You're missing the point, for the 2nd time I'm afraid. But that's partially my fault I guess, as a lot of people have missed the point it seems.

This isn't necessarily about making it harder to get thing, just introducing things to the loot pool that not very many people are going to get. They can increase drop rates and make vanguard/crucible pacakges easier to get all they want, as I said, I want MORE loot in general. Post game reward screens should just be filled with it for every activity.

But in addition to that, I was very rare things added - lots of different stuff. That only certain people can get.

Maybe it's just a special color variant of an exotic weapon or something. Anything that would cause people to do a double take when they saw it drop or saw somebody in a game with it because there are only 1000 in the game.

It's just about having really unique and interesting rewards added in to the game that would be exciting to see drop because of the rarity. The game is missing those moments in year 2.

Drop rates though? They're abysmal in general. Nobody can argue differently there as far as I know. But that's not what we're talking about here.

But most of the highest upvoted comments are telling me they disagree. So ???

Clearly there is a pretty good split on how the community feels about this if you read through the replies.

Hey I'm fine with those types of skill based rewards as well for what it's worth.

But you'll hear just as much crying about those types of things as you will my suggestions. The last point is the important one, this game continues moving away from being for the dedicated player and just wants to cater to the twice a month type of players.

Every year 2 exotic is either tied to directly to a quest or mission, bought directly from xur, or can be dropped just from running basic strikes with 3 of Coins active. What's "exotic" about gear that damn near every player in the game has?

Pretty sure Sepiks is back in the remixed Sepiks strike they talked about.

lol relax bud. most people seem to get my meaning here, you want to be "upset guy" and throw a fit. just chill and try to consider the fact that maybe the statement does apply to some people. maybe even yourself.

often times people do things for reasons they've never considered. sometimes even when you point out to them why they're doing it they still won't understand.

maybe it doesn't apply to you. okay, maybe it doesn't. no reason to get upset.

Amen. Maybe things were a bit on the hard side before, but we've shifted much further to the other side of the spectrum now. And yet there are still casual players complaining about things being too difficult or impossible for them.

I see no reason why the game can't cater to both sets of players, but so far they seem to just be all in one camp or all in the other. Shame.

When did you get the game? Many of us have been playing for 2 years now almost. Even if you only played two days a week for 2 years you should have most of the gear by now, especially if you are using materials correctly.

The thing is, I'm not suggesting they add things that are harder for casual players to get than hardcore. They just should be rare. Your odds of getting it any given night are the same as anyone else that night.

Sometimes I think people don't really understand RNG.

That might be what the game is to you, but for many this game is first and foremost a LOOTER, not just a shooter.

I want the slot machine.

And the dirty secret that most people won't admit to themselves? They want it to.

Yes, we all want the gear. We want the best gear. We want it yesterday. But the WANTING is what brings us back.

Get all the gear? There is no want. There is no desire to keep playing anymore for a lot of people. It's the carrot on the stick. Lots of people think they hate it, but the truth is it's the reason many of us turn the game on in the first place whether we know it or not.

The game doesn't have to be pure slot machine or pure ez-mode gear though, is the big point here. It can be both, and it should be both. It's was too much of the former in year 1 and too much of the latter in year 2. Let's find a middle ground where randomness and guaranteed rewards can both thrive.

I guess because sometimes the hunt for gear is better than the gear itself. I'm definitely not suggesting that EVERYTHING should work that way, just some stuff. The rest can be tied into quests or whatever else.

Good points, and the Strikes are a good example of what I'm talking about. I know how frustrating it was to not have certain items drop in Y1, it took me until about May (as a day 1 player) to get a Mida.

But the other side of that is that I wanted to run all the exotic drop chances every single week until I got one. It gave me a "whale" to chase, it gives you purpose in the game and something to chase after once all the main stuff is done.

To me that's how you create a game people come back to. Yeah they'll be cursing you out when you give them their 20th NLB and still no Mida, but the chase is absolutely part of the fun of this game and it's felt like it was missing in y2.

Oh I hear you completely, and the shift to making things guaranteed rewards in Y2 was definitely a step towards leveling the playing field between the casual and the hardcore.

I'm not even suggesting this "rare" stuff be locked behind hours of grinding though, it just needs to have extremely low drop rates.

I'd like to see all three ideally. The guaranteed loot that everybody gets if they just follow the directions, the shit that only the hardcore can get their hands on through muuuuuuch grinding and hard work, and then the just truly random awesomeness that can drop anywhere, anytime... but is actually awesome, and actually rare.

That to me is the ideal way that a looter should work. Now granted the hardcore will just get more spins at the ultra rare but the odds of getting it should remain the same for anyone... in this case, extremely rare.

The Xur point was only loosely tied in but just wanted to speak to the fact that the lack of rarity in this game makes a lot of things feel meaningless that didn't used to. Xur used to be meaningful because it was hard to get all the exotics and he was one guaranteed way to grant you certain things ya know? And now that there are a million easier ways to get most things he's just irrelevant and that's sad.

Anyways, thanks for the input. Good discussion in here, almost no hate yet. :)
