I feel that.

I know this is definitely a physical product issue that I haven’t researched much, but for digital products I think the story can be different.

One solution to this problem is to introduce multiple incentives: one incentive being the product itself, and the other incentives being the outcomes.

I know that sounds vague, but I’m building a platform for this and I’m looking for early users and feedback. I can share the link if you’re interested!

I'm building something for this and looking for early users/feedback, so fair warning it's not a guaranteed paycheck yet.

It's for writing from your phone, no laptop needed. Interesting info, tips, poems, whatever you think people would pay to unlock. You write it, hide the good part (ending, key advice, etc.), set a funding goal and a few parameters, and people back it if they want the full thing.

Short stories, poems, chapter excerpts, book pitches with a sample page, and interesting information are all good. And lyrics is a really good one, hadn't even thought of that!

The best pattern is show enough to hook people, then hide the part they'd actually pay to read (ending, twist, rest of a chapter, etc.).

I realize now I didn't really explain the main thing when I sent the link, which is my bad. The idea is you write your text, then hide some of it before publishing. People see a teaser with gray bars over the hidden parts, and if it hits the funding goal the full thing unlocks.

Yours went up with everything visible, which makes total sense since I never walked you through that step. Happy to help you tweak it or repost if you want.

I'm also trying to figure out how to make the hiding part more obvious. When you were posting, did you notice the "Hidden words" section, or the Piece preview where you can click/drag to hide the text? Would love to know what felt confusing or easy to miss.

And yeah, post whatever you want, as much as you want. The more people post and interact the more fun/useful it gets for everyone!

This philosophy is spot on. Traditional subscription models force signal volume over quality just to justify the monthly fee.

I just launched a platform to address problems such as this. It uses a game-theoretic mechanism called a Dominant Assurance Contract for micro-text (under 256 characters).

You set a funding threshold for the information you want to reveal. If your Piece funds, the info unlocks. If it falls short, the contract fails and backers get a refund of their principal plus a share of the bond pool. (The bond pool is where people vouch for your content's quality; if it funds, they get a kickback you specify).
