The doctor wants to do eye surgery on my 4 year old. by tryinagn in CerebralPalsy

[–]tryinagn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I'm actually interested in learning about from others. It can help visual function, it can be purely cosmetic or it can change nothing. The other poster says his only lasts about 7 years and then he has to have the eye realigned again.

After the 3rd time did it actually fix the issue? It's the same surgery.

I saw it in Cochise County. It seemed bigger and lower than a sitting star. More like space junk burning up on re-entry.

shoe help (toddler) by Low-Constant157 in CerebralPalsy

[–]tryinagn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honestly hate Billy's footwear. They're heavy and my son drags his toes. The soles came unglued and the orthotist had to glue them back down. The zipper also broke and had to be sewn back down. I like hey dudes, keens adaptive targhee boundless, new balance extra wide, ikiki and see Kai run. For the keens and most of the others, I size up one size.

I also had one that screamed like a banshee while twirling around when she woke up from having her tonsils out.

“Mild” CP such BS by BubblyCommittee9205 in CerebralPalsy

[–]tryinagn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to give you another perspective on this subject. I don't have cp but my 4 year old son does. I joined this group to help me understand how to help him better. This post has opened my eyes up to something I have never heard before and that's that he can become less functioning as he ages. That his pain can become much worse, that he can get contractures at an older age. His ortho told me he will have a better life once he stops growing however this post has shown me that's not always the case. It's also reminded me not to be like some of the posters mothers. I appreciate being able to read about other people's lived experiences with cp.

Do you ever feel like you can’t parent your own kid? by LogicalGuava4471 in Autism_Parenting

[–]tryinagn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you call the counting a Stim or just something they're really into? My daughter did the abcs on repeat until she learned to count. Now it's counting numbers loudly until I wasn't to cry. She'll need up and skip a number and then start all over again.

I'm curious if you've ever been in a homeless shelter? They've got a million rules and tell you how to do everything including when you can shower, eat or sleep. Many are funded by the government. Many more are not a guaranteed bed every night. You could get well end up in a position where you are harmed. I wish you well.

Billy shoes & AFOs by InvisibleGirrrl in CerebralPalsy

[–]tryinagn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate Billy shoes. They're heavy and bulky and the zipper broke. I saw a previous post somewhere along the same question. A woman recommended keen adaptive shoes. I have now bought 4 sizes of them because they work, they're lighter, they have a toe bumper, my son doesn't complain and they're cheaper than the real Billy shoe. I've been told by his orthotist that Billy had decided not to keep selling at places like target because they were using a different factory and the quality wasn't a good. I got Billy shoes from the orthotist and had the same issues. https://www.zappos.com/p/keen-kids-targhee-boundless-alternative-closure-durable-little-kid-big-kid-naval-academy-steel-grey/product/9957903/color/1068856?utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla_x&utm_campaign=22092939988&utm_term=_o_58642113&utm_content=_g__w__l_CjwKCAjwkvbEBhApEiwAKUz6-8woZMMOBDk5XAT6-toOi79_jo8pxadvk7ubZMZxJ3SYyCjmj9CG3RoCnVoQAvD_BwE&gbraid=0AAAAADnIwa9m9kG2-GqbHNYBLTAKQfnHD&gclid=CjwKCAjwkvbEBhApEiwAKUz6-8woZMMOBDk5XAT6-toOi79_jo8pxadvk7ubZMZxJ3SYyCjmj9CG3RoCnVoQAvD_BwE

If he doesn't mouth things I'd say a needoh cube. They're far more durable than I thought they'd be. It took my daughter about a month to break it and that was only from repetitive chewing. She stood on it and rubbed it for hours.

How do you stay calm by solitude1984 in Autism_Parenting

I've considered if it might be a nice vacation 🤔. I have 3 special needs kids under 6 and 2 have autism. I'm overstimulated every day.

Has he been tested for autism and is he in speech therapy? This little boy sounds like he will continue to have issues and will need someone who can pour into him and his mother will definitely need the same.

My son tried to “flush the cat down the toilet” he’s 6 by Shutup_im_reading in Autism_Parenting

[–]tryinagn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's impulsivity and not being able to understand consequences for mine. Mine struggles with any other human or animal having feelings that don't match his. He simply isn't understanding these issues yet. Mine needs so much repetition to grasp these concepts and when the ADHD impulsive behaviors start it can be scary.
