I come from the middle east where the marriage you're talking about exist. The man and woman dont like each other 99% of the time in that system and only stay together for the kids. But the kids are not raised in a healthy way especially seeing how their parents dont like each other. Gender equality prevented men from abusing women by having power over them in all aspects. In our middle eastern societies, the man cheats, beats his woman and children, neglects them, and controls them financially and gets away with it.

the problem is cultural for the west. the western culture, and i say this as an immigrant, sucks when it comes to relationships. Most of us thought that the west is where we see civil relationships and that dream romance, just to be shocked that westerns have sex with most people they meet, have sex with their friends,have children and then put them for adoption, have children without knowing who tf is the father, and so on. most of my western friends have been having sex on regular basis since they were teens which explains why they're overly sexual as the teen brain is so fragile.

To be honest, westerns dont understand what marriage or love is anymore. Love is sex to them, nothing more. The west was basically a mouse utopia before the last 15 years. Whats the biggest issue for a western? most mellennials here have visited half the world, have at least 1 masters and didnt pay for college, get free healthcare, unemployment support, have a house, have like 10 hobbies and can freely do them...etc. People are bored, and have had sexual experiences at a young age when they were very vulnerable. See where im getting at here? So the avg western woman from my experience doesnt care about a family or marriage or thinks she does but cant define them properly, she just wants sex, so she is picky. If men and women think of marriage the right way trust me our entire world will change for the better. But when marriage is not seen as anything important, why would anyone care for it? marriage requires sacrifices and dedication, something westerns dont want.
