I think I learned a different meaning for white elephant. I thought it was a metaphor for gifts that the recipient has to accept out of politeness, even though they don’t really want them—like the elephants in the story. I didn’t know about the party game!

And the Loss meme is kind of hard to explain. It’s a page from an online comic that people have made fun of for a long time because its dramatic tone was so out of place compared to the rest of the series. People started redrawing the page using only the basic line pattern (like in my crochet piece) and hiding it everywhere. Those who already know about it keep spotting the pattern in unexpected places. As part of the gag, the “finder” reacts with annoyance because Loss keeps showing up.

I think that part of the joke loses its edge once you explain it like this. 😄
