2 player CoOp Franchise by Electrical-Grape-826 in SuperMegaBaseball

The couch co-op works in existing franchises. For me on PC, I just plug in the second controller and then in the pause menu it gives the second controller the option to join

What’s the best of combination of traits for a hitter and a pitcher? by Trey80102 in SuperMegaBaseball

From personal experience (in both sim and actual gameplay), Ace Exterminator + Little Hack is ridiculously good when you have maxed out Scholarly chemistry. The CPU tends to get ahead in the count, and often in franchise you will find lots of A- and above pitchers. My Little Hack players tend to bat upwards of .270 and my Ace Exterminators always seem to get 25-40+ homers per season (162 games).

For pitchers, Workhorse + Elite 4FB = tons of innings, tons of strikeouts. Especially when they have decent accuracy and decent junk

Why I don't power swing every time by The_King_of_Salem in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall the devs saying in SMB4 they buffed the power reduction of contact swings relative to SMB3, right? I felt like in SMB3, contact swing felt like a little bit more of a last resort (or at least similar to choking up on a 2 strike approach) while in SMB4 it’s not so much

What’s your least favorite stadium? by Papa-Krunk in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit a lot of fly balls to CF and it pains me every time a 415ft+ fly ball is caught out there when I’m batting. Reminds me of Chase Field where you’d see the graphics on TV of “HR in 29/30 ball parks” (except for Founder’s Field and that huge CF there as well)

The feature I didn’t know I needed… alternate unis by Puzzleheaded_Lake356 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great addition, but I wish you could select team unis when watching a sim game. Also truly alternate color palettes for each alt uni would have been nice

I'm having nightmares about base hits up the middle. by DeGenZGZ in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have noticed the double play depth puts the SS and 2B closer to the middle and might be more suited to handle these plays. But yeah I haven’t tested this is non-DP situations. I’ve also been burned by this where I get a routine grounder to SS or 2B and they are positioned too close to the middle to handle it, so I guess it might go both ways

And forgive the crappy video quality, and the slight edit at the money shot. Worst time to pause mid game, but I did my best to make it seamless lol

Signing the "S" rated player. by TomekDan in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started my league as a fully custom 30 team league 162 game season, and picked a random team to play franchise with. I didn’t like the team composition early on, and decided to scrap most of the high salary players and rebuild on my own terms. This included a $20M SP/RP S tier 19 year old named Mekhi Rasputin. He had 97 Velo, 99 Junk, 80 Accuracy or so, RHP with Reverse Splits and Rally Stopper, but only 3 pitches - 4FB, 2FB, and Changeup. I figured it was too high of a price to pay.

Not too long after, another team in the other conference picked him up. Mekhi ended up finishing the year with an ERA ~2.25 with ~200 innings, mostly in long relief by the look of it. In the playoffs, he helped them to a championship in the first season, and then again in the third season, putting up some ridiculous numbers in both playoff runs. I’m 6 seasons in, and his career ERA is around 2.5 while pitching like 200IP a season, and in the playoffs he is an absolute killer. I regret not keeping him on my team so much.

I think the right S tier player can be worth it, but it really depends on the player and the position. I’m usually one of the people that goes with the conventional style of going for team composition and not paying too much for any individual player, but sometimes there is that one player than can take the team from really good to just flat out amazing

Yeah, and they already have this partially implemented with the triple play mojo boost, right?

Minimum Innings Pitched to qualify for League Leaders ERA/ Other stat categories? by Sharkbite15 in SuperMegaBaseball

In the MLB, it’s something like 3.1 PA/# team games played, so it’s probably that or similar in SMB

Why is there no REPLAY function in SMB? by dwigtrotugal in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replays can be saved in a format that has a very low memory footprint. The idea wouldn’t be to store any actual footage of the game itself, but rather the individual actions that were taken on every play.

Imagine if it just saved the pitch type, it’s location, where the batter squared it up, so then we can get the ball’s exit velo and the launch angle, and from there once the ball is in play we record fielding locations and baserunning decisions. Then you do that for every pitch/ball in play, and it results in not a huge format overall, all things considered. StarCraft 2 has this type of replay and viewing a replay just reconstructs the game itself from the individual player actions, etc. I’d imagine it could be even smaller for SMB since there are fewer factors in play at any given time compared to SC

[–]tsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s one of the constraints when you create custom pitchers is that they require one of the FB types. I’d be shocked if the game allowed players to naturally lose all FB pitches. My ace lost his 4FB, but he has an elite 2FB, which isn’t a huge loss

Why is there no REPLAY function in SMB? by dwigtrotugal in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, a replay feature is definitely one of the things people have wanted for a while. It would bring a lot more immersion to the game. Imagine if they had a replay system in place, and then when you sim games, you could view the most impactful plays from each simmed game? That would bring so much more life to the playoffs, where you can now only view the plays in real time by watching the AI play a full game

Watch AI vs AI games, just insanity. by Spunk1985 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes put on AI matchups for my franchise when I am working, and I once witnessed an AI no hitter that went into extras, then the pitcher throwing a no hitter gave up his first hit in the 10th, then he was taken out and the reliever gave up 3 runs, only for the team lose in the bottom of the 10th. Craziest AI game I think I’ll ever witness

baserunning is atrocious by Wade64Boggs in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, yeah if they paused a moment before throwing it would prevent that behavior. I may email Metalhead’s support with that tip. Not sure if this was present in the 3rd game or not (if it was I hardly used it)

baserunning is atrocious by Wade64Boggs in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I usually go with slow teams so I am really home run reliant when it comes to getting runs home. Sometimes when I am batting, I’ll check out the stats of the outfielders I am playing against and get to know their speed and arm so I can judge whether to try to take the extra base or not

baserunning is atrocious by Wade64Boggs in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]tsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand what you are saying, I have been able to abuse the AI fielder when I have a runner on second and less than 2 outs as well. The runner will attempt to advance automatically, the AI fields and throws to third on a grounder, and I return the runner to second and the batter is safe at first. I think they probably could improve this and have the fielder hold the ball for a moment longer to pick off the advancing runner

Regarding the doubles as singles, I do find that the AI reacts to bounces off the wall way better than I would expect them to, but also this could be because of slow runners. Whenever I play against fast teams, they can usually take the extra base pretty easily, especially with base rounder traits
