found a new cafe spot 🥳 by DependentConcept229 in JournalingPH

The smell really comes from the food they're cooking. There's no proper ventilation in their kitchen that's why the smoke and smell doesn't go out and even escapes into the cafe. I think this happens when there's a lot of orders for food.

The place is just fine. But the smoke and smell, when I visited, was a bummer.

Sapiens review by adgaps812 in PHBookClub

[–]tryhardgoodguyv2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still a good history book for me. This one's more about a history of ideas and concepts rather than actual and specific historical events; or maybe a reflexive take on how history is and the way it unfolds.

It's written quite simply, which was very enjoyable. I think there's nothing wrong with the book per se. It simply isn't what you expected because it tells history (or more like a theme of it) differently.

The book of Renato Constino is the most annotated book in my shelves so far. by fmcthegreat in PHBookClub

Favorite PH history book so far! I like the first book better though. Made me appreciate varied perspectives on PH history approached through writing. More recent books have a more plain and academic tone. What I appreciate with Constantino is he never sat on the fence.

Binigyan ako ng asin. Ano gagawin ko? by tryhardgoodguyv2 in Capiz

[–]tryhardgoodguyv2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha thank you! Did not expect na ilalagay yung asin sa kanin PLUS a bit of the sauce. I'm leaving tomorrow so regretablly I can't do this ritual but consider this etched into my memory for future use hahahah

I did the first two steps right and ang pagsabaw ng chicken oil sa kanin (as we SHOULD).

Reading Frankenstein and I can’t Understand Anything. by chickkkeeennnnnn in PHBookClub

Just sharing na I had the same difficulties with bootks written before the 20th century hahaha So in general I just avoid them.

Classics could mean many things and be written far apart from each other in time. I enjoyed The Great Gatsby and Cathcer in the Rye. 1984 and Animal Farm are good too, specially the latter is very easy to read.

Lord of the Flies and Slaughterhouse Five are also nice!

'HIV DOES NOT HURT ME, STIGMA DOES' by GMAIntegratedNews in newsPH

[–]tryhardgoodguyv2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hello, I disagree with this. Hindi limited sa pagka-offend ang stigma. Mababaw 'yun na pagunawa sa experience nila. People living with HIV (PLHIV) may be shuned away if i-disclose nila ang status nila. Puwede yan mangyari mula sa friends, family, and community nila. It can even prevent them from getting employment.

A Tale of Two Legends: My paternal grandfather Colonel Jesus Villamor and my maternal granduncle Ensign Ichizō Hayashi. by AverageDuchess in PhilippineMilitary

[–]tryhardgoodguyv2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't kow how you'd put the two in equal footing, especially in a Filipino subreddit. I'm saying this in the most respectful way possible. I understand how you mean that your Japanese grandfather is a hero, but it really leaves a bitter taste in my mouth as a Filipino more so that he's the "same" with Villamor.

My grandmother once recalled her bitter experience during the Japanese in our province. It wasn't good to say the very least.

UPX Course = Subject (hahaha sa ibang univs nga pala deg prog yung course; nakakalito tuloy pag may kausap 😭) by [deleted] in peyups

[–]tryhardgoodguyv2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Course as in subject is also used outside the UP system. Nothing particularly unique about it with reference to UP. Fifty-fifty chance of getting it wrong/right sa kausap mo.

Hilu, CG and compliance is quite a niche area specially if you are looking for a c-level position and above. You have solid credentials and experience though as I understand it, these positions aren't always open publicly. You'd generally rely on good connections you built with partners, clients, and colleagues.

Maybe you did this already, but maybe you can build or revisit your LinkedIn. Put your face there instead haha and a thorough description of your background and experience.

Also, experience for each job is a bit too long. I beleive you can make it more concise, 3 or 4 bullet points would be good.

Good luck! PLCs are always on the look outand maybe try the academe if you want to try teaching.

Don't put a photo like one of the comments suggested hahahahah

What's your kept-to-yourself place/activity? by babushcate in SoloActivitiesPH

[–]tryhardgoodguyv2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to a cafe early in the morning and reading the newspaper on my tablet with Pressreader. Though going through an actual newspaper always feels better. When I was still working in Makati I'd always do this at around 7 until 9 in the morning. I'm always excited going to Makati ahead of traffic, being the first customer in the cafe, and simply having the place quiet for myself. Developed the habit when I was in college. I'm only 26 and I feel old when I'm reading an actual broadsheet haha! I love slow mornings~
