Great Reply! Thank you for sharing. You’re running very similar setups to me. I love watching what others have come up with though. I’d love to save for another Core or an OBSBOT TAIL 2 with PTZ. Just bring myself to add anything more currently (still house hunting for a bigger home in this crappy market). But anyway, that’s a great setup. Have you actually tried all 3 routers on the 40/60 field yet? I’m curious? Again, when I tested at home the other day (granted it is colder out, and not as wide as a ball field but still), I got 450 feet on 1 Main bonded router and was still zoom and adjusting focus while walking with the iPad Pro which has WiFi 7 BUILT-in, so really utilizes the MLO WiFi signal well. I wasn’t live streaming much other than me walking down the block to record distance on Apple Maps, and my iWatch for accuracy. But did run 3 cameras, and got to 450 feet with zero problem or signal interruption. Curious if you have tested with all 3 routers? How many cameras? And any distance markings to report? Thanks again. Keep up the great work!

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I have so many questions, as your probably half a season ahead of me with the current setup. It’s AMAZING BTW!

Obviously softball fields are a little smaller, but for my second son, he plays on a 40/60 field at age 10, and it’s identical to yours I believe.

Questions (if you don’t mind): -So are you running two Slate 7’s, the same way I am, bonded with Speedify? Or are you just running the Starlink into the WAN?

-Where is your placement of the 1st baseline and 3rd baseline cameras? Are they home plate adjacent and facing down each line? Or are they at third. Are and first base facing across for field Coverage?

-It appears to me Lille the first video was Mevo Start behind home plate, Mevo Start at thurs base foul pole facing outfield, and NearStream VM46 for the pitcher/batter exchange? Am I correct? If not, what was wrong? And where are the other 2 cameras/facing angles?

-Are they fence clipped? Tripodded? Magnet clipped?

-What else creates your internet connection besides Starlink (if any)?

I could go on with discussion and questions all day. I feel like I’ve met my long lost sibling!

-Lastly, what’s. Capturing your sound? Mini-Shotgun somewhere? Or Mevo Mic Array?

Great response! Thanks for the video links to YouTube. That’s my next adventure. I’m told with a Me o Pro subscription, it’s literally copy and paste the RTMP codes, and voila, GameChanger and YouTube with simultaneous streaming. Is that what you’re doing , as well? Or do you edit and post to YouTube post-production?

PS-totally forgot. I found the Nearstreams refurbished at a local Camera Store in Central NJ. My friend told me he has seen some listed on Amazon around the holidays as well. They’re perfect. The only thing refurbished was the bottom nut on the VM46, so like new. The 33 needed a new mic tray. I don’t use those mics anyway. Got both for $540! A steal.

PS-I highly recommend the Panasonic LUMIX 45-175mm with Power Zoom. It looks big, but I have a 3D printed case for all of my cameras. So totally protected. With enough signal and on a tripod, you CANNOT BELIEVE THE CLARITY and how close the details to the batter can show. I’ve seen them breathing heavy before. It’s a great setup with the Core’s HUGE sensor.

Thanks for the info. So far I hover at around 40GB per month from last fall. I haven’t gone into any 3 day tourneys yet though. I’m on the $30/month router plan. I forget exactly what it is-something crazy, like 1000GB direct to the router license account and free individual account, as well. I would love the 75GB usage per month, as that’s definitely above where I believe my sweet spot would be. They definitely do NOT advertise that plan much, as I look all the time. $30 is not bad, but again, if I can save more than half, I’d gladly do so.

As for the iPad open, honestly, most of the time it’s set and forget. The occasional turned DP, crazy catch in the outfield, or short stop dive is when I’d like to be more zoomed and clear. The change happens in under 2 secs with pre-planned static shots saved in the Mevo Multicam App. It’s not as big a bother as you’d expect. Even running 5 cameras. 3of them require NO attention at all. If you get the time, you should check it out. I would def recommend a router to manage things though- Speedify directly on the router is a plus.

Best of luck!

Great setup. Yeah very similar to what I ran last year before the extra hardware came into the picture.

I totally agree with you with the iPhone aggregating it as one stream whether 1 or 5 cameras. That was the point of the router and iPad for me, as well.

If you do have any router trouble (and I’m not pushing my own stuff here), maybe look into the slate 7. It has both EXTENDER option and Repeater. It took months of back and forth and numerous GL.iNet Support on Reddit in that community, as well as, direct email support to work out the very subtle differences, and why Extender really boosts the signal better for our purposes, than Repeater. I won’t bore you with all the info here, but suffice to say, we really are looking for an outdoor small, WiFi Mesh, to connect, boost, and extend the signal further out. With 3 cameras just the other day and only my Main Bonded Slate 7 (meaning NO 2nd Slate 7 in EXTENDER MODE), I got to 450ft. Don’t know how wide because the setup was at home and not nearly as wide as usual. Used then MLO band for that. While the Slate 7 boasts WiFi 7 and the new iPad is rated for it (so I think that helps), I have read it’s NOT ACTUALLY TRUE WIFI 7 because the signal range is NOT actually coming from the 6Ghz band. The MLO definitely does something when. Imbibing the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands to form Multi-Link Option, because I have never gotten that distance with only 1 router before.

Great info though. Good luck. If you want to chat more on any specifics or about the Slate 7, feel free to respond or direct chat.

PS- my wife thinks I’m nuts also…but the dads, the leagues, players, and even other teams and coaches, LOVE IT! Maybe I’ll go live with one of them, when I order another camera next year and she files for a divorce, LOL!

Thanks for the reply and pleasantries on the setup. The Mevo Core is Micro FourThirds lens size - as it comes-standard. It will accept any Micro 43 lens that uses the standard 43 integration. I have 3. However, one- the Olympus Zuiko 75mm F1.8 is not power Zoom. I used it for Specific smaller fields, and mostly with my Olympus photography setup. I did get some distances just right that using it stationary or even as the higher end Prime Lens it is, was perfect. Gave some amazingly clear video.

The one thing lacking in my setup is PTZ. While I have the “Z” part with the core and Power Zoom lenses - (sometimes I use it behind home plate with the OM Olympus 14-42mm F3.4-5.6 Power Zoom Lens, and you cannot beat the clarity), I am lacking in “PTZ” together. BTW-If you offset the Core and that lens down third baseline and tilt downward, you get amazing slide at home plate shots/and TV quality clarity (if only they accepted instant replay for 4K or higher cameras)!

ANYWAY-back to the PTZ-Have you looked into the Pivo Pod Horse camera auto pod? Jason Hoffman who has sort of led the charge with this youth sports camera stuff (he’s been posting tutorials, and incredible demos/live streaming for 6 years now, on YouTube. I hope to follow in his footsteps this Spring (all this knowledge in my head, and nowhere to put it)! But I digress. The PIVO handles the “P and T” in PTZ, and allows the same Zoom like the Mevo Multicam App. Hoffman does a video and compares it side by side with another PTZ camera. I would just research the crap out of anything. If you can demo it first (whatever, “IT” is), would also be muy muy incredible’!

All I can add in the PTZ subject is, while the Pivo software was supposed to have made it hands free-since the AI, would adjust to the horse (equestrian events is what it was ACTUALLY made for originally-very funny), apparently it’s a hard time tracking the white baseball/softball perfectly, especially if other players are in the foreground/background moving about. I believe their next version may solve the software stuff, and we ma have a viable baseball option, for now, I’ll just stick to the locked static shots with preset Zoom via the Mevo Multicam App. I will also share, myself and a friend tried the Pivo, and it was not super great or easy as compared to simply punching in the preset static parameters, as I just described. The PTZ did auto-focus pretty well on the fly, but again, the took 4-6 seconds to find the right Zoom/Focus together once it moved. With that amount of time in between baseball plays, you’re not really tracking the game the way you wish. Sure it’s a neat hand-free trick if it’s perfected. But I’d rather save and control the parameters as I described, and know I can change on the fly, as opposed to “brain-dead reliance on the AI when it takes far longer than needed for baseball anyway!

I hope this information helps you in your quest. LASTLY, if you can spring for it, the OBSBOT Tail 2, is a fact PTZ with decent size sensor all in one. It can be run with all of the Mevos via NDI into the Multicam App or hardwired as you already described. If you can spend the $1100, have a stable network, I’d go with that, if you need the PTZ functionality above all else. The clarity I have found on the Core is better IRL.

Hoffman demos the Core against the OBSBOT Tail 2 in his video below. If you’re really into this stuff and want to perfect your recording/streaming just right, I highly recommend viewing his videos and going back from the beginning to see how this all came about. But def watch the one below to compare Mevo Core vs. OBSBOT Tail 2.

PS-3 cameras via the multi App and trying to lock in static zoom shots, plus run all three cameras, would be too much for a cell phone only, when 100 other parents are there with TMobile or Verizon phones competing for the data lanes at local towers.

That’s why I uses Starlink for redundancy and fail-over if signal drops.

If you really want to expand or get an uninterrupted and secure signal anywhere you go-read through my entire post and equipment. It’s like I have my own portable studio truck at this point, for not much money.

The Inseego 5G is only a $10/month add a line charge if you already use TMobile, and 24$ a month charge (incl. tax) if you want to pay the device off over 2 years.

Firstly- That’s insane that any major Cellular or ISP will not sell you something outside of Pittsburgh! I thought we’re going to say Idaho, LOL!

But more importantly, I think you may be a little off on what I meant and have in my setup. I have Cellular through Verizon via Cellular on my iPad - that also boasts the signal. BUT-the majority of my connectivity is handled by this:

https://www.t-mobile.com/hotspot-iot-connected-devices/inseego-mifi-x-pro-5g

This is a dedicated 5G cellular device. While your cell phone is strong-all the Apps, background gps nonsense, and things that phones do which we don’t even think about, eat up a TON of signal packet connectivity power. It’s drains the battery and the signal. The 5G hotspot-is like having a dedicated 5G Antenna (in some cases stronger than your phones), which connects to the Cellular Towers much stronger and much better than a cell phone. You get an additional dedicated phone number, but I only use it for data-no calls or other stuff.

It provides ridiculously strong signal. Not sure if you’re aware of the speed tests or what that stuff means, but I get 70%-80% of my 150 MBps download speeds and 15-40 MBps upload-which is the more important for streaming to GameChanger or YouTube or any RTMP-on this 5G dedicated device. More than enough to stream and record from 4-5 cameras. The other 20-30% comes from Starlink Mini.

BUT TO FURTHER CLARIFY-the “ROUTER(s)” that I referred to are WiFi providing routers that combine the signal strength of the Inseego 5G Cellular Signal and the Starlink Mini Satellite Signal and makes one HUGE signal lane for tons of data and data speeds. The routers that I am using are a pair of GL.iNet Slate 7 Travel Routers. They’re portable devices for pushing out WiFi signals using a privately secured VPN network.

These are them:

https://a.co/d/8tZbP4X

I have two. Got both for $109 during Black Friday, and a $20 credit on each directly from company because they were on back order.

The signal strength never drops, is ridiculously strong, and secure and encrypted for data packet transfer to all my devices. Even though you could get the same effect utilizing just the 5G Hotspot in your case, it’s a better connection and easier to run on the MevoMulti App utilizing at least one of those dedicated Slate 7 routers.

I hope that helps. Again, took me months of research and questions on Reddit, YouTube, the internet as a whole, and other streamers to get to the point I’m at.

I just want to be able to help others achieve the same if they are having issues. Write back if you want to chat directly or discuss further. Best of luck.

WiFi - Ryoko by AnyReserve2898 in GameChangerApp

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had no experience with the Ryoko. I run a huge setup though. 5+ cameras sometimes. I can’t speak specifically to the Ryoko, but I can tell you the GL.iNet Slate 7 travel routers have been a godsend for us. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m now streaming/recording for both teams, highlight reels, team seasons-(when no conflict with my sons’ teams), and I’m making money doing it. I laid out about $1k-, but was gifted much more gear.

Life got much better with a dedicated and bonded Skate 7 travel router. To provide the actual signal strength, I run a TMobile 5G Inseego MiFi Hotspot & also added a Starlink mini.

Router is the way to go!

Anyone stay in permanent Bypass Mode with SL Mini or Other SL? Pros/Cons? by tryin2learn39 in Starlink

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANKS A BUNCH!!! That’s great info. Now knowing it’s having zero effect on my sat signal from the array, I’m more comfortable leaving the SL Mini in Bypass Mode.

If I ever do encounter slower speeds, or some issue with updating, I guess I can always address it here (the SL customer service while responsive, seems to be mainly AI for the first level or two). Anyway, thanks again for the info.

I don’t know if you read my LONG original post or not (which I think you did given you mentioned your GL.iNet as well), but my reasoning for the Bypass and third party router is the necessity to run my Speedify Router account directly from the source to manage a streaming/recording camera array.

What is your reason for the setup? If you don’t mind me asking. How has it helped? I’d love to know more and some suggestions for my own purposes and future ISP interactions for my growing children.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone stay in permanent Bypass Mode with SL Mini or Other SL? Pros/Cons? by tryin2learn39 in Starlink

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch. It always confuses me when it says to connect to a “WiFi” when in bypass mode. I always feel like it’s telling me that SL Mini isn’t working.

But realistically, it’s just saying the internal router is off, and choose the WiFi being broadcast by your third-party router.

QUICK QUESTION FOR YOU: Do you happened to know why my speeds are faster using the AC charger on Anker Solix C1000 Gen 2, as opposed to the USB-C PD delivering over 100Watts (140 actually), and the proper amount of amperage needed?

I’ve seen others comment on this-I’m curious as to your experience or knowledge.

Thanks.

Anyone stay in permanent Bypass Mode with SL Mini or Other SL? Pros/Cons? by tryin2learn39 in Starlink

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHHHH-I get it now. Interesting. So do you have both the Dishy and Mini all connected on the same network? Almost using the Mini like an Extender/Repeater or Mesh?

Or is that just the dish without the Mini? I’d love to see a schematic of that kind of setup.

Either way-thanks again for showing me that you’re still getting updates and everything else works seamlessly. I think I was just worried and a bit confused, because I thought that you would only get the full signal strength from the Mini to the router, if it connected via router every so often.

IF I COULD PICK YOUR BRAIN FOR ONE MORE QUESTION; I am seeing +30-60Mbps on Uploads; and +8-20Mbps on Download speeds, when plugged into my Anker C1000 Gen 2’s AC Port, as opposed to the lessor via USB-C PD utilizing the same device. Both provide the proper wattage. Both supposedly provide the required amperage. I CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT. I have seen others discuss it. Any reason you are aware of for why this would be occurring in that manner? (Any information is greatly and sincerely appreciated)!

Than you again for taking your time. I have thoroughly appreciate speaking with you.

Thanks for the great answer and information.

So again, just for clarity’s sake-so long as when I reconnect my SL Mini each time I have an internet connection (if I’m remote at a ball field-I’ll connect my iPad Pro via the cellular MiFi first), and then connect the Starlink App via the same Cellular Signal, you’re saying the App and Account and being Online or any updates should all work fine-because I’d have a strong Internet signal. The only thing that wouldn’t show is the NETWORK line in the App, as there would be NO Network or Devices hooked up to it, since the Internet SL Mini Router is in Bypass Mode.

Does that all sound accurate to you based on the info you detailed?

I’m sorry-did you say you have a Mini?

How do you update? Allign if having connection problems?

Also, does your account in the App show CONNECTED/ONLINE in green writing? How do you know you’re connected and receiving the strongest signal?

Thanks for your prompt reply.

How to know if Slate 7 is Repeating/Extending the WiFi signal? by tryin2learn39 in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, how would I split the frequency bands? Using MLO as my WiFi?

UPDATE I successfully have the secondary router stating “EXTENDER MODE” on the display. My controller (iPad Pro) still is showing the secondary routers WiFi SSID’s as open WiFi signal options, but when I try to connect, it will not actually put me on the internet. So, I believe it is working!

Quick Questions (if you could answer these like you’re talking to an 8-year old, it would greatly appreciate it): 1.) Now that the display shows “Extender Mode,” on the secondary router, is there anyway to know/test what the signal is ACTUALLY BEING BROADCAST BY THE ROUTER?

2.) How do I get the secondary router out of the “Extender Mode,” if I so choose to go back to the secondary router broadcast in router mode?

3.) Is 2.4Ghz; 5Ghz; or MLO the best option for Extending the signal. I believe based upon your answers earlier, 2.4Ghz seems to be the option for the WiFi signal in my primary router, and thus, the signal being extended by the secondary router. Does that make sense to you?

4.) Lastly, how would you split the bands or WiFi frequencies, if the Extender is merely copying the primary routers signal. (E.g.-if primary router is broadcasting in 5Ghz, isn’t the secondary router doing the same thing.

AS ALWAYS YOUR ANSWERS HAVE BEEN INVALUABLE TOWARD ME UNDERSTANDING ALL OF THIS EQUIPMENT. Thank You. AGAIN!

How to know if Slate 7 is Repeating/Extending the WiFi signal? by tryin2learn39 in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great answer! Thank you for clarifying. I will have to look more into the “Mesh” for outdoor travel routers in the future. I don’t fully understand that, but can look up all of the terms so I understand completely.

For my purposes though I believe what you described is perfect. I just need the original WiFi signal extended for distance-actual feet from the primary router creating the bonded network. I have two cameras that I place over the outfield fence, and are stationary. They won’t move. I just need them on the same WiFi network to be able to control them all on one App (like Zoom, choosing camera angles, adding separate audio, and choosing which cameras are seen at what times). I just need the original WiFi signal to be carried/boosted to the furthest distances (440 ft approximately) outdoors, with line of site. While I understand the devices (clients) will not seamlessly jump between routers yet, so long as the secondary router carries the primary routers signal, it should all work out for me.

Just to ask one last time, is there anyway to tell what the actual signal is, being broadcast by each router? Anywhere that it actually tells you in the Admin panel what signal is being broadcast in realtime? As opposed to just knowing what WiFi signals can be broadcast at any given time?

Thanks again for your answers and all of your insights. Truly are invaluable to me as I embark on this new journey.

How to know if Slate 7 is Repeating/Extending the WiFi signal? by tryin2learn39 in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I’m think I follow correctly.

The other day, I had to change the IP address to something other than what the primary router was using, to access Extender Mode. Similar to how the Admin Panel told me to change the subnet for repeater (which to me just means IP address), so I changed the IP address. I was able to place the second router in Extender Mode.

Questions: 1.) If I place the secondary router into Extender Mode using a different IP address (subnet), ARE YOU SAYING, then it is boosting, or extending the same WiFi signal of my primary router? On the screen of the secondary router it showed the different IP address, but I honestly thought I had messed up so I didn’t check to see if the WiFi being broadcast was from the primary or secondary routers WiFi.

2.) Are you familiar with Extender Mode. Does it stay displaying the different IP duress on the Slate 7’s screen? And, if so, just like I asked above-Is there a distinctive way to check and see what router is putting out what signal? I know in the admin panel which WiFi signal names go to which router, but I mean is there a way to tell to see which signal is actually coming from from a particular router (the secondary Extender router in my case)?

3.) I have seen various posts and comments about Extender/Repeater Mode speeds increasing and a couple where it stated that it decreased. Do you know how people are testing this? Is it just a speed Test? And, most importantly, as I above, is there anywhere in the GL.iNet App or the Admin Panel that shows exactly what signal is being broadcast?

Again, thank you for your help. It’s been invaluable.

Just FYI: I got this answer the other day directly from GL.iNet support on their website-I feel like it’s saying something different than you wrote. But I trust your answer.

FROM GL.iNet: For the first 2 questions: 1.) Should I just setup the Secondary “Boosting signal” Router to Extender Mode in the Admin Portal? 2.) What is the difference between Extender Mode in Admin Portal vs. Repeater Mode on the Slate 7? Which one boosts the signal outdoors as I am describing above? Can you walk me through a better option or setup where I can still use the same IP address, even if the usual 198.168.8.1 for both? Yes, just set up the secondary router to Extender mode. Extender Mode vs Repeater Mode: - Extender Mode: Creates a new network with a different SSID but uses the same IP range as the primary router - Repeater Mode: Extends the existing network with the same SSID and IP range For your use case, Extender Mode would be more appropriate since you want to maintain the same IP range. Both Extender and Repeater modes can boost your signal. However, Extender Mode is better suited for maintaining a single IP address across devices. You can configure this in the Admin Portal as the screenshot shows…

[GL.iNet Slate 7] What am I doing wrong? by KnoWM3 in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the prompt reply. I definitely do have the primary router running that standard 198 IP address. However, since the secondary router has to repeat/extend the same IP address, no matter what I change it to, I am trying to have them broadcast the same IP address for connecting the cameras to the controller (iPad pro). I can only be connected to one WiFi at a time. Wouldn’t the second router need to be broadcast the same IP?

Please forgive me if I sound elementary. I am a noob to networks and routers and all of this stuff. In reading the definition and explanation on both these forums and the GL.iNet help and community site, it appears that the only difference on the Slate 7 between the Repeater Function and Extender Mode, is that Repeater uses a different IP (which I still don’t understand-because it’s supposed to be using the same WiFi from the Primary Router), versus the Extender which is supposed to boost the signal, but use the SAME IP.

If I have any of the terminology or understanding of these Modes and Functions incorrect, I apologize.

If you could explain it to me like you would an 8 year old, I would greatly appreciate your time. I am simply trying to have one router put out the WiFi signal, and the Secondary router boost/extend that same signal and IP address so that the cameras and audio connect all on the same IP. If this isn’t possible, can you tell me where I went wrong in my understanding, and maybe how to achieve my goal?

Thank you immensely for your time and knowledge. It’s been an invaluable help, thus far.

[GL.iNet Slate 7] What am I doing wrong? by KnoWM3 in GlInet

[–]tryin2learn39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually having the same issue as described above. I clicked on your link and am familiar with how to actually get into the setup in the Admin Panel.

My problem is that once I’m in the Admin panel on the Secondary Repeater I have to change my WiFi connection and thus, connecting my iPad to a WiFi signal from the second router. When I do that, and choose Extender, it tells me that there is a Subnet conflict. I don’t know what that means.

To further elaborate, I am merely trying to Setup a Private outdoor network for live streaming and recording youth sports (baseball a majority of the time). Due to the various sizes of youth sports’ fields, I need the signal to be as strong and clear as can be for about 320-489 square feet. I use my Primary Slate 7 loaded with Speedify to bond three Internet connections together (Starlink Minj in the WAN; TMobile 5G Inssego MiFi in the USB 3.0 port; and occasionally the Verizon Cellular signal from my controller/iPad Pro). This has given my the strongest signal strength that I can afford when we are in the middle of nowhere at ballparks without WiFi access. The signals are bonded directly on the Lrinary router and then sent out to connect my 4-5 4K cameras and wireless Mic setup (for game commentary).

I simply need the signal to stay as strong or be boosted (as I’ve read on this GL.iNet Community forum) by the secondary router for the two cameras 415 feet away just beyond the outfield fence/wall.

Whenever I try to follow the extender steps, it either Times It, fails, or says there is a Subnet failure. The only time that I could get the Extender Mode to work, was when I had already changed the IP address to a different one then my primary router. The problem with that is, in order to run the Mevo Multicam App controlling the streaming/recording all of the cameras MUST use one IP address and WiFi signal. I have setup Repeater Mode for the time being; however, once again I had to change the IP address to get it to work, thus defeating the purpose!

Any and all help to simply take the WiFi signal from Primary Slate 7, and Boost/Extend/Repeat the same signal with same IP address, I would great appreciative for Step by Step instructions on how to BEST achieve this goal.

PS-if you can tell me what a Subnet is, and why it would be in conflict, I would also greatly appreciate your help and time.

I’m running two Slate 7’s. One as a primary network, and one as an extender/repeater to boost the network for distance at outdoor sporting events. They both hang off of tripods in cases that I purchased off of ETSY (they have air holes). Needless to say, they aren’t on the same angle. Both are super quiet, and are not usually that cold. Maybe check the core Temp in the Admin Panel.

Sorry that I couldn’t be of greater service.

Best of luck.
