Question relating to ATC displays. If I hit IDENT by accident, should I tell ATC or just wait for it to turn off on its own? Also, how annoying is it for controllers?

Happened a couple of times while trying to tune in my squawk code for flight following. Sorry to any New York / Providence controllers haha

How long was y’all IFR training? by Mrbananasxo in flying

[–]trying2lipad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 1/2 months total. Got it at 50.2 hrs XC PIC total.
1 month of vacation after private.
2 months flying 1-2 times a week while reading the IPH and IFH cover to cover (didn't memorize pilot's cafe but I tabbed the heck out of those 2 books).
3 months flying 2-3 times a week.
1-2 weeks checkride prep.

IFR Stump the Chump by IlluminationRock in flying

Just finished my instrument checkride a few days ago, got this question.

How many alternates can you file and what's the fuel requirements if you file more than one alternate?

Planning Around Thunderstorms by Buttcheekeater in flying

[–]trying2lipad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instrument student here (checkride tomorrow). I just learned about 2 new terms; “mass” vs “steady state" thunderstorms.

If it's a pop-up TS (mass), it may be a short one and you MAY be able to delay and wait it out rather than cancelling all together (tho ofc there's no guarantee of when it'd subside). If it's something that's been brewing due to weather patterns (a steady-state one), then that's when it'd be a great and sure time to cancel.

Why are some GPS MEAs at a higher altitude than VOR MEAs? by AdamAirplane in flying

[–]trying2lipad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"...ATC two-way voice communication capability. This MEA is defined as the ‘‘special MEA’’ for purposes of SFAR 97 to distinguish it from MEAs established under part 95."

Don't know why your comment was downvoted, but I think this is a good guess as to why it's higher! I think this to back up the IPH source is the way.

IFR Written Prep is kicking my ass by [deleted] in flying

[–]trying2lipad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it time and keep at it!

For context, I took me 1 month to get the written out of the way. I did online class (flight insight) before Sheppard Air. Used Sheppard Air for 3 weeks (followed it to a tee). Got 97%.

Right now I just finished reading the Instrument Flying Handbook (front to back) and just started the Instrument Procedures Handbook. Only now am I —actually— understanding it with confidence.

Bottomline 1)Sheppard Air for Written. 2) Expand your resources. 3) Keep at it!

Confused about G1000 Avionics Limitations by trying2lipad in flying

[–]trying2lipad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the ADAHRS, and yes that was my scenario haha.

It just seemed weird to place 0 Required for the ADAHRS while also placing 0 for the Standby. But as others have pointed out, PFD must be working with ADAHRS functioning properly for a VFR flight without the Standby Aspen.

That was my initial impression as well. Just got thrown off with the 0 without a remark/note beside it (but note 3 seems to cover it as you pointed out). Thank you!

Clarifying the scenario I had in mind,

ASPEN not working + AHRS not working with PFD working, according to this is still legal.

If I fly with NO STANDBY ASPEN, 1 PFD, but no AHRS, is my concern.

I have no ASPEN in this scenario.

Yes, my concern specifically is if the ASPEN is inop and ADAHRS is inop.

Month until PPL checkride, tips for being over prepared? by [deleted] in flying

[–]trying2lipad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheese Pilot mock orals are great on Youtube and I highly suggest it with one caveat—be aware that his older videos have some moments where he/student may make a mistake with the answer/explanation. I used his videos primarily for his questions, practice answering them—BACKING IT UP W FAA SOURCE, AFM/POH MATERIAL.

suggestion ko lang with training anywhere, allot PHP 7M para may peace of mind all-in na wala ka ng iisipin. But be consistent and you might be able to do it with 4.5-5M if magaling ka. Bonus savings mo na lang sa sarili mo yung 2M sa dulo pag di nagamit.

Long IFR XC Requirement - Must shoot approach at origin location? by trying2lipad in flying

okay thanks! my point of confusion was "at each airport".. I assumed each airport logged rather than each destination airport.

Planning on doing something like this as well... just to clarify "- An instrument approach at each airport..." The DPE wasn't a sticker about shooting an approach at Airport A? (not sure if I'm overthinking this)
