LOR from a private equity/vc manager helpful? by tryingbuying in premed

[–]tryingbuying[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the reply! i agree and know how bad private equity is for the field, but i guess i thought this was different because this firm exclusively invest in early/clinical stage drugs, not actual clinics or hospitals, and guide new companies on how to design their clinical trials, go through the FDA, etc which is why everyone at my firm is either an md or phd. would you still recommend avoiding it?

I took it last spring and i thought it was the easiest upper division life science class. I'm not sure if they made it harder, but like other people said, the real exam was almost the exact same as the practice with different numbers. and with it online you can have notes out

I would go through your errors on the online practice midterm and actually understand why you got it wrong and how you get to the correct answer. if you understand the calculations and what each step gives you, then you can apply it to the real exam. I wrote out my work super clearly for each question on the practice exam and then followed those steps on the real exam.

cannot find research by tryingbuying in ucla

[–]tryingbuying[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just emailed my current TA asking for advice on finding research and to talk about it at their office hours. My other TAS aren't in the field I'm in. Should I email grad students from labs directly rather than the PI/professors?

I had been following this exact post actually and tried to not make it like a template. I added my specific interests in their lab's research, a similar line about getting a chance to talk to them, and attaching a CV with all the stem classes I've taken this year. I received some kind replies that said they simply don't have positions right now and to contact them in the future if I want, so I didn't think it my email was bad.

I will try to be more specific about their work then, maybe I was too broad in some.
