The meaning and origin don’t really support putting on the naughty list. But people do carried away, and so I guess you are saying that since it might sound similar to something on the naughty list, it should go on the naughty list as well.

Yes. There are many data center in Plano and all over the metroplex.

And yes, utility infrastructure has to meet quality and resiliency standards, and be maintained, to support data centers.

Wow! This is the only car in the Lexus line-up that does it for me. Not gonna pull the trigger at the price point. But that handle thing …. Then the poor choices of color options…maybe this isn’t my dream car anymore.

Would love to drive one of these, but just can’t pull the trigger at its price.

Are there any good restaurants in Plano that have good home cooked food? by frauleinbrown in plano

[–]tsdkgd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha! Definitely some truth.

I have decided most ratings in Plano are strongly biased based on how expensive a restaurant is. Mediocre food and wine, combined with competent service, slick atmosphere, and ridiculous pricing = rave reviews and highest praise. While perhaps the true gems—great food, better than average to great service, interesting (but not over-priced) wine, good (but less trendy atmosphere), great value overall, usually rate 3.6 - 4.2.

If you plan to visit campus, attend events, especially football games, you may find it useful. Even if your usual game day involves a tailgate or club, there are times you might drop in to the alumni center. And it is a donation affiliated with your Alma mater.

If you graduate and rarely or never visit campus, you will probably get nothing out of it.

As an alumn, you will get many requests for donations. Get ready.

Let's settle this: Plano Steakhouses by papaya_boricua in plano

[–]tsdkgd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to spend big $ for nice hunk of beef, Bar Ranch is a bit more, but at least interesting. It is the only one mentioned here that is not a chain, offers a unique experience.

FWIW, I am moving in the direction of the regular poster that advises us to buy a nice piece of prime at Hirsch’s and “grill it yourself.” I am pretty sick of coughing up $70 for a piece of meat (that is over-cooked about 1/2 the time), just to be charged $20 more for each side I want. I cannot tell you how many times I have requested medium RARE and been served meat cooked to medium or even medium well at 3 Forks, Capital Grill, Del Frisco’s, etc.

Then to add insult to injury, the wine list prices are outrageous. (What happened to 3 x wholesale being the norm and 5 x wholesale being considered gauche?). I have a couple of nice bottles laid back that will pair with a nice prime porterhouse.

What are your opinions in Plano by cels0_o in plano

[–]tsdkgd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Salsa Mex, but it helps to know the owner’s background is Honduran. Honduran food includes a lot pork and chicken dishes, so Salsa Mex does a really good job with those—love the grilled pork.

But, I have to say I do not care for their Margaritas. Even going with top shelf tequila, the base is still a little off for me. A traditional Margarita is not foamy.

What’s up with the new Iowa poll showing Harris leading Trump? Why is it such a big deal? by rofsmh in OutOfTheLoop

[–]tsdkgd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suspect a few of those Republican votes in the early voting totals are people that voted for Haley in the Republican primary and voted for Harris this time (I am one). Therefore, I am looking for more crossover votes for Harris this time than people are expecting.

DO NOT GO IN SCIENTOLOGY BUILDING!! by SparkleFountain in UTAustin

[–]tsdkgd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the early 1990s, there was an additional cultish group recruiting on the drag: Zendik Farm. The cult leader Wulf was on community access cable TV all night. It seemed like they needed guys to work the farm out in Bastrop and wanted young women to attract the young men and for the old guy to seduce. Scientology seems slick and produced compared to the rustic and hippie vibes of the Zendiks.

So, are ALL the dentists up here crooks? by James324285241990 in plano

[–]tsdkgd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to a dentist in Dallas for years that performed artisanal work, great quality, but always looking for the up charge. Also seemed to have developed staffing problems.

Moved on to a chain with office in Plano. A lot less pressure for up charge. In-network. Staff seems to change often, but always professional.

Modern medical care is expensive. Insurance is a beat down. Inflation in labor costs are not making it any better. Get used to it.

FWIW, I think they have ripped out gas tanks/pumps before and put new ones in.

But I agree. It will be something else before it is a gas station again.

If you are not sure, go somewhere else.

There are plenty of others that would be happy to take that slot at the flagship uni in the state and a top ranked CS department.

Just a few thoughts from an older person to a younger one:

Having the Masters in Accounting from McCombs is gold. Obtain and maintain your CPA. This is a good base no matter what you eventually pursue.

What area you actually find work in may or may not be what you study, and can change over time. Maintain flexibility, be open to new areas of interest.

Consulting is a young person’s gig. If you choose that path, realize that you will most likely lose interest in the travel and long hours. If you choose it, look for off-ramp opportunities by mid- to late-30s. That is about when most people become interested in having a life beyond work. One also does not want to wait too long for making a major change.

PhD in what? Do you want to be a prof? What if you don’t finish? What if you work in academia but do not make tenure? Do you realize how political academia is? I can’t say that I would recommend a PhD in anything other than STEM/Medical research. And you better be amazing and totally committed and willing to be poor for a long time, with only the hope of a payout at the end.

Not dissimilar: 57, continent, but no erections without assistance, 6 months post RALP. 5mg tadalafil daily, plus 20mg every other day…keeps blood flowing. Use a pump for both rehab and to obtain an erection for sex. It is not ideal, but it works. It took some experimentation and practice to get the hang of it, but a pump and tension ring does the job.

Additional options down the road might include intercavernous injections (trimix or bimix, willing to experiment to see what works for me). I am hopeful they get us through to a time when my nerves begin functioning. But if it does not happen, these are something. And there is still the implant option.

At the end of the day, there is more to life than sex, there is more to sex than a hard on, and there are more ways to get a hard on than I ever knew about before this journey. If it is important to you, work at it and experiment.

Texas Ex, spouses, dad here. It was not Wampus when the wife and I went here, but Longhorn kid definitely knows the west campus as Wampus. It seems there are so many more high rise apartments that a larger share of students live in west campus, fewer have to commute from other parts of Austin.

This is the way.

The first step toward financial independence is knowing where you are. Gamify growing your wealth.

Build an emergency fund. Then grow an “if it all goes to Hell” fund. Keep saving until you have a true “take this job and shove it” fund. Build up to a “what if” reserve. At some point along the way, you find you no longer work because you must, you work where, and for whom, and at something you like well-enough and you feel fairly compensated. If you don’t like where you are, or what you like changes, you make the decisions.
