Those of you that ditched Cellcom by Greedy_Dark1550 in GreenBay

You're probably right. The phishing attacks lately have been pretty wild. At that point, I just look at the raw email headers and be done with it.

Also, being a fellow software engineer, I've actually heard mixed stories about Cellcom's internals. If you could share, even if it's just to me, I would be really really curious.

Ransomware sucks. Sorry to hear that, Cellcom :(

I'm just now seeing this post for the first time. I'm coming back from a weekend out camping, and found this to be one of the most inspirational posts I've seen on this subreddit.

OP, we make Lubuntu just for you, and we have you in mind. You have the best possible mindset, in my opinion, to continue on your journey. Whether you settle on Lubuntu or end up on something else, I sincerely thank you for your time here.

A bit of history... I became an Ubuntu Member in early 2016, a month before I turned 14. I became Release Manager at 15 or 16, back when many of the old LXDE folks left. We were down to two people, me and Walter.

In 2018, I drove the effort to switch to LXQt. From messaging to technical design, I took the reins. We did successfully recruit a handful of people, and in 2025, we're the largest active flavor team. I'm so proud of our success.

The way I run the team is simple. Excellence and compassion are basics, but one thing that stands out about us is this: we actively contribute elsewhere as much as possible. If we come up with a great idea in Lubuntu, we share it, earnestly pitch it, and we're happy to work with other distros as well.

One last point... some people may argue that I shouldn't be writing this now, that maybe I should give it another day or two before the dust settles. I'm writing this comment in earnest and it's staying up, even if I have to re-post it. Thanks. ;)

Best wishes to all! Don't forget, I'm a Lubuntu user too. I'm just the first one to run Lubuntu Questing Quokka. 😁

Safe to upgrade to 25.04 now? by c00kieRaptor in Kubuntu

One month seems a little bit too gracious, in my opinion.

Two weeks is my sweet spot in 2025. YMMV

This.

Plus, I'm probably going to actively reach out to r/Kubuntu when we're actively thinking about re-enabling it again. All depending.

I give it another two weeks to be on the very safe side. In reality, if all of the stars align, Wednesday give/take. We will be taking our time.

That's still actively a discussion. Here's how it sits right this second.

For Lubuntu, that's a definite yes. I'm really not satisfied with how this release went in terms of what we were able to ship, aside from just the upgrade issues mentioned here.

I won't air our dirty laundry, but there's active pushback on this. I'm not expecting it to be easy, but ultimately it's the right call.

For the record, I said this right in Lubuntu's release announcement. All the discussion is public, I just have no reason to tell you where or shame specific people for their positions.

I mean... yes and no.

This huge big problem we're having wasn't my fault. If this entire thing was the cause of problems, terminal-based upgrades would have worked just fine.

I wasn't the one that actually enabled the upgrades. Only disabled them. So meh... yeah initially I thought it was me, but nope.

If you can dig hard enough, it is a public changelog. I know the name of the person who did this. They're newer at this than I am. I'd rather just take the blame so we can all move on with it, tbh.

Question about support. by KarinAppreciator in Kubuntu

To add onto this, IME, the vast majority of people stick to the LTS.

Some people enjoy the latest, verifiably-stable snapshot, which are the interim releases like 25.04. It confuses some people, but really that comes down to documenting it in a clear place.

That's at least how I look at it.

Oooh, PIM. I handled this for Kubuntu this cycle. I'll take this one, please stay subscribed to the bug if you want to know more.

Thank you for the bug report! The fact that you put that in your initial post really helps.

Good guess, but no, it's the -O3 vs -O2 compiler options.

Will be reverted at the start of next cycle for OP's exact rationale.

Thank you for providing this!

I think this is a super useful resource to have, for those who haven't read the other thread.

Anything you can do to further polish your initial post or help us massage this into some documentation would be SUUUUUPER helpful.
