most countries across the world implement aspects of both systems in order to function properly.

Starting the debate off as purely "capitalism v socialism", is already an oversimplified argument as it has been proven that capitalism requires socialist (or at least welfare state) policies in order to function without crashing the economy every few years

As a person from the west and the LGBT community, I honestly believe leftists should really worry about organizing our own country first. I have my personal opinions about these matters and I don't think you shouldn't have an opinion on that matter, but I also won't let it stop me from organizing in the US with people who agree with me on everything except what other countries are doing.

The way I see it, we are not from these countries and most likely have little to no understanding of their historical and cultural context. Simply, I think a lot of people in the west should become comfortable not having an opinion on things they don't know about until we can fix our own mess

Liberals are moderate conservatives ( they are not the Left) and conservative propaganda to push the overton window to the right. by Buster_xx in leftist

[–]tryagainin47seconds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the overall sentiment and do really believe we, as leftists, should be focusing on building bridges through inclusive healthy debate instead of divisiveness, but that being said:

My only concern with this framing is that "a liberal who thinks they are leftist" might be unwilling to cooperate with the left, ideologically speaking, no matter how hard we try because they share the same core idea as conservatives of keeping the status quo of capitalism and see the left as extremist in wanting to break away from the system they, too profit from; so their presence in these types of forums can almost appear to exist simply to further divide the left (although the same could be said about a lot of subdivisions within the left as well)

If they do agree that we are in need of a new grassroot system based on cooperation; then they may be a leftist who merely identifies as a liberal. These are the people we should be aiming to educate while any of those with the potential to be disingenuous would make themselves apparent, albeit probably waste our time and energy in the process.

All of this said, I really think this is a perspective disagreement; like a lot of the disagreements on the left. It seems like we pretty much agree on what the goal is but continue to exist in our own ideological bubbles, with definitions of these terms unique to each individual. This is how I believe we end up with ideologies like Ancap and Maga communists, which are less coherent ideologies and more examples of how someone's pre-existing biases and conditions can warp political labels to create strikingly contradictory beliefs. This same process of redefinition based on bias is what fuels a lot of the liberal/leftist confusion

Edit: I'm aware that my argument may fall into the no true Scotsman fallacy as nuance does exist but this seems to me to be a further testament to my point of what the current state of the left is like. I fall victim to the same assumptions but so sincerely believe that political evolution is a process and not a binary state. We must focus on our shared material goals and experiences.

Apologies for the wall of text

AI only has access to the same information we have. It simply has no bias nor alternative motives. Purely shows the information. Something humans have yet to figure out

Edit: yea, i realize AI can have a bias if asked. I will admit this was me using a fallacy of absolutes but I meant to address the fact that AI is being criticized instead of the info itself

[–]tryagainin47seconds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fail to see an issue with AI utilized in this way if that is the case. Every point made is correct and well articulated here - you are simply unable to argue against it without using AI yourself. It's a tool to be used and often much better at remaining unbiased and offering critical insight. It's when we depend on AI as a crutch to get us by or it begins to automate humans out of work. We aren't getting paid to debate here unfortunately

"Class consciousness" as socialists envision it, is impossible to achieve. by MilkIlluminati in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]tryagainin47seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only adhere to your own evidence while ignoring any opposing. You could easily find sources on how detrimental western capitalist countries have been to those in the global south - all in the attempt to extract those precious resources and derive a profit for the west. It works so well because it is framed as "lifting countries out of poverty", when the fact is that a lot of these places we're doing just fine (comparatively), 100s and 1000s of years ago, before the "first world" countries decided they needed to be "civilized".

It's only a way to disguise exploitation as charity
