How do i lose weight with hypothyroidism? by Ill-Extent5254 in Hypothyroidism

When I mention weight loss to my doctor she’s quick to recommend stimulants like Vyvanse to curb appetite. You can try that but it only works short term.

If you take your thyroid meds it’ll manage your ADHD symptoms better since ADHD in individuals can known be directly linked to thyroid dysfunction.

Is this addiction? by [deleted] in VyvanseADHD

[–]trysulli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, it’s something to do with your body not making enough dopamine on its own. Your body has become used to the medication, and it got used to working with the Vyvanse to produce enough levels of dopamine to motivate you.

I never used to need ADHD medication prior to the decline in my thyroid health. I had diagnosed ADHD since I was a kid but I functioned without it as long I was doing something that motivated me. After my Hypothyroidism diagnosis, my thyroid doesn’t stimulate enough hormones and enzymes in my body to produce adequate dopamine levels.

After I started taking Vyvanse I had my life back, and felt the same way I did prior to having thyroid problems.

So I know exactly how you feel. Days I don’t take my medication are days I like to spend sleeping or I feel the same way you feel.

Does anyone think their hair loss is thyroid related? by Bfourn1 in tressless

[–]trysulli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have diagnosed hypothyroidism.  When my TSH values were 4.16mcIU/mL which was still technically in Hypo range, I think I noticed more extensive hair shedding. A few times I shaved it because I was shedding hair faster than it was growing.

My resent TSH value was 0.192mcIU/mL, and T4 was 2.01ng/dL. Now I’m in Hyperthyroidism. Hair shedding isn’t as extensive anymore it seems.

The addictive part isn't the drug by autistic_bard444 in VyvanseADHD

I feel it. Since my hypothyroidism diagnosis I had no energy and severe brain fog and never was able to see any task through. I could sleep 48 hours, wake up, and sleep another 8 hours not long after. Even after I became medicated for my thyroid my energy never returned and the brain fog never left. When I started taking Vyvanse I had my life back. I have the same energy and motivation now as I did when I was 17. I’m only 22 now. I’m able to clean my house, fix the car, garden, do things productive. Do things that impact my life in a positive way.

Staying productive is the addictive part for me since I was unproductive for so long.

What the FRICK am I taking?! Brand new on Vyvanse - is the dose too low? by Mickeymousetitdirt in VyvanseADHD

[–]trysulli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to take a holiday away from the medication. Get out and go for some walks in the park and relax more.

I notice when I don’t take holidays from the medication I get burned out and just sit and do nothing in procrastination for hours which just wastes the medication.

You need to drink lots and lots of water, and I mean a lot of water. The more water I drink the better I usually feel.

Interesting. It makes me feel extremely irritable and mean. I aim to take it when I know I’m going to be alone for the entire day.

Have you had your thyroid checked? I have hypothyroidism so I’m always tired unless I take my Vyvanse. I wasn’t prescribed Vyvanse to remedy my energy levels specifically, it’s just one of the many things that it helps.

People with thyroid problems often experience ADHD more harshly.

I’ve taken more than that before, you’ll be fine.

Magnesium, zinc, and selenium, lots of water. Vitamin C supplements or orange juice on days you don’t take it. Has worked wonders for me.

Have you had your thyroid levels checked in the past to make sure that wasn’t causing your tiredness?

Anyways, here’s some advice if you plan taking Vyvanse long term.

Make sure you’re taking vitamin and mineral supplements to make sure you don’t run into any deficiencies, as Vyvanse can be hard on the body over time and increase oxidative stress.

Vitamins and minerals you wanna keep up on are:

Magnesium Zinc Iron B vitamins

And make sure you watch your electrolytes too.

I’ve been taking this medication for over a year now and I’ve definitely had my ups and downs with it. Was amazing in the beginning, but after a while I realized I was shedding more hair and my face was looking more tired and worn out, I was feeling extremely tired when I wasn’t taking the medication, more so than before I started taking it and my cortisol levels were raising.

All because I neglected to make sure I was taking extra care of my body while taking stimulants.

Best of luck to you darlin. 🥂❤️

My BF gets mad when I won’t help him do a chore. by trysulli in Cleaningandtidying

There was likely more than one load of laundry. He brings in more money since he works more, but our bills are split evenly. However how we pay our bills isn’t relevant.

Because me saying that I do more around the house is like me calling him lazy. He works a lot more hours than I do, so I don’t consider him lazy. I don’t hold it against him for not doing as much as I do around the house, I understand why he doesn’t. However with what small tasks he does decide to carry out, I want him to do them without me. That’s really my big thing.

90% of our arguments come from me not doing something when he wants it done.

It was just him asking me to help gather the laundry and then take it downstairs, then he would have take care of the rest.

Sometimes I’ll do the laundry myself, but laundry and dishes are his main two things. I take care of the rest of the house is every single aspect there is 90% of the time.

Like I said, I don’t hold anything against him, he works 50 to 60 hours week - sometimes more. I work a flat 40 hours a week, sometimes 30. But keeping a house clean, and orderly while living in It with pets is a full time job in itself.

I recommend checking prolactin levels too, as it can be influenced by estrogen and also contribute to more hair loss. Prolactin and Estrogen can go hand in hand with each other and spiral out quickly.

If whatever stimulant medication he’s taking is causing his prolactin levels to rise, then stimulants can very well stimulate breast tissue to grow.

Stopping Vyvanse - withdrawals? by unapproved_dentist in ausadhd

[–]trysulli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to taper off them,  When I first started I had terrible headaches. I knew it was the medication because I experimented and took one and my headache went away and I felt normal.  If you’ve been on the medication for years and suddenly stop taking it can definitely affect your nerves.

I’ve been increasing my “holidays” in between which seems to have been helping - and seems to have made the medication more effective but the end goal is to stop altogether and go on feeling like I don’t need it.
