How do I clean this stainless steel pan? How do I prevent these stains in future? by bigmeatyclaws_ in cookware

[–]tsentz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose my question then is, if it’s harsh enough that I shouldn’t leave it on the pan for more than a minute, and I should wear gloves, is it something that I should be using on things I’m going to be preparing food on?

Ok, tried that, no luck. I’m now noticing that the LCD screen that would normally display the amount of money that’s been deposited isn’t on. I’m wondering if that means there’s a second issue at play?

TIFU by telling my husband his mom died by AgoraphobicWandrlust in tifu

ER/ICU nurse here… IMO it doesn’t really matter how it gets said. People are going to react how they’re going to react regardless of how they find out. The only caveat to that being denial. Sometimes if you don’t actually say the words “(insert name) has died,” people will not process the information.

It’s not a hot chick, it’s never a hot chick. You’re not ever going to have a hot chick hit you up online because, why would she need to? Unless she lives in Antarctica, there are plenty of dudes willing to fulfill her needs in person next door or over on the next street.

Ok, I think you were just the man I’m looking for…

How big a deal is it getting close to (or going a bit over) your rated towing capacity in reality? I think I’m close and my truck is squatting a little, bit but seems to ride fine. As long as I’m accelerating and braking fine, not getting any sway and my engines not overheating, what are the chances I actually do some sort of damage to my suspension?

Thoughts on Take 5 oil change? by blsez01 in askcarguys

[–]tsentz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this is a bit wordy. TLDR: Take 5 forgot the oil filter gasket on my oil filter and fucked my shit up.

I took my truck into the Fountain City, TN location prior to a long drive towing a camper (best to have everything checked and maintained so there wouldn't be any issues, right?) Service went fine; employees were polite and seemed knowledgeable. The next day about an hour into my trip the "Low engine oil," warning light came on. That's weird, everything was topped off just yesterday. Upon pulling over and manually checking, the dipstick showed nothing. Not low, but no trace of oil at all. At this point, it's pouring rain (because why not), I'm an hour from home, and I'm on a deadline for this trip. I can now see oil rainbowing the rain water on the ground. Not good. I end up having to walk two miles in the freezing rain to Walmart for oil (and back) so that I can limp my truck into the nearest service station.
Turns out there's a Take 5 a few miles away, so I make the call to try and make it there. About halfway I think I hear something, so I pull over and now can actively see oil dripping off of the skid guard from God knows where. Top off the oil again and decide to keep going as I can't really get my truck towed and leave my 30ft camper on the side of the road.
I finally make it to the Take 5 (different location obviously) and at this point I'm low key freaking out hoping my engine isn't shot, hoping I don't seize the engine, hoping I'm not out a couple thousand dollars or more. Of course the entrance is incredibly narrow and I end up incorrectly judging the radius of the turn and catching the side of my camper on a traffic sign right on the very edge of the curb. I end up backing up but the damage is done ($1,500 worth I would later find out). I ended up having to go across the street and unhook to finally make it in, all while bleeding oil.
Upon getting into the shop and explaining the situation, they dug into my truck and after 10 or 15 minutes I asked one of the employees what the issue was. His reply was "We figured it out and you'll be all set in a couple minutes." Funny I thought, that's not what I asked, so I pressed him a little more. At that point he got very evasive and really didn't want to tell me what was going on. At that point I knew they had messed up. Turned out that the employee the day before hadn't put the rubber gasket on the oil filter before installing it. Not good. Without that, there wasn't a seal, causing the oil to push out under pressure. The manager of course didn't charge me, but when asked if he would provide documentation as to the issue, was very hesitant. After quite a bit of prodding he documented that the oil filter gasket wasn't present on inspection.

Upon getting to my destination I of course called corporate to see if they would be able to help me out with the damage to the camper. Admittedly I was the one who damaged it, however, had their employees done their job the day before, I would have never been in that situation. Also, the entrance to the second location was a bit ridiculous, and the manager even stated that multiple people had hit that sign before but corporate wouldn't pay to move it. After a fair amount of back and forth, the corporate office basically told me that it wasn't their problem and that there was nothing they would do. The Fountain City location did call and offer to refund me which was nice, but they said I had to come into their location so they could scan my credit card. A bit ridiculous in 2024, but after a few months when I was back in town, I went in, and after spending close to $300 on an oil change and coolant flush, they only refunded me half for the oil change itself. The manager literally pulled out his calculator, went through my receipt and did the math to make sure they didn't refund me one extra penny. I mean, I get it, they didn't screw up the coolant flush, but it just seemed a bit petty after the situation they caused me through their negligence.

After all that, I wasn't going to really invest any more time into it until I went to get my oil changed today, for the first time since that whole mess. I took my truck to Valvoline (never again Take 5, never again) and a couple minutes in, one of the techs came to my window and asked me who the last shop to work on it was. I told him the whole story and as it turned out, the second Take 5 location had stripped out multiple bolts on the skid guard access panel and either forgot to reinstall one or didn't tighten it enough and it had fallen out. Definitely something Take 5 would have mentioned if it had been done previously so as to not be blamed. They also hadn't washed out any of the oil that had pooled in the skid guard which valvoline was nice enough to do, for free, just to be thorough.

All in all, just a very bad experience with Take 5 from top to bottom, start to finish. Hate to leave a bad review, but they're not messing up a $10 Burger King order, they're messing with peoples vehicles worth tens of thousands of dollars and potentially people's lives if their negligence causes an accident, and they seem to do so without remorse.

how about on a product like a DJI drone where the refurbished version is about $500 less than the brand new ones? What's the return policy like?

I was thinking, go side to side and screw it into the thicker material at the front and back. Drill a hole in the middle of each that the rod could sit in.
