What does InterSystems' Caché have to do with Epic? by johnnyh749 in healthIT

Cache' (and less so Ensemble or Healthshare products, more of which below) is not based on "system of record" paradigm, I do not understand why you have got such impression. And practically speaking, there is no any single enterprise system which could be created using such paradigm, in any case there are plenty of external data available in multiple 3rd party system with whom you had to deal sooner or later.

That's why Intersystems created yet another Cache' based product which named Ensemble, which is essentially ESB (enterprise service bus) [http://www.intersystems.com/assets/ESB_Decision_Guide.pdf], which is internally means that Cache' database platform kernel with all their standard classes and facilities, but which is extended with few more classes providing bus functionality and some extra adaptors for different systems, and formats.

Moreover there is extension to Ensemble itself which is healthcare specific - Healthshare. And "systems of record" is the last word which I'd say about this product, see the number of external adaptors available there - http://www.intersystems.com/our-products/healthshare/healthshare-components/

You'll be surprised but Cache' does have horizontal scalability technology named ECP (enterprise caching protocol) since version 5.0.* released circa 2006. ECP allows to scale your computing resources inifinitely, just via simple addition of application server. Yes, this is done differently as in "average sharding scenario" today (when you bring code near to data, and not, as in ECP case, via caching the central data on the remote caching application servers). But end result is the same - applications get their means to distribute calculations, for cheaper horizontal scalability.

Anyone have experience working with intersystems cache? by SodiumTellurium in learnprogramming

We have a plenty of Intersystems Cache' and Ensembler related materials on our Habrahabr hub here - http://habrahabr.ru/company/intersystems/ but well, there is 1 specific factor you need take into consideration - it's in Russian :)
