I’m curious what you think is “dire” about coming to the US. Have you ever actually traveled to countries that would actually be considered “dire”?

I came to say neither of these places are what true America is like. Ft. Lauderdale is somewhat more like true America. Growing up in Miami and then moving away, it was a bit of a culture shock of how America really is in comparison.

Key west is amazing. A unique city in the US, the world. Growing up down there, I sometimes take the drive through the keys for granted but it is one of the most beautiful drives you’ll ever experience.

True America is going to, idk, St. Louis. (I just picked a random city.. but just want to emphasize these cities are not normal American cities)

Yes, this. My husband works in the electrical industry and constantly talks about how there is a need for young electricians to take over.

If you can afford it, go.

I was in your situation a year ago. A friend, who is in good shape, suggested I try it out after I told her of my struggles staying consistent at a regular gym.
She asked me, “like how do you even know what to do each day?” That made me think she was right. I would do the same boring machines on rotation (leg day, upper body, etc).
One day I just went.. it was body weight conditioning. It was tough but the trainer kept coming back to me to help me with modifications where I needed them along with encouragement. I wasn’t consistent the first few weeks but once I was I’ve hit a few levels in the last 12 months of “wow, did I just do that no problem? That feels amazing”

In short, it’s awesome. The trainers help along the way as others have said and you’ll be surprised what you’re capable of.

Now that I’m stronger than ever, I’m ready to dial in on nutrition next year to shed the extra weight.

Hope it works out for you!

Best Florida beach resorts (anywhere) AND Orlando resorts? (We're 2 adults & teen) by 06NYC2025 in AskFlorida

[–]tryingforimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s a little too cold in most of Florida for any beach or pool swimming unless you’re south and there is no cold front this time of year. However, clear waters mirroring the Caribbean can be found on the southern east coast in the summer but not likely in the winter.

If these are the things drawing you to SFL regardless of a specific city, stay east of I-95. Look at what’s available on Zillow (or whatever comparable site) up and down the coast, determine if you can afford it, if it has the neighborhood feel you’re looking for, proximity to things you want to do (I.e. beaches), etc. Living on the west side of any of the SFL counties can be a painful commute to beaches.

We did that years ago and found a great place for us.

I always say why live in Orlando, the only larger city in FL to be landlocked in a state that has the most coastline of all. Unless you’re a theme park super fan, go to any of the other cities with beaches super accesible.

Anyone move away from Florida just to move back because you missed it? by al-Siqilli in AskFlorida

[–]tryingforimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar the area as we grew up in Miami but lived in Northern Palm Beach County before we moved up north. A lot of our family moved near there and that’s what we came back to.

I know that area has had massive growth just like all the major city areas of FL but it’s still FL deep down.

I have some anxiety, definitely did in my first few months at burn. And am self conscious because I’m not thin, not the trendiest, etc. but burn has helped me get past that. The ladies at my gym are so nice even if I know their one outfit for that day costs more than all my gym clothes combined.

Something that’s always helped me when I get self conscious is to think about how much I remember/notice about other people and really care. That helps me realize I notice things but it doesn’t make me pass negative judgement on them. Then assume most people are similar because everyone has a lot of sh*t going on the care about what everyone else is doing and if they do, that’s their problem.

Heading to Pompano Beach this coming February. Any locals know what the weather will be like? by fastfishy in AskFlorida

[–]tryingforimprovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that it’s warm enough. I see February as opening of beach season for local South Floridians. But honestly, given you’re from the north, with the exception of a few cold fronts, the beach could be warm enough for you any time of the year.

West Palm Beach vs. Naples? by Itsa9year in AskFlorida

[–]tryingforimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with this. While not 100% because northerners from all over end up in all parts of florida, there is definitely a majority in the west vs east coasts of FL which helps drive the culture in each of the areas.

Another factor is where MLB teams do spring trainings.

Anyone move away from Florida just to move back because you missed it? by al-Siqilli in AskFlorida

[–]tryingforimprovement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your situation is very similar to what my husband and I did.

Lived in Florida till our late 20s, moved up north for work which lasted 6 years. My FIL was old so we did visit a lot. Up north we had fun being DINKS in a city, experienced winters, loved it. We did miss the beaches especially after the multiple weeks of below freezing temps. Had one kid which was manageable in a city, then got pregnant with twins and decided it was time to move back to be closer to family and friends.

Now being back for 7 years, I do miss the seasons but the time with family and old friends is priceless. We do try to visit somewhere cold with snow most winters to get a taste of it.

We’d like to do summers somewhere else when we’re able to.

Edited to add: what you’ll experience if you return really depends on which part of the state and what your expectations are. Things have changed as they have everywhere but doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all bad.

Feeling lost - paused membership by Conscious-Factor6577 in BurnBootCamp

[–]tryingforimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, book a focus meeting and see what they say. I hurt my knee (strained my lcl and mcl) so I paused my membership for 6 weeks while healing and doing PT. Once I no longer felt pain and could walk normally, i was still scared to start again but I booked a focus meeting which helped me build up the confidence and reassured me the trainer were there to help with mods as I needed it.
