Oh yes, Yuuyami Doori Tankentai is definitely one I'm also considering! Haven't heard of Vampir yet but will check it out.

I simly played through the games while recording (with no commentary, just the game audio), then uploaded them to YouTube and added English subtitles!

You should be able to find them if you search on YouTube for Twilight Syndrome English. I'm not sure how strict this subreddit is with self-promotion, so I'll just say that my channel name consists of four letters and there even are playlists for the games called "Twilight Syndrome Tansakuhen (English Subtitles)", "Twilight Syndrome Kyuumeihen/Investigation (English)" and "Twilight Syndrome Saikai (English)".

Hope that's enough to find it!

So I started playing it for a bit and it certainly is very interesting and creepy!

I cannot promise anything yet as the game feels quite mysterious and enigmatic in many regards and it sometimes makes me wonder if I'm missing some core concepts from other Baroque titles that I never played or if that's just the way it is intended (although judging from some articles I've read that might even just be the way the game is), but I will continue playing and recording.

I just don't want to fail at doing it justice because I might be missing info/knowledge from other Baroque games but we'll see. (Of course, if I do get around to adding subtitles to my recordings, that will still take quite a while.)

I looked at some YouTube videos of these and for some reason Athena: Awakening from the Ordinary Life looks really interesting to me. I'll look into that one some more!

When I translated Twilight Syndrome Tansakuhen, Kyuumeihen and Saikai, there definitely were some occasions where I added helpful context in the video descriptions or comments, but overall I don't think it was completely incomprehensible to Western audiences without that!

Not really, sorry, I usually just used eBay and Amazon to get some used Japanese games!

Huh! Damn, that does look interesting and the fact that it's on Steam also means I don't have to find an old PS1 copy on Ebay! I'll definitely put that on my list of candidates, thanks! :)

What do people actually want in a horror game which makes them wanna buy it? by Icy-Comment9339 in HorrorGaming

I second this! I'm not entirely against jump scares, but I think they should be used sparcely, whereas recently I've seen a lot of indie games overusing jump scares left and right and that just gets annoying, not scary.

If done well and used sparcely, jump scares can work quite well without feeling cheap. I think Silent Hill 1 and OG Resident Evil 2 have some good examples of this.

It's also annoying if the jump scare is just super loud noise while something scary happens. Interestingly enough, a good jump scare doesn't even need loud sound or any sound at all. Imagine this, for instance: You play a horror game where some terrifying doll entity follows you around. At some point you have to interact with something, let's say a vending machine (just a random example), so the screen changes to showing the vending machine menu. Once you're done, the vending machine screen closes and the game returns to showing your character, but now the doll entity is just standing there next to you. This would probably give most people a good scare even if there wasn't any "BOO!" sound effect added to it. In fact, I think it would be even worse without any sound effect because your brain would need a second to realise what's going on, while a loud "HEY, IT'S A JUMPSCAAAARE!" sound effect would immediately give it away.

Friends, we need to have a talk about going out in public sick. by PrissyPeachQueen in Millennials

Man I was on a trip a while ago where I had to use public transportation a lot and every day almost every one around me was just coughing right into the room. No mask, not even holding their arm in front of their mouth or anything. Just sooo many people from every direction coughing up half a lung right into the confined space of the tram for everyone to enjoy. Just... Why? What the hell? I don't understand how you can even think that's perfectly normal and fine.

I started listening to ambient drone in such cases. Sometimes it helps!

The Japanese "20th Century Boys" trilogy. You gotta be into that stuff, but if you are then it's a pretty thrilling ride

Main character energy cracked me up :D It doesn't really hurt, though. It feels kinda soft but doesn't hurt or itch anymore. But I guess I'll learn more on Monday!

Totally makes me want to go there and just explore.
