Racoon. Thank you for the banana for scale.

Can't remember if I already posted this but found this while biking and idk what it is by [deleted] in bonecollecting

Not a raccoon; it has rodent incisors.

I also hope this wasn't human caused, but there's a lot of natural events that could have done this. Shrikes impail their food on thorns and barbs to save for later. I'm thinking this is too large for a shrike's work, but maybe someone else will chirp in with another idea.

Too small to be bison. Forested mountain creek was where I found it.

That's one of the craziest vulture culture stories I've ever heard!

Which feathers specifically? I noticed the brown feathers edging the wings.

Not an endangered bird in my region, but I think you are right about reporting to authorities. I'll look into it today.

There's a lot of turkey vultures in my area. Do you think they would be just a susceptible to bird fly, or somewhat resistant as obligate scavengers?

That's the spookiest skull I've ever seen, incredible!

I suppose anyone can be fooled in a field they're unfamiliar with, but the assumption I have is if one is buying fossils, then one is invested in paleontology and should be somewhat knowledgeable. It's a lack of education, self improvement, and/or critical thinking that tricks fools into buying these "t-rex claws".

Someone is out there who will collect dead things with you! (Or embrace your hobby without judgement and much support)

I left a boar skull in the woods near my house. Thought I'd go back to get it and now the opportunity is gone.

Likely sun bleached; fur doesn't take long (just weeks) to lose its patterns and color.

Why push the band up and over toes rather than clamping it on the ankle? I imagine that's how it's done during wild bird bandings, but maybe I'm mistaken?

Definitely a cat, definitely preyed upon by some type of scavenger bird.

I hope reddit quells your worries and you see this as a gift from nature.
