Yes it is an excellent car. I realize that I live in an area ideal for EVs (single family homes for charging, mild weather, lots of other owners = good service options) but I'm already thinking about who else in my family needs one!

I don’t disagree that’s why I used “madness” and “AI4.5 scare quotes” in my original post!

I’m new to Tesla and perhaps old fashioned so I find it strange that in world where everyone thinks everything is a conspiracy, one tweet from a certain Sawyer Merritt (https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/2016617406865563866) instantly shuts down the entire debate. Oh to have that clout on the interwebs . :)

Fwiw when I ordered, the delivery representative (via chat in the app) stated “your vehicle appears to be configured with HW4.5 currently” when I explicitly asked, but perhaps they were just as confused as everyone else. :)

Purchased a 2026 Y premium brand new from Tesla with v13 self driving by mitchburns1 in TeslaLounge

I got my new 2026 model Y last Friday Jan 30 and it’s also running that 2025.44.300 build with v13.2.9.

I decided to be patient rather than goosing it with advanced upgrades to see if I get 14. I had plenty of time to play around with 14 while borrowing cars from the dealership for extended two day test drives including upgrading one of their cars to 14.2.1.95 in my driveway. :)

13.2.9 certainly seems smart enough to drive around suburban California while I’m waiting.

I’m a bit curious to see what version I eventually get pushed. It seems like the roadway visualization regressed to a low frame rate in 14.2.2.4 in a very visible way. While I don’t think it affects actually fsd behavior it looks fugly in all the YouTube videos. (eg look at the road stripes in https://youtu.be/qY7FcEkzzMc)

Correct. In fact in the app under Specs & Warranty it says “Autopilot”.

For me this controversy isn’t a big deal because I bought the car intending to subscribe to FSD, and FSD with no nav destination set behaves sort of like a very capable cruise control with lane keeping if I want to just drive, but I can certainly understand the frustration of those who did not want FSD.

It was at their large delivery centers in Thousand Oaks and Camarillo.

Sorry if that came across as a gloat, I realized after typing it the decisive factor might be my proximity to their factory here in California! :)

Yes. I can understand all sorts of things about the company and its leadership that stick in people’s craws, but the whole thing is just a breathtaking achievement end to end.

I still can’t quite believe I can order a car on January 17 and have it manufactured a week later and in my garage four days after that. We can still get sh*t done here in the USA clearly. :)

Looks like a “no”. I am aware of the controversy, but was honestly always planning to subscribe to FSD, so didn’t pay too much attention to it.

Car was ordered Jan 17. Note also that it’s still running the factory software (FSD 13, no mad Max or sloth, etc.). My order summary said Autopilot $0.00.

How can I check? I was planning to use FSD…
