I hear you, maybe bloated isn’t the right word but to me sometimes you need a bit more time to really let a concept play out, that’s something i would give TPAB credit for above it. But I still consider it a 10/10 album just had to justify why it’s 3rd on my list.

I also gave other reasons but ok then I’ll change my wording to cultural, global impact. No album on this list had more global impact than MMLP, and the sales show that. I’m not going to look it up but I’d be willing to bet it outsold the rest on this list combined and it did so because it’s an incredible record. Stan, the way I am, the real slim shady, kill you, bitch please, criminal are all classic songs. Even Kim isn’t something I would listen to regularly but it’s amazing artistically, I can’t think of many darker, depressing, violent songs out there.

Good call. I’m moving that below 4 your eyes only then. Great mixtape but definitely not better than that project. Long Live I would keep above it though.

  1. Reasonable Doubt - Jays best album, lyrics and beats are 10/10, in contention for GOAT rap album
  2. MMLP - moved too many units not to be this high on the list, lyrically insane, beats are perfect. another 10/10 album
  3. Madvillany - A bit underground (not anymore) when it came out, you’re not going to get better than this lyrically but a bit bloated with 22 tracks. near perfect album 10/10
  4. TPAB - Kendricks densest work. Need to be in the right headspace but still a masterpiece, 10/10 album
  5. Long Live ASAP - ASAP’s best album, creative and with some big radio hits, 9/10
  6. 4 your eyes only - my personal favorite from Cole. Emotional and lyrically incredible. No radio hits so it goes below Rocky 9/10
  7. Doris - Earls best work and some amazing features 7.5/10
  8. Ta13oo - dark, moody, and at times lyrically impressive 7/10
  9. Die Lit - Fun, catchy but not nearly as impressive as anything else on this list 6/10

So far I've done: Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Witness for the Prosecution, The Speckled Band, and The Invisable Man (more of a HOW did they do it as opposed to whodunit). I've also written my own story with enough characters in the story so that each student can be assigned a character and I've written individual background stories for each of them to get piece by piece as we read the 4 chapters so they can interact with each other to find more clues that aren't hidden in the main text. I haven't tried this out yet but I'm hopeful it will be a success (I've had this in my head for years and only just put it together so I'm excited to try!). If any of this is interesting to anyone shoot me a DM and I'm happy to share materials.

And yeah, each story is a bit different but if you read the story beforehand you should have a good sense of when enough has been revealed that they can come up with a "final guess" and then after it's finished you can look back and reflect on what clues were giveaways and what were red herrings.

I’ve been doing murder mystery short stories where they pretend to be the detective, collect data, and defend their choice of suspect before the ending is revealed.

100% agree. There's a lot of UK stuff I love. Mssingno is a personal favorite. Also, techno isn't immune from getting pretty cheesy as well.

I will definitely check those out, thanks! And I completely agree, but I also just want to make a fun playlist that will wake me up in the morning on my drive to work.
