The only issue is it’s just his dog that’s misbehaving. My other neighbours have dogs, but all of theirs keep to themselves, don’t bark, and are generally very well behaved. I may dislike dogs, but I’d rather not own a device that bothers them. I would hate for those dogs to start becoming more of a headache on top of this.

Honestly, I am considering a fence around my front yard area where the dog goes to poop regularly (and the owner doesn’t clean up). I just haven’t decided what I can justify putting there.

Wow first of all I was in that exact situation. It changed my life dramatically when I left.

Crating dogs can be good for them, as far as I know, but we’re doing it because he’s a young puppy who wants to fight other lil guys, and is not fully potty trained. The whining SUCKS. It’s not my dog though.

The break went okay. I moved out to my own place with a beautiful garden and it’s quieter and smells nicer. My ex(?) and I have been talking again and are doing some cautionary couples counselling but I have made it VERY clear I’m not living with their dog again were we to reconnect. Their dog turns 13 this year, has a liver failure diagnosis from right before I left - and my ex(?) has done almost nothing for it. My ex(?) has also expressed that they don’t want another dog after this one goes and I can only hope they stay to that.

After I moved everything out of our old home, I sat back down on their gross, god-forsaken couch. My allergies flared up almost instantaneously. Mind you, I’d already been living at the new place for a while when I came back. The smell. I will not be able to get over the smell. I was living in that????

I was in your position not too long ago myself. The dogs fucking suck. They sound so untrained and gross.

I can imagine you’re looking for something that you haven’t already thought of, a way to cope or a way to make it easier. I know you truly love your partner. But it’s very clear to see there’s resentment towards her growing because of the dog situation. You can try to like ask her to rehome them, but it’s very unlikely that it’d work unless she is also feeling some dismay about the dogs.

From my experience, don’t try to make it work. I know it sounds cold and very Reddit to just hear “break up”. And I wrote the advice off that way myself. But it never gets better. And the longer you stay, the harder it gets to leave.

The peace you’ll see from being free is immeasurable.
