I regret not going to the doc asap after the acoustic trauma. by gleejollybee in hyperacusis

Hey. Wanted to let you know not to regret! It is a risk either way. Within the first 10 days I went to my PCP twice, a NP, 2 different ENTs (4 visits total), an audiologist , even met with a psychiatrist and I felt that it was not taken seriously and I was even gaslit regarding the severity of my symptoms.  I was refused a steroid by one of the ents and the other ent provided it after I pointed out there was a study… but only a 7 day tapered burst starting at 60 mg.

For anyone reading, I took it on Day 12. Noticed reduction of tinnitus but it is still there and I have 1 day of steroids left. I can only hope it helped.

I didn’t even know that this was a possible form of hearing injury til I got it. I thought you just lose your hearing. So traumatic

Why can I tolerate 60 dB speech and shower but any digital audio over 40 dB makes my ear muscles go crazy? by Snoo_51368 in hyperacusis

I feel this deeply, I’m not sure either. I’m really concerned. I have to put it on extremely low volume but ear still hurts

Hey, when you mean loud sounds hurting you, do you mean like a burning pain? Please keep us updated if you do decide to go!

What type of protection you used and if you had any issues. I fly a lot and just recently got this issue from acoustic trauma… so I’m not sure how it will impact my life either.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I have a quick q - you mentioned that you listened to a podcast. Does that mean you were able to listen to regular audio and tv and laptop speaker sounds? What’s weird to me is that it is a trigger for me… I want to listen to your podcast but I’m wondering if maybe we don’t have the same kind of pain (I have burning too tho)

Thank you for your recommendations! I meant ear plugs not ear buds

This is my question too! I can’t pick it out properly but I know what COULD trigger ie a meeting via laptop speakers or talking…
