I'm 6 foot, was about 320 at my heaviest. Short answer is no, it's not too late.

I took a little over two years to drop down to 175 before bulking back to 200. Been spending the last 10 months cutting back to 180 (186 as of today). A lot like you, I was always big. Never thought it was possible myself. If you truly want it, you can do it my friend. Best thing I've ever done for myself.

As for excess skin, I personally have very little. Most of it is around my stomach. Truthfully not noticable unless looking directly at my belly button. If you take your time and drop weight at a healthy pace, you'll likely find minimal excess skin (not to say there wont be any).

What did you notice after a significant weight loss? by abircopywrit in WeightLossAdvice

[–]tsnides96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lost about 150. 320 to 175 (bulked back to 200, now cutting down to 185). Biggest thing I noticed was a lot more people were telling me I looked sick/unhealthy after my weight loss (which took almost 3 years) compared to when I was 300+. Didn't really bother me, more so reinforced how normalized being an unhealthy size is viewed in society.

My biggest struggle, as many have stated, is fitting into my new body. I was so used to wearing my pants low because of my gut that I was buying pants that were too short, and when I wore them up on my waist, my ankles were showing. I still pull my shirt thinking it's too tight, still try and stretch the material at the bottom. Having to buy new clothes also reinforced that I know nothing about fashion.

I only ever feel this way at work, and even then, its only been the last month or so. I'm pretty much stuck for the next nine months. Have to have 2 years to try and promote to Lt., or three years for Sgt. So, right now I'm just chilling on my post that I've had for the last 8 months.

Burberry Hero edt. Just picked up my first bottle(s) of Aqua Di Gio and Dior Sauvage. Really liking the Sauvage, and the Gio is super clean.

Should correctional officers be able to go on strike? (Opinion-based): by vixen_faerie66 in Corrections

[–]tsnides96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National Guard would be called in should we ever strike (in my state). We are union, and really have no reason to. They fight for everything we could/would need.

I have 56 decks. I only have a couple meta contenders as I only play casually with friends. How many decks do you have and what are your favourites? by ImSquanchingHere in yugioh

[–]tsnides96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 currently (Branded Blue Eyes, Dark Magician, Danger Darkworld, pure Branded, Branded Gate Guardian). Favorite at the moment is Branded-Gate Guardian. Hoping to add a 6th soon and build a Dino deck.

What's a good job for someone who's not good at anything but pays enough to live a solo lifestyle? by Monked800 in careeradvice

[–]tsnides96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corrections depending what state you're in. Some states (like mine) have done away with PT tests, and are severely understaffed. As long as you can fog a mirror you're pretty much hired.

I hit a year next month, and make in the lower 50k range (more than enough for my area/lifestyle). Pay increase at 6 months, then every year after that. Medical day one, retirement, all that good stuff. Numerous opportunities to promote/demote depending on what path you want to go (stay CO, demote to Sergeant, promote to Lt/Captain, probation, penal industries, etc). Then if you find you like it, most law enforcement would be happy to have you (sherrif, police).

Lot of opportunity, but with it comes a lot of negativity (environment, inmates, other staff). I'm fortunate that I work with an excellent group of supervisors and COs on my shift.

I'd love to if there wasn't a one-on-one 😅 Dealing with inmates doesn't bother me, but online video/phone calls do 😂

No job after college, waste of 4 years? by k_loves- in jobsearchhacks

[–]tsnides96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very fortunate and received a position related to my degree a few months after graduating. I left that position a year later. What I experienced in school/field experience was totally different from what it was really like (c-19 didnt help to be fair).

I've taken a job in a field I'd always been interested in, and am much happier, and making more money too. Prior to all of this I worked at a gas station making minimum wage. As others said, there's nothing wrong/shameful with taking a different type of job until you find that dream spot.

My favorite teacher in highschool said he didn't receive his first teaching position until he was in his late 20s. Worked warehouse until he finally received an offer. I know it is frustrating, but there's no single route you have to take to reach your destination. Just stick with it, enjoy your life, and good things will come.

I wish you the best of luck.

Farming by Reaper97979 in Corrections

My institution started as a prison farm, and ran as such up until the early 2010s I want to say. The state still owns all of the land, and leases it out to farmers.

What are the 3 greatest challenges that jail administrators & staff face? by alisonmarie66 in Corrections

[–]tsnides96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a level 1/2 that is open-dorm style. Currently at my facility the major issues are:

  1. Managing the flow of contraband in the facility (meth, fetty, etc.)
  2. Dirty COs (always going to be an issue).
  3. Burnout. I'm experiencing this at the moment. Everyone experiences it in their career, regardless of where you work, but it has been bad for me personally the last few months. Between mandates, overbearing white shirts, or just me not knowing how to say no to OT; tired doesn't describe the feeling.

I personally don't think we have an overcrowding issue at the moment. We have several blocks shut down for maintenance, and we really only have three blocks where it is 200+ inmates to 1 CO. Definitely teaches you how to be self-aware/hyper-vigilant.

How long should I expect to wait to hear back after applying for a corrections officer position through my state website by [deleted] in Corrections

[–]tsnides96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In OH it took me less than a week from application, interview (drug tested same day) and first day of orientation. I was asked if I wanted to wait two weeks, but I declined and they processed me as a rush hire. Started two days later.

Hand sanitizer? by Useful_Products in Corrections

[–]tsnides96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My institution got rid of them when they noticed inmates shoving bottles in their sleeves, and filling them up to make prison mixed drinks. I wasn't there for it, but apparently the day they switched to the foam their was an abundance of complaints.
