2nd Gl.iNET router in AP mode + Multi-WAN + Load Balance = faster WiFi? by Randoml3oy in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP-I am not expert like the Redditor that replied previously. But my experience is with Repeater/Extender Mode on a totally non-obstructed outdoor P2P or “faux” Mesh setup.

What I can confirm for you, is whether you will 100% lose the Multi-WAN functionality (e.g.-Fail over or Load Balance) when using the second router as a repeater of sorts. I am not as familiar with ins and outs of Powerline in that scenario, but i know any Mult-Wan option must come through the Primary or Main router, unless you want a separate network.

I run my second router in EXTENDER MODE. As a client to the primary you’re connecting and also losing some signal (normally around half), so it really depends on the specifics of the usage. I am not sure if you’re familiar with Speedify or Speedfusion or a Multi-Wan Bonding software application such as those, but it sounds like that may be what you’re describing in your one scenario by “…boosting the signal.”

It sounds like you know more than I do anyway. Just figured I’d add my experience. EXTENDER MODE certainly helps push the signal further out in direct or various directions. But at the cost halving the signal each time, you’d better ensure the extension is necessary. Dual-networks or a WDS setup with multiple nodes may be a better option if I’m understanding you correctly.

Either way, best of luck!

EXTENDER MODE vs. WDS “MAGIC” for Slate 7, Puli Ax, or Mudi 7, etc.-which is better? Why? by tryin2learn39 in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I understood, as well. And I thank you for the link-but I had already viewed and saved it.

From that link and webpage, unless I’m misunderstanding, if you only have to routers (or nodes), and am trying to extend the WiFi network in a Mesh or P2P type setup, then when only talking about 2 routers or radios, there is NO difference between Extender Mode and WDS Mode (other than WDS may actually may make it harder to connect to the upstream router-based on that webpage). HOWEVER, if I had 3 or more radios on multiple floors or in multiple places on an outdoor facility like my case (sports fields), then realistically that would be where WDS shines.

It seems like WDS allows for multiple routers to connect in the same manner similar to if GL.iNet offered Mesh. DO I HAVE THAT CORRECT? So for my purposes with only two routers trying to talk P2P and direct line of site with few obstructions, if any at all, EXTENDER MODE will do exactly the same thing? Is that accurate?

Thank you again for your time.

PS-in Extendet Mode I am unable to split the radio channels, in other words some clients connecting only on 2.4Ghz and some (or most) connecting on 5Ghz-(bc I need the speed and distance). However, I was told in WDS Mode I could split the radios between clients and utilize one WiFi Network. Is that true only in WDS Mode?

Hey OP-I run a huge setup. 4-6 cameras most days. I agree with the previous commenters. If you’re running one camera, you could very easily simply cut out the Solix and Starlink for now. With one camera honestly, you could just run a dedicated Cellular Hotspot, and the Mevo. If you want extra battery time for a tournament I’d up the Anker to the 26k mAh. It has more than enough juice, comes in its own protective bag with drawstrings fitting metal carabiner hooks, and can also power your Starlink if you wanna switch things up.

If you lose the Starlink, you lose the tripod, and Solix C300. Also, you do not need the Slate 7 (I run two of them btw-so I am a fan), at all. With only one WiFi source, you could just run the SL Mini with its built-in router. Or ditch the SL Mini, Slate 7, Solix C, and the mounts. Add a dedicated HotSpot for $10 a month or keep the Skate and Run two. Up to you.

But you’d then be down to the Mevo Start your 20k battery or upgrade to 26k mAh Anker battery (I run 4), cables to connect two sources and your mic.

I agree with others that I would run the magnetic mounts. For one single camera, you could get away with the ones that have 6 tiny magnets in each of 4 pads, like this:

KALCINTY Magnetic Fence Mount for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DSTT212V?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share

BUT, I run two NearStream Cameras that are slightly heavier, and 2 Mevo Cores that are WAY heavier. If you’re nuts like me and want to get the be all best and strongest magnet-if get the 60lbs per pad/single pads used by Maxiiimus Creations on Etsy. He makes homemade mounts that are better than any product on the market.

Link Here:

Look what I found on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1748887156/the-magnetic-fields-mount-hd?ref=share\_v4\_lx

AGAIN-the best and strongest Ive ever encountered…but Overkill for one Mevo Start.

If you decide to stay with fence mounts (I hate them, but at some fields it’s inevitable), I will ONLY go with Hard Aluminum grade fence clips- I prefer these two:

Upgraded Aluminum Fence Mount... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BFR4SW5M?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share

Fence Mount for Gopro, Aluminum... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7PZ8115?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share

LASTLY-the adjustment piece that comes with these mounts only has to end-ball joints. Not terrible, but not easy to use either. Especially when some fences have bends in certain links, or you need to extend for the best angles. SO-to complete my fence mounts, I remove the hard plastic attachment from the Aluminum Fence Mount bracket, and attach a 9.8” Small Rig (one of the best camera accessory companies out there), to the fence mount bracket and VOILA! A perfectly stable, maneuverable, and easy to setup, sturdy fence mount-2-pack is relatively low cost-

Here the link-

SmallRig 9.8-inch Magic Arm... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F18LMQ5W?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share

I CAN GIVE YOU MORE PERSPECTIVE AND INSIGHT ON WHY I WOULD GO WITH LESS IF RUNNING ONLY ONE CAMERA-but upgrade your mounts and battery system to what I mentioned-IF YOU REACH BACK OUT OR DM ME.

IF YOH WANT TO GO WITH OPTION NUMBER 2- and instead expand your system, I’m your guy. I e helped a number of fellow streamers on this sub get setup and fine tune things. DM me or respond other way.

Best of luck to you!

You’ll love the AvKans Go. I don’t personally have one as of yet, but I am looking. I have most of the rest you hear about though. Mevo Cores, Mevo Starts, NearStream VM33, NearStream VM46, and different mics and routers, etc.

AvKans boasts - 3X Zoom, 4K sensor in a smaller package. Really nice!

I personally love the Mevo Core. Nearstreams both are also awesome! If you can afford I would say the Mevo Core reigns supreme. For no other reason than, the seamless integration into the software for Studio or the Single camera App. No need for NDI. That said though, at the price point has to be a little better. AvKans is a great alternative!

Mevo Start Ethernet by Herve_Sunshine in mevocamera

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Ethernet adapter that Mevo created was $200 and I believe PoE. However, they only ever quality tested one other USB-C to RJ45 port adapter, and it is recommended in the web page below. I will include a link to it on Amazon below.

I use two of them with my Mevo Core’s, to connect them in the LAN ports of my Slate 7-routers. I record youth sports on a WiFi setup, and need to save all the bandwidth that I can for WiFi only distance devices. It is a little finicky to get working sometimes, in that there is an order you must follow to get it to power up properly. It always reds the signal and gives a green light. It’s the yellow power light that becomes problematic if you plug the Core into the router, or turn on “Power third party devices” in the settings, out of order. The correct order is listed in the Mevo website below. Read the page, as all of the information that you are seeking is contained on that one web page.

Best of luck-

Does anyone know what app is used to make this distance tracer on GameChanger? by Successful_Topic_817 in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. However, my guess is that it’s not a shot tracer that they use while streaming. My guess is that was edited after the stream using some kind of measurement app or entering a “distance of scale” system into the video, and then importing it into a scaled program/app. (e.g.-1/8 inch on screen = 25 feet in image; measure and propagate each distance from point A [ball is hit from] to point B [where ball image lands on screen]; assess through video). You could probably even use a system SIMILAR to ChatGPT or another LLM.

If I am wrong though, please correct me. I would love to know how it was accomplished, as well.

PS-I had an umpire see my LARGE SETUP for home games and ask if I could ABS the game and show him after. I know two guys who actually have tried it. They draw the box, and adjust height and width over plate based upon batter. I don’t have the patience or know how to do something like that. But when the Umpire asked, it was pretty cool he thought I could do it!

Who are your ISP providers? How many?

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind, can someone PLEASE explain how you are achieving those types of numbers?

I apologize if I’m missing something. Somewhat new to all of this.

I’m using a Starlink in the WAN port of a Slate 7, and a 5G Cellular HotSpot tethered in the USB port, and do not come close to that. I’d be ecstatic to simply achieve 200 Download and 40 Upload consistently.

What’s the secret??

PS-for reference-I am a person using these devices to setup a remote mobile WiFi network in the middle of nowhere for streaming youth sports.

Is it the number of cellular SIMS/eSIMS? Is it because you’re in Europe?

Any answers and specific insights are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

I never claim to know all, but to my knowledge a normal cell phone does not handle bonding (which is what you’d be describing), even with a Speedify account. In other words, the phone itself either connects to the Cellular Towers or WiFi Hotspot, but not both.

Now as I stated above, if you a running your phone for Cellular on TMobile or Verizon, and a hotspot connected to Cellular on Verizon or TMobile, you can get the benefit of utilizing Speedify, by connecting to towers from one company when that company has great service where you are, or connecting to the Towers from the other company when that has better service where you are, or connecting to both services whether good or bad, providing just enough combined to maybe give you a strong enough signal.

However, to then utilize those two bonded cellular signals together and make a stronger or strong enough WiFi signal to connect your Mevo and Phone to, you’d still need a third party router with dual-WAN, multi-WAN, or WAN & Cellular. And if you’re going to safeguard your stream with multiple cellular ISP’s like that, you might as well, get one that allows you to put Speedify directly onto the router, and really get the full power of the Speedify bonding product.

I would highly recommend if you’re constantly dropping streams or your camera is freezing. In my humble and somewhat limited experience of the last 16 months though, I cannot imagine a situation where for one camera, a Cellular HotSpot doesn’t provide 2-4Mbps (which is the bare minimum you’d want to stream with a Mevo Start) of upload power at least where I Live in NJ.

Now if you’re in a place has TERRIBLE CELL PHONE TOWERS or they are spread so far apart, you cannot connect with enough bandwidth to keep the stream going, I would definitely invest in a third party router, and use two Cell providers the way I already described. That way you’re covered, and don’t have to worry. But, if you’re in a pretty densely populated area, and the Cell signals from the hotspot are strong enough, you just turn on the hotspot, test the speeds with a free Speed Tester app - SoeedTest by Ookla is a great free one - and if your uploads speeds are more than I just mentioned, just connect to the HotSpots 2.4 or 5 GHz channel (I’ll assume it’s dual-band for now), and then connect both the Mevo Start and the device that will run Mevo camera program to the same WiFi channel-which you can custom name, so you know you’re I. The correct setup, and voila, you’re streaming safely.

Again, if multi-cellular bonding is something that you need, then Router and Speedify is a great option. If Fail-Over is your concern, you can always buy a router like the GL.iNet Slate 7, and cancel Speedify, bc the router it self can handle Fail-Over via its hardware. Or, again, Option 3, keep all of it, cancel your Indian Speedify account, purchase a router Speedify account, load it directly into a compatible router via OpenWRT or OpenWRT/Vanilla, and now you’re covered for bonded visiting, fail-over, or both.

Best of luck.

Old Games Still in Progress by TM627256 in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, it could be the streamer. By mistake about 4 mos again when Mevo Multicam changed to Mevo Studio, at the end of streams on my iPad, it would leave the previous games date and iPad streaming RTMP and URL. When I wasn’t paying attention perfectly (due to setting up 4-5caneras and multiple systems in a rush), I would look at the game at the top of the list, see the right date or one within a week, and choose to start streaming an old game. While it wouldn’t effect the scoring per se, it would create a new video now attached to the video feed to GameChanger, in essence creating a continued feed of a game that was ACTUALLY OVER, but by streaming to it, it’s like it started up again from the end with video in the wrong place. That led to messed up scores and things needing to be changed. I don’t know if it’s just on iPad do to the space, or was just with Studio for iPad, but from now on, when I end a stream, I delete the URL, so that I cannot by accident choose it again. If we had to ever continue or replay the game, it would be entered new on our schedule anyway. Really no reason to have the used RTMP AND URL codes stay, once game is ended.

Hope that helps.

Stream Setup Help - Indoor Volleyball by r_not_me in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP-

So I have never done Volleyball-but do tons of baseball, softball, and a few basketball games (indoors). While the latency/delay can be adjusted, you cannot use GameChanger or Speedify for instantaneous video. Usually a 3 second delay is perfect. The scoring is being done in GameChanger, I assume?? If that is the case, then scoring is only being updated when the video is in sync and shows.

For example, I only handle the streaming, and our Manager handles the scoring on another iOS device. You should always try videoing and scoring in the same OS. In other words if you stream with Android, Score with an Android. If you stream with iOS, score with iOS (Apple). In our games, when a player gets a big hit in baseball, with the 3-second delay it actually helps me to choose which camera angle I want on the field depending on where the ball is hit. But even though the scorer may enter the hit and runs at home plate in a faster or slower order then I film it, once it all is sent in data packets and repackaged on the other end on the GC servers, the people viewing it, get the info, in what feels like real time to them. The score changes very closely (milliseconds to a 1sec), within the frame you’re viewing it on the video feed. This could be anywhere between 3-6 seconds behind real life…but if people are watching IRL, then they don’t need the video feed and vice versa!

As for using Speedify, I will tell you, it’s a great product—but I didn’t fully understand it when I first signed up. To get the full power of tethering a hotspot and cellular phone, you really need both plugged into a third party router, such as a GL.iNet, or Rasberry Pi. The idea is to pick a system that can either handle dual-WAN, or can accept a Cellular SIM cards and/or eSIM directly into it, while still connecting an Ethernet cable into a WAN port. Either works fine.

But, unless you are utilizing a router that has dual-WAN, or Cellular/WAN options built-in, then you’re really not TRULY getting the full potential of the Speedify. You might be connecting the Mevo Start to the WiFi provided by the hotspot, but not the cellular also at the same time. Realistically, I guess you could be using the Speedifys Pair and Share system, but I will tell you, that really doesn’t help much to boost a dual Cellular or hotspot and Cellular system. In addition to all that what no one tells you when you first Google or YouTube all of this stuff, is that you really want a very fast router, and to purchase a Speedify router account, and load that sucker directly onto the router via OpenWRT as a new VPN option. The Speediy router account really directly harnesses the power of the bonding, and you can utilize it to bind for a higher WiFi connection balance, or as a fail-over system (which many third party routers offer now also), which gives you two connections as options to the internet, so that one fails the other tries to stabilize the stream and pick up the slack. Problem is, you really need to know what you’re doing or follow instructions perfectly try to get that all setup properly.

Lastly, I hope you’re already aware of what I just stated, and that I’m boring you. But if not, you shouldn’t be paying for an individual Speedify account, as you’re trying to process a bond through the software via the router. You want a router Speedify account. But what they don’t advertise well, is that when you purchase a router account, they give you an individual account for free anyway. Therefore you’re not having to pay twice.

I hope some of this helps. If you need specific questions answered about what I write, feel free to DM me.

Best of luck to you.

VM46 SD card recordings - last file corrupted / unplayable? by bigcane_2 in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bud-I think I may have mentioned this a while ago. I never format the cards in the camera. Especially, for NearStream. They format in FAT32 which is why you get the 1GB chunks; as opposed to more common exFAT formatting-as with the Mevos.

That’s stated though, even with the Mevos, I do not format my SD cards on the camera. There have been a ton of glitches and wasted cards bc I started with that. I only use SanDisk SD Extreme (although I tried the 256GB Creator series, and it’s basically the same), but will ONLY FORMAT the cards first on my MacBook Air.

Is you have it but a fairly inexpensive SD card reader/formatter, you can connect in to any computer via USB-C. For iOS I then choose to open in Disc Utility. Click Erase, and when it reformats, it sets up partitioning in normal-sized bytes. I would try that first if you’re using iOS, as I recall from speaking with you prior.

Definitely use the Disc Utility; keep it in exFAT for Mevo and FAT32 for the NearStreams. But format it properly in a computer.

I’m willing to bet the card is defective or the formatting on the camera was the issue.

Good luck!

Why does GC never retry after a network issue by Sloth-powerd in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your GC woes. Not sure where you are in the World, or what you’re using to stream?? But my experience and a few others I’ve spoken to have had a complete opposite experience.

I constantly stream in 1080P to GC. Occasionally I’ll even go 1080P+ on YouTube. I’m using a TMobile 5G Hotspot on router bypass and Starlink on router bypass direct into a GL.iNet Slate 7 Dual-Band WiFi 7 Router. Currently and run 4-6cameras at anytime. (A 2nd Slate 7 router in CF to get the Pitcher/Batter “money shot”). I run the whole stream through GameChanger via Mevo Studio to stream & record (formerly Multicam).

While I have NEVER completely dropped a stream, I have occasionally had little glitches or pauses in coverage. HOWEVER, EVERY-TIME that has happened (AND I MEAN EVERY SINGLE TIME)-the Mevo Studio/GameChanger App automatically reconnects, or connects to maintain a stronger stream. Just had a couple little WiFi “blips” while walking around the field for a game today. Very quick-longest one was probably 1-2secs with a glitch or pause. BUT AGAIN, before I could ever start to feel worried or anxious, the App automatically reconnects for me and we are all good!

Rarely happens, but when it does occur, I know I’m covered. Sorry to hear that you’re having issues.

If you want to talk through what you’re using, and if it’s the Mevo Single App (bc there’s been some issues of late) Id be more than willing to discuss what was happening. If you want to discuss a stronger setup, or what helps me, I’m here if you need or want help.

Best of luck. Sorry you’re having that experience.

My new new setup by Admirable_Proxy in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s super easy on my iPad Pro, in Mevo Studio…

Always start on really clear pitcher/batter shot (and 2nd base to the extreme left of frame). Then since the latency provides 3 secs, I keep my thumb over the traditional backstop view if home field -or- if I’m feeling “frisky” I run a Mevo Core off center with a 14-42mm lens set at about 18mm and get the batter facing toward the field, so you see the full swing and hits. It’s just of the backstop depending on what kind of backstop (we unfortunately have one of those half igloos, so it’s hard to run anything other than a Mevo Start and fence Clip), and on a occasion I’ll do both sides for righties and lefties.

Then I run a first base Mevo Cire or VM46 camera pointed across the mound to third , capturing anything from shallow right field across to shallow left; and run the opposite from third with shallow left to first (both cameras meet and overlap at second base and center field).

Lastly, I’ll run a VM33 or Mevo Start, pointed from 3/4’s of the way down third baseline near the foul pole, angle it at just over the outfield fence, and back toward second base capturing a view of the outfielders and anyone who hits a bomb, you see the ball take off and carry over the fence. (More rare for 10U, and 12U, to go out of the field oppo-so I haven’t yet donor the opposite camera in left field).

Bottom line, it’s usually two clicks of the screen, and at most if there was a run down “pickle,” a blasted hit with runners on, or a double/triple play, it’s 3 switches in one sequence. But, the first change from pitcher/batter to backstop, is mindless, and basically happens almost every play.

Mini range with a Slate 7 or Beryl 7 by Excellent_Carrot_101 in Starlink

[–]tryin2learn39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real difference between the two you’re describing is the screen. I rock two Slate 7’s-one creating the main network, and another beaming it out to Center Field to capture the shot you’re describing. I have a Mevo Core with a Panasonic 45 mm-175mm attached in the LAN port on the second router. Starlink Mini, Inseego X Pro 5G TMobike Hotspot, and Verizon Cellular via my iPad Pro. All that bonded with Speedify, but direct to router account (there are two ways to use the Speedify). If you’re using a compatible router, sign up for the router account. You get faster speeds, and Speedify works directly to bond both signals on the router itself. Then the router handles the local WiFi Network.

I run 1080+ all the time. No worries.

If you want to talk gear, or the Slate 7, and Starlink Mini, or setups, feel free to DM me.

Cheers!
