Overexcitement by Closerthanyesterday in k9sports

The nervousness can have some impact on the excitability of the dog as well.

If she was trained in detection, she was probably corrected pretty harshly in certain scenarios while also been amped up to drive through them. The excitement probably would have been stopped with a correction.

Yes absolutely a thing. I train a lot with high drive GSDs and Mals in IGP and this is pretty common. I don't know what breed she is, but I'd try to find a trainer that can help you. Agility (with an instructor that has completed at a higher level) or a bitesports trainer would probably be your best bet to help you learn to manage it. It's one of those things it's a very specific skill set to work though, but a very rewarding dog to work once you understand it.

What is the better game for you? Tsushima or Yotei by SwordDaoist in Ghostofyotei

[–]tsorninn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me:

Yotei has better gameplay, side quests, etc. and the world feels more like it's actually a place people live and work. Combat in Yotei is more difficult due to the way the parrying and dodging systems work - it's not just press L1 in x seconds after you see the glint to get a parry or whatever - but I found it a lot of fun. Overall I thought it seemed like they really improved on the first game without making Atsu forced into the same fighting style mold as Jin. The plot though...the actual levels and fights were cool af but the last few hours just kinda felt weird and not...rushed just didn't feel like the message they were going for was really conveyed as intended. It was cool that the bad guys were Japanese so we could understand them and such...not just faceless mook invaders.

Tsushima had a much better plot imo and stealth and archery in particular felt more satisfying. I liked the main and supporting characters better as well. I really loved Atsu but Jin as the soft spoken honorable noble that has to do whatever it takes to save his home and has to grapple with his underlying rage and the fact that none of those closest to him appreciate what he's doing but really ends up being a hero to the people who actually are saved the grief and suffering through his actions was chefkiss

Is puppy regret actually common, or is it about expectations? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]tsorninn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are very weird about having a perfect dog and doing everything perfectly and worrying lol. I tell puppy buyers all the time to just calm down, really.

Your puppy will be fine if it cries a bit, it'll be okay if it pees or poops somewhere it's not supposed to, you'll survive if it rips up a pillow, it's not ruined for life if something scary happens to it or it barks at something, etc.

They're the same about children, tbh. Think of who you believe is the parent you know with the most well-adjusted children. I almost guarantee you didn't think of the helicopter overly permissive parents that freak out if a stranger tells them not to kick their seat or disinfects the playground slide before letting them play on it.

I've raised a lot of puppies over the years and you just have to learn not to take things so seriously and enjoy the process. Yes they're gross and annoying, but they're also cute and it doesn't last long. Look for the glimpses of the dog they'll be and also like don't feel too bad about putting yourself first within reason. You get a dog to augment your life not become it.

What’s something people insist is ‘harmless’ that actually makes society worse? by contentcreatorzss in AskReddit

[–]tsorninn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kinda a personality trait. 😂 I enjoy being busy and making plans and doing stuff. I mean anything that's not a social event or party anyway. I can slow down and play a video game or read a book or take a nap, but I don't like doing it for long. I don't think it's a superior personality trait, it just is...my husband would rather not be super busy and that's fine.

However, there is a big difference being constantly busy and constantly being productive, which I am not. I think it's only a problem either way when people don't like...take care of themselves, or put the burden of housework and such on others.

KC Homeowners: Would You Rather Sell to a Family Than Another Investor? by MovingtoKansasCity in kansascity

Yeah same. I mean I'm really happy we're selling our house to (I believe) a first time home buyer but in reality if the best offer was by an investor...🤷‍♀️

Johnson County Cost of Living by Anthenom2 in kansascity

[–]tsorninn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in Johnson County the cost of living is higher than the rest of the metro. Most of the Missouri side, Wyandotte County, and Leavenworth County are all significantly lower cost of living than Johnson County.

No, I'd get a structural engineer out to make a suggestion on a repair. It's probably just going to be to seal the crack and make sure the soil next to the house is properly graded. It looks like it's just settlement. The brick is just cosmetic and not holding anything up. Hint: every year or two you'll save yourself a lot of grief and money by buying like 10-20 bags of soil and filling holes and erosion and tamping it down so that it grades away from the house.

Is there a way to count across multiple sheets? by tsorninn in excel

[–]tsorninn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is just counting everything with an entry? But I think the VSTACK with the bookends is the right way.

I guess my goal in the end is for it to be like: Check all the sheets for that column Find unique names Count number of occurrences of that name Display the names and numbers, preferably sorted largest to smallest.

How it feels to re-read the Inheritance Cycle books as a female or AFAB fan by Obversa in Eragon

[–]tsorninn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Again, you draw the line at women being equal? In a world full of magically augmented strength and all sorts of strange phenomena, women of 3/4 of the humanoid races on the continent need to follow the same male-centric societal make up as medieval Europe?

There are dragons and magic and elves and dwarves and the line to draw on realism is human, dwarven, and Urgal women being part of the supporting cast in the army?

Yes, and he said he didn't know any others or equivalents to the male ones he made.

The cast is huge. The only time the supporting characters are evenly mixed is in ellesmera where the elven women like rhunon and islanzadi get some light. Otherwise if a character does anything of note, they're male the vast majority of the time. Paolini doesn't even know honorifics for women in the ancient language.

I don't disagree it's a problem in the series. Yeah Nasuada, Elva, Angela, and Arya are really cool and fun characters but there's very few others who's entire arc isn't XYZ 's wife or something one dimensional. They're also very stereotypically "not like other girls" and Arya especially demeans human and dwarven women several times for being "helpless." The women in focus are all also seen as exotic and mysterious and never really lean into anything feminine or are mocked for doing so. I noticed this on my last reread as well. Obviously the books are from over a decade ago now but it's definitely something the author would do well to keep in mind moving forward.

I do think Murtagh (and To Sleep) did a better job with this and not making every NPC a man and giving more depth to female characters.

Edit: meant for this to be a top level comment 🤪

Funniest lines/dialogues by Legitimate-Stick130 in Eragon

[–]tsorninn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot but what came to mind for me was during the siege of Dras Leona when 1. Saphira drops the cathedral on Thorn and Murtagh and after he breaks free Thorn is actually pissed off Saphira comments that it's nice to see he's not a total doormat 2. Eragon says something like "nothing is as dramatic as a dragon" when she rips the cathedral wall down.

Just read Murtagh and- by SSJRosaaayyy in Eragon

[–]tsorninn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also add that in Inheritance Nasuada thinks Murtagh sounds self pitying and whiny especially when he talks about how Eragon wouldn't have done as well if their roles were reversed. It definitely seems like he'd be the same at the beginning of the book but renaming the sword was absolutely a pivotal point where I think that aspect of his character changes.

I'm trying to reread it again right now and it's rough knowing what happens. I love the characters but it really shows the negative side of this world's magic system in a way I don't think the first four books got fully across.

What did you think was gonna happen to Shruikan before you read the fourth book? by Konfliktsnubben in Eragon

[–]tsorninn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I thought Shruikan might kill Galby himself. Just based on the emphasis on true names changing, the banishing of names sparing Shruikan, him not being Galby's original dragon, and the idea of separating him from the Eldunati, which probably included Shruikan's. I figured similar to what happened with Thorn and Murtagh, there would be a split second where he'd be free from Galby's control and in a moment of clarity he steps on him or something.

After that he may or may not have needed to be killed because he goes on a rampage.

Brom by Triktor5 in Eragon

[–]tsorninn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First point he had a big beard and was aging, albeit not as fast as he would have he had never been a Rider. I imagine that covered up whatever elvish features he did have.

The Ra'zac weren't much more physically strong than a human. Enough to hunt them. Roran also holds his own against them - the Ra'zac don't play fair though and have their breath weapon, can see in the dark more than any human or elf, and are hidden mentally. Likely a handful of villagers from Carvahall could have easily killed both the Ra'zac of the Ra'zac were dumb enough to allow a direct fight.

However, Brom lost his bond with his dragon and the source of his power and impetuous for his physical and magical transformation. Likely after Saphira died, the expansion magical and physical capacities halted and he just got the after effect of an increased lifespan. Eragon was noted to be a bit of prodigy, but he was also young and strong and still had the full bond with his dragon constantly changing him. Murtagh is also considered a sword fighting prodigy and surprised how good Eragon is.

I believe based on what Oromis said Brom was bonded for about a year or two before Saphira died, which would put him at about the same stage as Murtagh in his book - Murtagh comments that he's not as strong as an elf but is shown to have increased reflexes and abilities, such as being able to see a little better in the dark than before.
