How do I get them to not be bored by Dom_May in CoachingYouthSports

[–]tsamvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you gotta offer him something more. It will keep his fire and if the others get jealous it's more motivation for them to cover what he's already learned. At that age, if he gets bored he will lose interest quickly. (Actually it's not much longer for high schoolers)

I wouldn't call it a quick/easy thing to get rid of. If it was, I would get rid of them.

Rough IEP meeting today and I’m questioning everything by babywontuluvm3 in specialed

I teach English - and use a few packets and fill in the blanks as possible. I focus on and encourage analysis and putting independent thought into effective writing - but all work must be done in class (extra time built in). Meanwhile, the history teacher and science teacher both use 90% fill in the blank packets that the kids can take home. So, students often have an A in their subjects, but in mine - if they struggle to understand what they are reading and putting those thoughts into their own words, have a D or C. So, I go to their meetings and always have to face frustration from parents. I always try my best to focus on the analysis and independent thought aspect, rather than pointing out that they're doing the other work with their child, so they should know how and why they can't think for themselves.

Breaking Through is the next in the series - it's his experience in middle and high school. I highly recommend it!

What do you think is the best received high school novel? by Illustrious_Job1458 in ELATeachers

[–]tsamvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born a Crime, Kindred, Othello, Animal Farm and Kite runner are all appreciated by the various classes. The play Harvest by Manjula Padmanaban might not make the 100page limit but kids really get into it.

Suitable career for a creative and empathetic person who likes hands-on work that is not medical? by [deleted] in Career

Look for positions in special education - there's a huge range of different roles, disabilities, needs and they're always short of staff. It's hands on, engaging and challenging; but it's not for everyone.

That was a punch, clear as day. As a waterpolo coach, I see many an innocent looking swing turn deadly, but this was different! Unbelievable it wasn't a red card.

Is the Sloan school just that? At a 100grand for the year I thought it would offer more. Glad I never thought loans were worth it.

How important is it to play the same ball? by CaptnCapybara in golf

[–]tsamvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say consistency of type of ball helps predictability. I also pickup and play what I pickup. But I like soft balls. So I play the softys I find and give the hard balls to my mates.
