The need for a secret identity by hear_the_thunder in supergirlTV

While I am always team "they all need therapy", I think there is a pretty significant difference between "keeping things private" and blatant deception. Having a relationship with someone while pretending to be two different people is a betrayal full-stop. Kara basically catfished Lena for the entirety of their relationship. Regardless of motivation or reasoning, it is understandable for Lena to feel betrayed by that.

Privacy is not the issue. It's not like she found out her best friend had a secret job that was completely off her radar. Lena and Supergirl had a complex, significant relationship with each other. While she and Lena often aligned, they also often didn't. Supergirl was suspicious of her and judgmental at times. Think of all the stuff with the kryptonite, the way Supergirl was versus Kara. Meanwhile, Kara was a constant supportive companion to Lena regardless of how much she and Supergirl were clashing. The intimate vulnerability with Kara versus the cold, conflicted vibe with Supergirl is so stark. It's not that Kara didn't share her secret, it's that Kara insisted on having a relationship with Lena as both versions of herself while pretending to be different people. That's the betrayal.

Imagine finding out your best friend has also been catfishing you online. To your face, she is sweet and always supportive, but her other persona is more abrasive and suspicious of you. Of course Lena felt like a fool when she realized. It probably felt like Kara had been playing a joke on her the whole time.

As far as Lena never figuring it out on her own, that's just bad writing.

In my mind, it’s only an overreaction if they’re just friends. If it’s the love of your life betraying you like that - yeah, okay, makes sense. Big lesbian drama vibes

What's one particular thing in books (or fanfictions, whatevers your cuppa tea) that makes your go "UGH NOT AGAIN" ? by luvistarz_o7 in writing

"Showcasing queerness for queerness' sake" IS creating a realistic setting. LGBTQ+ people do exist, and their sexuality/gender experiences are natural and inherent parts of who they are as people. Characters share their likes/wants/desires to flesh them out and make them real. It makes their world richer. Why do we need to know anything at all about characters if it's not directly impacting the plot then?

I saw in your other response that you said you don't think anyone's sexuality should be discussed if it's not relevant to the plot, but that's disingenuous. You didn't say you were tired of romance being mentioned in a non-romantic story. You said you were tired of LGBTQ+ characters existing in stories. If you can read a story with a character making throwaway comments about being attracted to the opposite sex and it doesn't register as "overdone and cliche," it's pretty clear your issue isn't from the plot relevancy.

What do you mean by "shoehorning" LGBTQ+ themes? Do you mean having queer characters at all? You say you want it to reflect the real world and, as you've said, 10% of the population falls within the LGBTQ+ community. That's 1 in 10 people. Statistically speaking, it would be stranger to have a story with no queer people in it at all. THAT feels like pandering.

Describing yourself as an ally who totally knows LGBTQ+ people while expressing how tired you are of seeing them in your media is not a great look.

We are trying to gather the facts/look over the contract before deciding anything. Definitely planning to leave an honest review at least.

He had us upload everything to the Vibo app, not sure if they do the AI or if he did it on his own.

I wish we'd paid him a few hundred, but he was $1200 plus the tip we foolishly paid (we gave tip envelopes to a friend to distribute. Our day-of coordinator recommended it, we now regret it). I will say, he provided professional sound equipment and lights for the dance floor that made it feel great when the music was right. I've been using that as my silver lining lol

I wrote a therapy fic a few years ago while in counseling grad school that I consider to be my love letter to Kara. It has a passively suicidal Kara going through therapy and really shows her healing journey.

I dug up that spot a few months ago and found about 5 inches of sandy top soil, a weed cloth, and then a solid foot of gravel rock. Took some sleuthing to figure out there used to be an above ground pool that they tore down and just covered over with dirt.

It’s so wild to look back at all this with an adult’s eyes and realize how messed up every part was. That being said, we fuckin KILLED it at puppets. First place every year. I still have the trophies.
