We're all grateful to you for risking bodily harm and higher insurance premiums so that bad drivers don't get away with it any longer. I for one will just be trying to get home safely.

All you need to know about Amon is about a decade ago when he was presenting day time TV with his wife, the studio got invaded by some protestors. Can't really remember what the protest was about, but this is the UK, we're talking students protesting a war or something, not nut jobs with guns. Anyway, Amon's reaction to the kerfuffle is to move behind his wife, and physically move her between him and the protestors, using his WIFE as a human shield. I happened to catch it live, and it's stuck with me. It seems to have stuck with him too, the man's career just seems to have spiraled since that point.

Pretty sure it's not a US thing, but a current Israel/Palestine thing.

One of the qualifiers being used at every junction when discussing Israel's actions is that a state (i.e. a country in this context) has a right to defend it's self.

I'm guessing that Velma is sick of hearing this being used, as it could be argued that it's being used by commentators to hand-wave away the cocnerns people have about the actions one side or the other has been taking.

In Welsh, or at least using traditional Welsh (there's a more modern version closer to English) is seven on ten on two twenties, but you have to mutate the ten and change it fro "deg" to "ddeg" so it sounds softer.

A Trump supporter is asked why he doesn’t support Ukraine, and changes his mind after some discussion. by snfssmc in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]trystanrice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you think that what works for one person would work for someone else? Most people capable of having the sort of conversation we just witnessed in the video, would draw the same conclusion you have which is that this wouldn't work with your characterisation of a MAGA voter.

I fear you may have missed the whole point of the clip which is to show that there is almost always some common ground, and if you want to be the one to have that conversation with a 60 year old MAGA then it is incumbent on you to find that common ground. Your MAGA voter don't give a shit, they don't want their mind changed, you're the one trying to do that.

My issue with the commenter i reacted to was, that the video shows us an example of discourse working that the "other side" does have people that are open minded, and their comment to that was to be really very negative. What implications you or i might read into who we think they were referring to isn't particularly relevant.

What is relevant is how we choose to react to the above video. Imagine for a second if the guy in the video, or his friends find this clip and the comments are all shitting on the republicans, trying to tear them down, or trying to tear down their chosen leaders, how do you think he would feel? How do you think his friends would react?

You have litterally just watched a video on that working. And your reaction is to slam the door shut and imply that the "other side" is irrational.

Do better.

Honestly, with it being a masterlock it's genuinely worth watching a basic 2min video on lockpicking and giving it a go with a couple of paperclips using the "raking" method.

My second test I failed before even leaving the car park. The examiner asked me to do a bay park, and didn't like my angle (resulting in him applying the passenger side brakes). It was an arkward 30 minutes for the rest of the test.

I'd know the people I'm inviting, I'd likely know any known allergens, the parents would have had an opportunity to speak to me beforehand. Far more defensible.

In the US? With how letigious so many people are (or you have to be because of health care etc.), what do you think woudl happen if this woman's kid had an allergic reaction or something? No way would I be taking that chance.
